My very first Thanksgiving, my very first turkey. In the late 80's you couldn't just pull up videos of how to do things, so I went about (what I thought) was cleaning the turkey. Put it in the oven. A few hours later was talking to my dad on the phone. He asked me what I was going to do with the neck and the gizzards and stuff. I told him I didn't think my turkey came with that. It did, I found them later, inside a bag, on the inside of my roasted turkey.

Me too! Couldn't understand why it was taking so long to cook because even though the turkey fully defrosted, that stuff must have stayed frozen!

I'm doing this make ahead freeze prep this weekend and I'm so excited. I watched all the other ladies videos on this collab, and they had great ideas, too! I'm making Ma's Rolls for the first time, think I'll half the recipe...making pumpkin rolls to freeze too! I'm going thru my list to see what dishes I can prep the night before, so I can pop it in the oven the day of. Thanks for the great tips!

Pie crust is so easy here is my great grandma( babas)
    5c flour
    1lb Lard
    1 1/4cup ginger ale or 7up.
Mix it all together by hand. If you want more flakey crust just put a lil less ginger ale /7up.
It’s fail proof so easy. So cheap.

One of my go to's for a quick dessert is a fruit cobbler. My go to recipe is from an Amish-Mennonite cookbook and uses 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of fruit (I've used everything from fresh fruit to pie filling) and a few other ingredients. I just basically dump everything in my casserole and bake. Quick, easy and delicious! I call it my cuppa-cuppa-cuppa cobbler, lol. I think I'll make those pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving this year! I have a chronic illness and if I gradually work on a pie here and a pie there as I can, I will be ready! Thanks for the inspiration!

My Holiday Blooper 😂😂😂: We were invited to a family get together and we were in charge of bringing cabbage rolls. We always make the huge single serving size cabbage rolls and we usually use toothpicks to hold them together while they bake up. So my mother and I had a huge assembly line going and we manage to get two huge roaster pans full of cabbage rolls. We brought them to the party and I tried one (she wouldn't let me touch any at home! Lol) and it tasted weird. It was then I realized..... WE USED MINT TOOTHPICKS TO HOLD THE ROLLS TOGETHER! 😭😂. Two giant pans of mint flavoured cabbage rolls.... Yeah... Not the most popular dish at the party that night 😂😂😂😂😂😩😩😩😩😩😩.

When I was in college my roommate and I were throwing a St. Patrick's day party(we lived off campus in an apartment). I was making my sugar cut out cookies. Well we were chatting and I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Measured out what I thought was salt. It wasn't it was pepper! We picked out as much as we could got the salt in there and carried on. I was so nervous that people were going to complain. Well the guy I was dating his younger brothers ate those things up, they couldn't stop eating them. My roommate and I just sat there and giggled and never said anything!!

Thanksgiving many moons ago, I used a cooking bag for my turkey. It cooked in about 2 hours. I wasn't sure if it was done so I left it in the oven another two hours. I completely caramelized my turkey. It was like charcoal through and through. Happy Thanksgiving. I forgot, it was my first Thanksgiving cooking for my husband.

    • @RTCPhotoWork
      @RTCPhotoWork 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I was wondering about this part, too. In the original video, you let the rolls rise 1 1/2-2 hours to double in size. Play with double that time so that they can thaw and double in size. If you have them on the pan, on the oven as it preheats this will help them double quickly for the last 20 minutes of that time.

My holiday cooking blooper: one year I had purchased a fresh turkey for Thanksgiving instead of frozen. It released so much more drippings that it overflowed the roasting pan... and caught fire when I opened the oven door! We had to turn the oven off for 20 minutes until the oven elements were cooled off enough to be able to open the oven door again. We got the pan drained and oven cleaned up and still got the turkey done, just a little late lol!

Don’t you know being messy is a sign of an artistic person? Hit the nail on the head with you.
I love parchment, works good for me. I use my late Aunt Verna’s pie recipes. How do you keep going? I’m so tired ugh! You always encourage me, Thank you dearly!

A few years ago I had a lot of people over for a buffet style dinner. It had been over 30 years since I had made stuffing but I attempted to make a big pan. First, I forgot to put eggs in it. Then I didn't cook it long enough. It was still mushy. A few people actually ate it. It was awful. I use stuffing mix and add extra seasonings to it now.

I make a ton of homemade sugar cookies and I always use parchment paper. Makes cleanup so much easier. We have so much to do at the holidays, I will try anything to make it easier!

When I first started baking I made a key lime pie for my brother's birthday, but used two cans of sweetened condensed milk instead of one and it was basically sweetened condensed milk pie.

My mother in law uses maple syrup in her pumpkin pies. I think its about 1 cup in a pie. Oh my goodness, sooo good!
