I remember when I was a kid in school. I had a teacher that realized that I was a visual learner. So when the class was having to read " The Quiet Man " she made me watch it. Then do my written report on the subject. I loved it from the first time I saw it. I have watched it many many times now. But still won't forget that first time. What a movie.
These photos seem to reflect a chemistry among the cast and crew of the best cast film I have ever seen. From the special bond between Wayne and O'Hara, to the smallest extra role, each person, dog or sheep on screen fit his/her role perfectly. Still my favorite film of all time.

My favorite John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara movie. They starred in several westerns, all of which I have, and they made a fantastic screen couple... there was chemistry between them on the screen and they both knew it. So did the audience. Great movie, great actors and actresses, unforgettable.
@@degsbabe It would have been more believable if John Ford had succeeded in making the movie ten years earlier, but circumstances prevented that. A younger John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara and the remaining cast would have made Wayne's character more believable as an ex boxer who recently left the ring. But I'm grateful that Ford finally got the chance to make the movie and it turned out to be a classic.

This is a film I've watched for more than forty times. And unbeknownst to a lot of people, Maureen O'Hara was and still is my favorite ladies in my life. Such a beautiful, strong lady who loved Ireland and all that it gave her. The Quiet Man will live on...

Great film. Do visit Cong near Galway, High St looks the same, good museums, the I'll mans house, the river and walks, guided tours, a lovely place. The cottage home by the stream sadly is now a pile of rocks, come on Eire, restore it as there are so many visitors wishing to see the tranquility, the scenery and film locations. See the bus loads of Yanks visiting!
I saw the film and I visited in person the village where it was made. I love it because it truly has the spirit of the Irish in it. It really is not an exaggeration! Nat Cooper, Bangor, NI
Nat. That is one place I would love to visit. I have been to a few places in Ireland, north and south. I truly love the place, I have friends in Belfast and we went for a day out to Bangor about eight years ago, a great day too.
It was amazing to see the town for myself when I was in Ireland about 5 years ago. I did the whole dress up in costume thing they do when you take the tour of some of the movie sites and hear tales of how the locals reacted. Ashford castle is about 2 miles down the road where Maureen and John Wayne stayed during filming. I was told they had to send some of the crew down to a local pub to keep an eye on the Duke and make sure he made it back to his room at night.
The was the movie Ford had wanted to make for many years with his perfect cast. Perfectly directed and perfectly acted by all concerned right down to the smallest parts. It is a valentine to an Ireland that probably never was.

I’ve mentioned previous working in the late 70s decorating her home in Glengarrif. This brings back memories as we would have access to each room to open and close.p windows. Doing this was part and parcel of our work. There was a long beautiful hallway to the upstairs. Along the wall there were water colours from scenes of the movie. I can see them in my minds eye and as if it was only recent.
Wonderful film. Must be one of Ford's greatest. It makes me laugh and emotional too as I have Irish on my mother's side. Wayne is great as usual as are Fitzgerald, McLaglen, Bond etc but Maureen O'Hara is just stunning and Ford makes the most of her beauty and personality.
This IS the timeless epitome of great direction and acting from 2 movie giants at the time. I ordered this movie from Amazon and my wife and I pull this out at least a couple of times a year to really see what acting was in the day, not the CG twaddle that’s offered as entertainment these days. A true historical monument to acting and of course, the gorgeous backdrop of the Emerald Isle. Outstanding work by so many great actors of the day. Love Ward Bond as the “ frustrated fly fisherman” and of course, Barry Fitzgerald as the “ matchmaker/chaperone/cabbie. Just a warm, touching film. 👍🇨🇦

When Duke isn't on the Saddle this is my Favorite film of his . And i would have Loved to have visited Ireland in the 50s . I have no desire to do that now .

My absolutely favorite movie of all time! I love the scene when he dragged her off the train and back to her brother’s house. The old woman who hands John Wayne a stick and says, “Son here’s a good stick to beat the lovely lady with.” Back then you were allowed to beat your wife with a stick wasn’t thicker than your thumb! 😳🤦🏻♀️

The Quiet Man is a "quietly" great movie. No cursing, no sex, no political message. It's hard to explain. You have to see it to understand, and I doubt if any of today's generation ever could.
Ford had commitments from O Hara, Wayne and the cast as early as 1944 for this movie. But no on would take it on thinking it was a silly old Irish story that wouldn’t sell. Eventually a studio offered to do it as long as Ford and crew would make a westerns for him first to pay for it. The western was Rio Grande, but it was with the Quiet man that he made his big money.
My grandfather on me mithers side was born and lived in Belfast. He was the most entertaining and flat out funniest men I ever knew. But he could tell hellish stories of wwI at chateau Thierry and Bellevue wood where he fought.
A better World where better people lived. It was not perfect but people were real and definitely better. The World today is heading down the plug hole .....Jesus is coming back soon . I always loved Maureen but was never that fond of the duke I always thought that he was just being himself and not really acting sort of being cast in his own genre, but I really love him in this film you can see that Maureen and the duke were very fond of each other and the look in each other’s eyes is not acting it’s love for each other and you don’t have to have a romantic love to love someone just look at the love you have for close relatives and understand, I always felt that Maureen was lost after her hubby died in that air acccident,

It is unfortunate that you had a bad experience. But sadder still ,would it be to not share the joy you could render by sharing the photos with others. Could you not put a water mark on them to claim credit? You can't take them with you, in the end.
Laws vary by country and have changed considerably since 1951, but are your photos copyrighted or able to be? That would be a way to keep people from sharing them. If wanting recognition is the issue, a watermark is an easy solution. It could be a small notice in the corner like old studio production photos or a more aggressive covering like Alamy or Historical Images.

I saw this film when I was a kid and I loved it to bits, I still do. A very sweet film compared to the horror and graphic violence of today.
One of the greatest of Ford or Wayne's films. Probably THE greatest either ever made. We are not going to see the like again.

I've watched the Movie a few times & never tire of it, so good in every way, simple ways back then, in that era, not like today.
