    Thank you for bringing back some fond memories of Papaaloa and Laupahoehoe area. Grandma used to cut our hair. We played recreational sports at the gym and park as a kid growing up.

      Hi Ricki! Thanks for commenting. It's nice to know that you knew grandma back when she cut hair! After talking with my mom and my uncles, it seems like growing up there was so special.

    This is a beautiful testament to your family's love for one another. Your grandmother really enjoyed herself, meeting everyone and seeing the place where it all began. It seems your grandmother was umcomfortable with all the fuss made over her at first and was a lady of few words. But she was really experiencing the joy and full of so many memories to take home!

    Loved this video, I live on the Big Island and it warms my heart to see families like yours. I used your Grandparents nishime recipe and it passed the test of my parents and Grandma, they loved it! Wishing you and your whole family a safe and healthy 2018. Thank you for sharing your Ohana with us.

    just found your channel. brings back lots of memories. Benji and owen look like twins. i used to get haircuts from grandma back in the late 60s and early 70s. there was also a barbershoe down the road by the old theather and across the tennis courts. Mrs Hara was the barber. Can u believe 2 barbershop in a small town in Papaaloa? But than they served people from ninole to ookala. warren, owen, and benji was all great tennis players. Warren and owen played baseball also. warren was a great first baseman and owen great shortstop. i was gone when benji graduated so i dont know if he played bb. who was the lady working in the community store a year younger than benji? Nice to see the Poes and mr Fuji. I need to watch your other videos . Who live in tamamotos house now? so Gail, warren, owen and benji all love in oahu now? who takes care of grandma?Laupahoehoe hs was very small so we knew everyone back than in the 60s and 70s. I just saw warrens retirement video. did any of his classmates attend?

Next week I have a fun video coming out of all my uncles and my mom and grandma cooking together! Please come back at and watch!

    What a special video and keepsake! I remember sitting in your grandma's barbershop watching my dad get his haircut by her. The first library was on the other end of the building before they built the library up at the school. Also nice to see Mr. Fuji and the Yoshidas at the service at Papa'aloa Hongwanji. Great to see your family enjoy themselves. Please tell Benji my brother moved back home and too bad I didn't know he was visiting Laupahoehoe or else they could have seen each other.

      Joy Hansen Laupahoehoe seems like it was such a special place. And yes, my grandma was really happy to see Mr. Fuji and the the Yoshida’s at service. Thank you for watching! I hope it helped bring back some fond memories from your past too.

    hi there, i came across this video when researching another location in papaaloa. our company is rebuilding the senior housing project in papaaloa (very old buildings) and i was wondering: is your grandmother's barber shop the building next door to the senior housing project (also across the street from the papaaloa gym/ball field)?

      @Caritaira  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      wow, a senior housing project! That sounds so awesome! Keep me posted on your project! Hm... it was in a white building across from a house (my grandparents old house) that I believe is green now. Diagonally across from her barber shop is the park.
