Second movement, beautiful, sounds quite Porpora-esque, to me. Thank you Haydn...

Due to the time Haydn spent as a penniless young man after being thrown out of St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, acting as valet and accompanist to Porpora’s singing lessons, he is probably after CPE Bach, one of the very few composers who could be said to have taught Haydn anything.
Haydn told his earliest biographers that he learned much from Porpora about singing and accompaniment, composition, and the Italian language; I think it possible he may have helped Haydn with his counterpoint studies as well.
That said, not sure I can hear anything of Porpora in this symphony where the passion melodies have all been clearly identified, and Haydn’s treatment of them is unmistakably Haydnesque.
Porpora as a vocal composer is well worth investigating; a good shout to mention an all but forgotten, but very fine composer.

Swore I could hear a cor anglais in the second movement. Such is not in the credits (see Wikipedia), so it must be the oboe in its bottom registers. What a sad and beautiful sound.

You are mistaken; Symphony 22 is the only symphony Haydn replaced the normal two oboes with two cors anglais - a highly original switch found in no other symphony whether by Haydn, or anybody else in the eighteenth century.
The effect in Symphony 22, particularly in the first movement is very powerful.
Symphony 26 has the standard early Eszterhaza orchestra of 2 oboes, 2 horns, bassoon, and strings.
On your Haydn listening journey, you will come across him using these instruments occasionally - almost always in E flat - and the effect is invariably both striking and very moving due to the unique sound a pair of these instruments can create in the hands of a composer who understands how to use them.

@@elaineblackhurst1509 I'm looking at the booklet of this very CD. Virgin Veritas. bar code #0 7567-90743-2 4. La Petite Bande Sigiswald Kuijken p)1988 c)1988 also, reissued c)2000 on a double CD set from Virgin Veritas. THE SCORING IS NOT FOR COR ANGLAIS. IT IS FOR THE USUAL TWO OBOES. I'm not saying Haydn didn't score this symphony with Cor Anglais in mind. I am saying that La Petite Bande did not use them here.

Thank you for your correction - you are quite right, and I got muddled up; my reply above referred to Symphony 22 which is the only symphony by Haydn - or anyone else - where the two oboes are replaced by cors anglais.
My mistake - embarrassed apologies - I will amend my comment above so that it makes sense.

Haydn's first symphony in the minor. Mozart reached his at 25 but managed only one more! Haydn managed lots more, great ones too! Now tell me who was the better composer!

Pointless question; the two composers are entirely different musical personalities in every respect.
The only thing they have in common, which they both mutually acknowledged, is their immense stature.

I think mozarts pieces in minor are much more powerful.. It's like when mozart wrote in minor, he felt it really deeply (I heard he wrote piano sonata in c minor when his mother died, dont know for sure)

It was the sonata in a minor (K310).
If you compare this sonata with Haydn’s c minor sonata Hob XVI: 20 written a few years earlier, it is impossible to say that either composer is ‘more powerful’ than the other.
What is true though is that they had slightly differing approaches to minor key works - not better or worse, different.
Try to learn to appreciate both in the way the two composers themselves appreciated each other; there were very good reasons for their mutual admiration.
