I struggle with this too. I’m Ethiopian. People always say I look Somali. Which is fine but then I hear ‘oh you can’t be Ethiopian’. It does hurt. Thank you for this song. I feel like someone understands.
Somali is ethiopia don't ever forget that

Habesha nesh???
This is the question referred in the song as 'አንድ አይነት ጥያቄ'
So unthoughtful and ignorant of you bringing a hearsay that contributes rather for ethnic division at this dreadful time of civil war!…There is no-one that calls a person Bariya in 21st century unless its Bariyee or Baricho as statements of love and affection! This "song" is melancholic, boring, irresponsible, and concept from wishful thinking of going viral! Its not mentally or socially constructive nor entertaining for the wordings are dark! It doesn't sound as Ethiopian as you claimed yourself to be for you chose the beats from Mali and a wound long lost at Stone Age! Ethiopia deserves better! And "Habesha" means mixed referring to people residing in North Ethiopia, and does not necessarily mean Ethiopian! Did you even do your research before murmuring over our ears? Shame on the producers!
Where does the word « barich / bariye » come from ? What’s the root of the word ? I honestly think this is where the mind fuck is. Just because one adds « ye » at the end of a word doesn’t mean it changes its meaning. As for the word « habesha » it was used to identify people of the northern part of Ethiopia and Eritrea but then it changed and is now used to refer to people coming both from Ethiopia and Eritrea so we don’t make any ethnic distinction. I’m talking about these subjects because they are the causes of what’s happening right now and we’re all suffering from it. Hoping we can all talk about this someday with respect, empathy and love 🫶🏾
What is unthoughtful and ignorant about presenting the reality in a creative form? Do you honestly believe the terms '"Baricho'' and ''Baryee'' are used to express love? As a society, we claim to be the icon of panafricanism with the never colonized state narrative that we have been told for ages. However, the reality is way different than that. We are not inclusive and we do not encourage being different. The terms we use for light and dark skin people clearly display who we are. We favor light skin people using terms such as 'ቅላት መልክ አይፈጅም' which refers if one has light they are beautiful by default and we use 'የጥቁር ቆንጆ ' for dark skin people. The term 'የጥቁር ቆንጆ' may sound like a loving phrase but the deeper connotation refers to people that are exceptionally beautiful for dark skin because we believe dark skin does not define beauty. You may assume this song contributes to ethnic division but we are already ethnically divided nation so this song didn't portray something that doesn't exist.
@@iridimusic Ethiopians would like to hear of peace! It would have been smart choice for you in your quest of going viral as well. See how Abdu Kiar made it to 700K in a day just for offering well thought of and very much demanded lifting up words for a distressed nation... Not only Ethiopia, the world had history of slavery in each and every culture. Move on or see a therapist to help you move on. and no; we don't have to indulge on such talks to satisfy those like you running by victims mentality and join you on the stage as if its the idea the world revolves around for...doing that brought in war after war in the past 50 years and you want to echo it again...and its so funny that you rather let yourself to identify as "Habesha" by rationalizing that its a common reference to both Ethiopians and Eritreans these days while disregarding the very fact the society that once called you Bariya had evolved and now refers to people like you as Bariyee and Baricho with affection..including using it to all dark chocolate skinned people in every household in Ethiopia...are you even proud being from the south or pretending? your analogy of picking and identifying with "Habesha" and not "bariyee" makes it sound like you roll with identity crises and oblivious of your environment. Singing of social issues require sense of social responsibility, not pretense.
@@Distantvoyager0011 how do you rate Teyim Asa Mesay with your deep Amharic and history knowledge? or the fact that every culture in the world had history of slavery but moved on and how society came to the point of calling the kid next door as Baricho and Bariyee without him being from SNNPR? And did you pass your Matric exam and made it to Admas college?
