I think that is a reason, but I would add that the fact that they have basically all their developers working in the same game means that they concentrate all their efforts in one thing, and not in different ones
GTA Online also robbed GTA V of plenty of features as simple as buying luxury houses and they refuse to add any GTAV Story DLC. They won't also add new heists in SP. All that just so people would be forced to play GTAO only to buy shark cards on auto. What a shame V itself could have been so much more but was limited to cater to the onlinr audience.
Once hyper realism took over, it became incredibly difficult to release a single game, the whole company had to work on the same project and if it's not profittable, it could sink the company right away. This is why we are seeing less creativity, less risk and less games. One of the reasons why I didn't like this generation that much overall. Next generation is going to be even worse, since there will continue to be a massive focus on realism, live services and online cash cows.
Rockstar can survive for the last of human civilization history only with the money of GTA V. Rockstar Will never released another GTA.
I miss when GTA wasn't so restrictive in how I could play, at least during missions.
Yea everything is now scripted if you try to have fun or trey to do the mission your way you fail the mission and it give you some bs message why u failed

SpongeBob battle for bikini bottom was my absolute favorite game and first thing I remember for games. It gives me such a weird feeling because everything in life was horrible just at a young age and this game gives me a sense of safety and danger...it's such an enigma to me, too bad I don't own it...brb boutta emulate it

I've been playing only ps2 and gamecube recently and it really shows you how shallow, uncreative, and manipulative games are now. I remember playing fighting games to unlock extra characters or finding a secret in a game to find a new outfit. Now if I want a new outfit or fighter I have to pay extra for it. Not only that but the creativity of games back then was insane compared to now. (Then) mr mosquito, samurai western, God hand(now) call of duty, call of duty, assassins creed, call of duty, fortnite, and call of duty.
There are milliosn of games to choose from nowadays if youre just gonna look at the big games then of course you wont see as much creativity because many people just like fps. Look at some indie games they are still trying out new things

I got Vice City at Xmas when I was 10 years old. On the same day I got it my cousin told my parents the game was about shagging hookers then killing them.
Fair to say that they made me return it and get two other games instead; one of which was LoTR: The Two Towers which was pretty epic! haha

I also didn't get a PS3 until way later on (like 2010 or 2011 I think) so I was playing PS2 games for a while.
San Andreas, God of War 1+2, MGS 3, Black, Shadow of the Colossus and Resident Evil 4 were all so impressive though that not jumping on the next gen train for a while didn't bother me at all.

Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Remix was my pride and joy back in the day. It’s what got me into car culture and now I’m out of my ricer stage, but man, I loved the customization.

All the ps2 OG's remember gta 3, vice city, San Andreas, dbz budakia, def jam 1-2, dynasty warriors 3-5, narc, 25 to life, lotr games, jak1-3, ratchet & clank, Simpson's, conflict Vietnam, desert storm 1-2, medal of honor, shellshock, max Payne, resident evil, the thing, etc, I could go on! We had a great childhood 90s kids.
So weird to think how we are from a different part of the world, living in different cultures, speaking different languages yet we share the same memories. Especially Smackdown vs. Raw hit differently here.

Honestly i wish they'd just make it to seperate modes kinda like how fallout has regular mode where you dont need to eat and survival mode where you gotta eat, sleep, worry about sickness, and no fast travel. This way people can play a more simple relaxing version or the more realistic sim version

I didn't have a PS2 back in 2007 but I bought one a few years back and my kids love it!!! We now have around 97 games!
My PS2 favs are:
- Bully (fun to complete)
- The Warriors (the vibe and replay ability are amazing)
- Digimon (fun w/friends)
- All Crash and Spyro games.

Yeah, the game for me was too boring. Well, I didn't play any GTA games back in the day, and I only like GTA 4 after playing GTA V. I prefer linear games to open world, but I like some open world games.
You definitely brought me back with that spongebob game man good times😢 but the ps2 games I always played was sly cooper, crash bandicoot,midnight club,destroy all humans,Star Wars battlefront 2, Jax and daxter, and I had a pack of all the gtas out of that time

I miss simple fun arcadey games, like some good old 3D platformers.
What happened is that games like Spyro and Battle for Bikini Bottom, while enjoyable to adults, were primarily made and sold for kids. It’s not coincidence that that type of game almost entirely disappeared from consoles in the early 2010s: mobile gaming cannibalized the kids game market, late 7th gen motion control addons were the final push to keep consoles relevant in kids games, but the trend eventually died.
The only survivor of the 3D platformer (and “kids” game in general) purge was Nintendo, and only barely during the Wii U years. It feels like in recent years their leaning away from their kids game persona to appeal to their nostalgic adult fans more, which doesn’t really change the type of games they make, but does change how they market their products. Who needs kids when a large portion of your player base are nostalgic adults? Let the kids play on their iPod touches, Nintendo has enough loyal adult fans to survive losing the kids to mobile gaming.
Unfortunately, a lot of other companies that made these types of games didn’t change their marketing, and their franchises faded to obscurity. Hopefully the recent batch of remasters of old games like Spyro, Crash, and Destroy All Humans is a sign that publishers have woken up to the reality that there’s an eager adult audience out there wanting to play games that remind them of simpler times.

I really understand how you feel on like games which are more arcade-like. I don't always want to get away from responsibilities in real life by having responsibilities in a game.
Every time I play vice city I'm like 'as soon as this tune finishes I'm starting a mission'. I then proceed to just drive around for an hour with the radio on honking at girl's.

San Andreas and Hit and Run were awesome. Played them around 2011 in pc.
Played SA at the beginning of 2012 for Xbox, and Hit and Run in 2018 for PS2. They're very fun games; SA is one of my favorite games.
Simmons hit and run needs to come out with a remastered version. Cuz thats all I used to play on Gabecube and Ps2 was Simmons Hit and Run and Spongebob.

The more realistic R*'s games get, the less I find myself going on endless rampages across the maps lol Not only is it more difficult (with more challenging wanted systems), but it just gets harder to stomach with the added realism and animations.

Most epic wrestling game of all time? No, that would be Here comes the Pain my friend. I do agree very well that modern games are too realistic. GTA V has great characters with cool action and a good story but it’s way to realistic with the damage, the cars, combat is slow and sluggish, it’s boring genuinely. I haven’t owned a modern WWE game besides 2K14 and 2K15. One is balanced good between realistic and unrealistic. The other is too realistic. Here comes the pain kicks so much ass as a wrestling game because it takes what people love about pro wrestling and pumps it up to be a game! It’s so much fun. Unrealistic helps you Immerse yourself, not being forced immersion is a great feeling. Saints row 2 for example, it started raining and I put my characters hoodie up because I wanted to, not because the game said I would get cold. Great points made here.

shadow of the colossus will always be my favorite. As a child and as an adult im amazed by how beautiful the game is.
due to this pandemic i have bought and played "Spongebob Battle for Bikinin Bottom, The Dexter's Lab game, Marvel Nemesis, and Simpsons Hit and Run" all bc i never finished 3/4 of these games 100%
Back then it wasn't about how many cockflops your console could put out. No internet dependent design, where you have to be always online to have a good time. It was fun gameplay, right out of the box, plain and simple.
