I totally agree with the "Save some Wonder" sentiment. When I started playing D&D5E after not having played for many years (and revisions), I played with someone experienced who couldn't help but say, "Oh, you should have these spells instead, and use this weapon for this, and do this for that", etc. It felt so prescriptive. It took away all the choice. It eliminated any sense of experimentation. Basically, it made it much less fun. The most fun I've had is when the entire group is at a similar level of familiarity and are all sort of figuring their way as they adventure together. "Fun" is the #1 goal.
