If you watched the full scene, the debate was about a political one. But the marine friends were very disrespectful to the wife and were throwing sexists remarks at her. If the man had politely stood up for his wife rather than acting bossy to her or walking off like a child, the situation wouldn't have escalated too much. Even if hypothetically his wife was fully in the wrong, he could have told her to sit down with a please not a 'now'. He also could have added that don't talk to my wife like that man. I haven’t seen the movie, but if my husband is in the wrong, I’m not backing them up just because we are married. I will tell them so because that’s what a good spouse does because they’re not always right. If I was wrong, I’d want them to do the same for me. If you watched the full scene, the debate was about a political one. But the marine friends were very disrespectful to the wife and were throwing sexists remarks at her. If the man had politely stood up for his wife rather than acting bossy to her or walking off like a child, the situation wouldn't have escalated too much.
Even if hypothetically his wife was fully in the wrong, he could have told her to sit down with a please not a 'now'. He also could have added that don't talk to my wife like that man. It's all about the way he handled the situation. And people, mostly men here don't see it.

Her having to defend her independence shouldn't have even come acrossed her mind. The friend saying "get your girl" is him telling the dude to step in to squash it. It's not an equality thing, it's merely the friend thinking that he's the only person she'll listen to in that current moment.

As a woman who actually respects her man you wouldn’t act like this in public in the first place. If I'm going off, my husband has been going off for 20 minutes already. He's much quicker to temper, but if I go off, he knows it's a big deal and he's going to let me do whatever and have my back. Choose your battles, so the big ones are easy wins.
It's best if you also pick your battles wisely it won't look good for your man when you get into and argument when you're in the wrong, granted it won't also look good if he does the same. But it's always good to support each other right or wrong but do some introspection after and talk.
I haven’t seen the movie, but if my husband is in the wrong, I’m not backing them up just because we are married. I will tell them so because that’s what a good spouse does because they’re not always right. If I was wrong, I’d want them to do the same for me. Being married doesn’t entitle you to be right all the time and it takes a lot more to stand up and say that they’re not right than just to roll with it because you’re married and want to avoid the situation.
