While I do like Thursdays, they aren't on the same level of quality as Allen Edmonds. But at less than 1/2 the price, they are a much better value. I agree about Grant Stones, almost $400 right now.
I prefer the original 2016 Higgins that I own because the lining was better. They changed the lining in the weatherproof versions and added some kind of plastic in between the leather and lining to prevent water. I also find the originals had better support. The creases though are just the luck of the draw. Loose grain can happen to any boot, and that's why they call it a lottery.
Got Higgins Mill weatherproof pair in 2021 and they had the same Chromexcel loose grain issue. I sold at loss. You can get Alden seconds with good CXL for $439. Better deal.
It depends. For dress boots, Allen Edmonds Landon and Dalton boot. For casual beater workbooks, Thursday. Comfortable snow boot, Ecco Track 25 GTX. Comfortable waterproof chukka, Cole Haan Original Grand Chukka Boot.
i got two pairs of higgins mills with the three kings design and they have been a delight to wear, i think they are itailian leather. i have a pair of weatherproof chapmans with black chromexcel that ive been wearing in the snow with the itshide soles, they are great. especially for the 249 bucks i got them on sale for. one boot has minuscule creasing, the other has one side panel with major creasing. must be a belly cut piece.
Yes. One seems to be thicker and more insulating (the original one from 2016), and one seems to be thinner and wrinkles more (weatherproof ones). They are both chromexel, but it looks like the weatherproof ones use a cheaper hide.
Cheaney crockett jones or tricker's for quality. Noting that jim green and thursday are slowly entering. Presently competing with red wings and id say soon to take on grant stone and trumans.
@tommilano5431 i ended up selling the higgins mill after being disappointed with the broken toe celastic piece and celastic heel counters along with the atrocious loose grain on the right boot. Parkhurst has their end of year sale. They use all leather. Snagged a pair for $320. Can't beat that deal. Hope to see a review of that brand in the future from you 😉
Allen edmonds are on the same level as thursday yet double the price. Grant stone is where its at for this kind of boot
Grant stone has been creeping up in price lately but still the best price to quality ratio imo

Agree, probably why the weatherproof ones breathe better for some reason.

I've heard CXL is like that. I looked at the Alden Indy boot before, I do like the style!
Loake Bedale boots are a good alternative for a similar price point and Loake does have sales.
I'll take a look, thank you.
So what’s your favourite now?

Nice, it sounds like you got lucky and got a better pair than I did!
Are both of these chromexcel version or different leathers?
Yes. One seems to be thicker and more insulating (the original one from 2016), and one seems to be thinner and wrinkles more (weatherproof ones). They are both chromexel, but it looks like the weatherproof ones use a cheaper hide.
its called loose grain
from poor clicking (choosing n cutting sub par hides)
Yep, I've heard the terms loose grain and clicking. The curse of CXL leather.

Thank yoU!
Just get some Parkhursts or if you save up a pair of Bergs to make Brett happy 😂
Thanks, I'll look at those.
