Our dog was suffering with a bad ear infection in both ears since last summer. It was as if it occurred overnight, ears were fine one day, then inflamed and infected the next. Our vet kept giving him the same medicated cream for a yeast infection, which he had but he also had an extraordinary amount of gooey, slimy discharge that smelled just awful. I took him back to the vet twice asking repeatedly if there could be something else going on...he kept telling me to "just use the cream" and "don't flush out his ears, just wipe them out with a cotton gauze soaked with ear cleaner". After 2 months of doing this and going through several expensive tubes of the same Rx cream that did not seem to be helping, I finally went to another vet clinic for a second opinion. The new vet took an ear culture from both ears (something our other vet did not do), and as it turned out, our dog had a nasty Pseudomonas infection in both ears, along with the yeast overgrowth. It also turned out that our dog had become immune to the Rx cream prescribed by our other vet so it lost its effectiveness over several months of use. The new vet gave us Baytril drops which finally cleared up the Pseudomonas. It is also suspected that environmental allergies may have caused the initial infection. I now clean his ears more frequently with a simple vinegar/warm water rinse. The new vet also gave me a lot of much needed information about this nasty bacteria and what to look out for as it is very common to reoccur, unfortunately. Needless to say, we will definitely not be returning to our previous vet.
I know this is late but I wanted to say thank you as well! I followed some tips online utilizing water and ACV to clean the ear. It definitely cleaned the black gunk out, but my puppy's ear was turning red. I found this gem and used Green Tea instead of water, and I'm still sitting here looking at my puppy's ears. They are not red and have come back to his normal ear color. Highly recommend the Green Tea instead of water along with some ACV Edit: I do twice a day, once in the morning and once at night before bed. Has been working amazingly for 2 days!
I noticed our dog’s ear was red some a few sores (probably for scratching). Switched from water to green tea and there’s been an almost immediate difference!
Our working dogs (hunting Labs) were daily in and out of water (lake, steam, marsh.) We are very good about cleaning the outside of the ears with a wipe. Out of three dogs, not one has ever had an ear infection. We had a "process" after their run... we put them up on the bed of the truck and did a health check. We looked for cuts, punctures, ticks, briars and any minor injuries in general. PREVENTION is key!!
We have been through so much with my girl’s ear infections. She is a dachshund and for a long time - years in fact - a weekly deep sloshy clean prevented them and we thought we had it sorted but then she got one that was so bad it took ages to clear it away with antibiotics. Because my dogs ear infections were allergy related (she had a skin prick allergy test) we eventually did immunotherapy and she hasn’t had one since. So good to see her healthy and not itching
You my friend are fantastic. My vet keeps giving my bulldog ottomax ointment. NO GOOD. I stopped it. Einswd his ears with warm water. It's all scabbing over. Looks like it is healing . What else. Tell me. I dont think he had infection. I thi k he had dirt. Now he has irritation and lots of scabs from reaction to ottomax. Sigh. You are great.
Thank you so much for this invaluable information! Everywhere I looked it said I HAD to take my dog to the vet to treat her ear infection, but it just didn't make sense to me how that was necessary. My parents lent me their dog's ear cleaner their vet sold them for $70 and it wasn't even medicated, the main ingredients were vegetable glycerine and alcohol!! Currently treating my dog with an OTC ear cleaner that has witch hazel and clotrimazole cream. It's only been 2 days but I'm noticing her ears are looking less red and irritated already!
Thank you. Really appreciate your videos, can't begin to tell you how much we have spent over the past 20 years. Ears being top of list. Thank you again.

Hello Dr Jones I'm from New Zealand my son saved a puppy that was neglected an abused so being a first time dog owner we took her into the local veterinarian to get medical health check and I kid you not I paid $120 for one 3mth flea tablet. I raised my concerns to the veterinarian can she tell me what was the black sticky discharge in her ear? she said it was nothing puppy maybe allergic to something my son said to the vet puppy keeps shaking her head an scratching her ears still the vet replied she's got fleas unbelievable because of this incident it has put me off from going to the vet. Money sucking leachers. I started treating our puppy with the green tea remedy as well as the ointment. She is much better now an is no longer in pain or scratching i thank you very much an appreciate your natural home remedies after watching your video links I know what to look for. New Zealand is a small country so we don't have some of your medicine u have shown on your clips Nz veterinarian clinic are so expensive they have set up finance companies to pay for treatment's if you can't afford it . that's if you qualify. if you don't have the money your guess is good as mine if you are lucky you will be in debt for a very long time.
This is amazing! I've been dealing with my dogs ear issues for years. It wasn't until my vet was on leave that the vet standing in told me it was allergies. We've switched food and shes on chicken free and grain free but her ears still have chronic yeast! This video was so helpful. This is the first video of yours that I have watched so I have to ask - what can I do besides continue to treat these infections. Is there a way to find out what they are allergic to or anything i can give her or put in her food to make her less likely to get these?
Thanks for watching! Please check my playlist on allergies. I made videos on both environmental and food allergies. Hope it'll help you understand your dog's condition: bit.ly/2PSREKG
I had wonderful results following your 2 weeks twice a day, (lotrimen and anti inflammatory) nailed it she looks great. And ill keep an eye out for the ear hair plucking. Very very happy i found you. Respectfully Marcel Kidder
Thank you for all your great advices, I will try it, and I will let everyone know how it worked:) My poodle’s ear is red and the colour of the discharge is dark brown, but I’m pretty sure that is what’s is referred in the video as black. So I’m definitely trying the cream, thank you:))
Hello there, thank you for all your advice it’s very helpful. My dog is suffering from an ear infection that was probably caused by an allergy he had a couple of weeks ago. Now every time we touch his ear it seems to be in pain. I’m going to do the cream remedy 1% clotrimazole but I’m afraid that he won’t let me rub it because he is pain. Can I just put the cream without rubbing it?
Thank you so much for all your great and honest information. I am so grateful to have found your channel. So much helpful tips. 🙏🏻 My Dog has a yeast infection in his ear yet both of his eardrums are perforated. How can I treat this since I have been told not to put any liquids into the ear canal? Can you please any advise?
I’m new to your channel, very glad to have found it! I’m anxious to try these remedy’s. Could you address ear warts please? I’m still surfing so I may have not found this subject yet. Thank you.
Hi! My Siberian Husky looks like he has a yeast (dark debris, smells funny), but he also has a bit of maybe eczema (possibly from scratching and inflammation). I started using a bit of (liquid) coconut oil with a wash cloth to wipe the ear out, then massaged it into the ear. I'm actually afraid that the vinegar would be too harsh on the eczema (dry skin). Do you suggest I use the vinegar instead of the coconut oil? Appreciate any input! :)
Thank you so much for all you share with us. MANY of us cannot take our animal companions to the vet. Most of the time, uf we can, its REPEAT visits for the SAME thing. Personally, I always prefer natural treatments for me and my boys 😊

Question: Is miconazole nitrate 2% okay for ear yeast infections? I got it instead of the cclotrimazole 1%, with out realizing it. Also is it a good practice, to treat/wash ears (w/vinegar & water) for maintenance?
Hey doc, should I clean my dogs ear out before I apply the clotrimazole? I’m pretty certain she has a yeast infection based on how you described it. Funky odor, with black wax
My dog has had an ear problem for years all the ointments pills that have given doesn't work , his ear stayed puffy and they said his ear had to be Removed but they won't do the surgery because of his breathing 😢. I'm trying all Natura remedies I can
Hi there! I have a Longhaired Dachshund that has ongoing ear issues for several months. I am seeing a Vet almost once a week and paying $200 each visit. He has been on so many different types of ear medication. I am a bit over it and feeling very anxious. His right ear is now resolved. However, his left ear has an bacterial infection with scaring :( I am told it is nearly there and have to go back in two weeks. I am a little concerned as his ear has a few red spots on the leather of his ear and also in his ear canal. I am so tempted to try the green tea and ACV and forget the Otoflush daily and Mometamax twice a day. Do you think the green tea and ACV will help?
GUT MICROBIOME and the diet can make a huge difference! I also make an infused oil tincture as an ear cleaner, ACV and witch hazel as a maintenance cleaner and I've used Black Seed Oil (Nigella saliva) instead of that OTC cream. Dr J, you should research
Thank you. Great information. We haven lucky thus far. I’ve tried many times to download your free book following instructions. But it’s not working. Any suggestions?
Thank you very much Dr Jones for this video. But I just need to double check something with you as I have a hearing problem and use the CC option on videos. Did you say for the yeast type ear infections that one can use Monistat or Canesten in the dogs’ ear? Both my dogs has a little bit of what you’ve described so I’d like to be able to treat them holistically if possible. Once again, thank you very much for the videos you’ve done and for all your help.
Question so i put my dog on his own food allergy diet without the expensive food recommended from the vet. His ears seem to look okay after being on the different food for almost 12 weeks ive been obsessively checking his ears every day to make sure but recently i noticed a little head shaking and a little of him scratching at his ears but they look fine any ideas? Now i clean his ears once a month normally on the 15th of the month with a basic ear cleaner from the vet i put it on a cotton pad put it in his ear and gently squeezing his ear to squeeze out the cotton pad soked in the cleaner placed in his ear. I will then go over that with a dry cotton pad and get any cleaner and debris left behind after he shakes it out. I will also take just a dry cotton pad to his ears with no cleaner once or twice a month normally every 2 to 3 weeks or so. I just do it dry because i think if i used the cleaner every time it would do more harm than good
My dog got an Oti Pack 19 days ago . They cleaned it out of her ears 5 days ago. But she doesn’t hear well now . They told me to flush her ears every couple of days . But if it’s lanolin based , it doesn’t seem a water based flush would finish removing the Oti Pack . What do you suggest to finish removing it ? I don’t want it to harden up inside her ears . She’s a 12 year old miniature chi weenie . She HATES ear flushes by the way . Thank you 😊
I’ve spent tons of money of meds and products for her ears. They don’t get better. I know it’s allergies. I’ve changed her food. But I’m starting to realize this is bigger than me, she likes to roll around the grass outside and I’m convinced Florida is pretty much what triggers her allergies but unsure how to help her because I can’t move 😂😭😫🤷🏻♀️
I been observe my dog last year and this year of February something wrong I asked the vet when she shallow her saliva ? they said nothing wrong but I knows everytime she shallow something wrong. I brought my dog today in the vet and said she have yeast in her ear infection. She given me a medicine starting tomorrow to put in her. ears . If dont work I try this things
Is it safe to use vinegar for my dog's ear if she's suffering from a bacterial infection? Also can someone please tell me why one of her ears is making a sloshing sound when I rub it? She has no inflammation, there's mostly yellow discharge with a bad odour. I've taken her to two separate vets and nothing seems to work on her ear. The sloshing sound wont go away and that's making me very nervous. If someone has any idea about this, please leave a reply!
Thank you! I doubt you'll have time to read and reply but just in case (or does anyone know a great holistic dog forum to post this?): My dog definitely needs their ears cleaned (sometimes shaking, rubbing, scratching, whining, and for years has had scar tissue from hematoma which means the opening is narrowed and partly or fully deaf). But should a vet (or me with a flashlight??) check that there's no obstruction or ruptured ear drum first before I try the ACV green tea cleaning? Will the cotton balls and dog shaking head remove all that liquid, cause I hear it's a problem if fluid gets trapped in ear. In this case would a groomer buzzing ear hair and me or a groomer or vet carefully plucking with powder (cornstarch?) then cleaning (the ACV green tea or witch hazel?) be advised, to help air flow, cleanliness, and to better visually see what's going on? A vet once years ago gave him anesthesia to look closer and said they found a huge hairball or gunk in the ear but no vet has ever recommended that again. The ears don't smell and dog eats a very healthy, non-kibble diet.
What a kind soul. Especially now, we all want to do the best we can by our fur babies but often cannot afford to do so. Unfortunately I think many animals will be receiving these treatments far beyond the point when they are safe or appropriate. A Dr would very quickly recognize this. Others may have no idea even with the best of intentions. I include myself in this group. I was a pharmacist but that is not a vet. I made mistakes thinking my knowledge carried over. In many cases, it did not and made matters worse for my pup. None of this can make money appear that we don’t have, I get it. If this is your situation as it is mine, do your research being sure to find methods that are backed by Vets. Read about potential issues that could arise and BE PREPARED! You don’t want to end up worse than you started leaving you REALLY stuck.
How come my vet would never suggest a cream for my Shar pei's yeast ear infections? I know he has the same kind of ear infection that he always gets but my vet would always say to have him tested to be sure then they give me ear drop medication. I have been managing his ears when I put him on a all Natural ear cleaner and he was doing great until the company up the price from $28 to $34 so I tried a cheaper ear cleaner. That's when I thought maybe I should try the clotrimazole cream method so I don't over clean his ears. How many days should I do the clotrimazole cream on his ears?

Hi just wondering if I could use a nettle tincture instead of the tea. I have one from St. Francis Herbs (I live in Canada)that we use for seasonal allergies.
I have a 14-year-old terrier Chihuahua mix he had an ear infection with the smell in it for a while.. it was ignored ,now my dog can't hear is there anything I could do...???
My dog is 18 years old. He won't let a vet get close to him. His ear has been irritated for awhile. It hangs lower than the other ear and he flips his head a lot. At one point there was some orange/brown gunk that flew out on it's own and then he felt fine afterwards. However I don't think it went away. I have tried scooping out anything but I am not finding it dirty anymore like it was. It just stays irritated and seems to flare up sometimes. Any thoughts?
My question is how often should you rinse the dogs ears with the green tea n vin? Daily, every other day, weekly or what? Been doing it weekly, it's not working 😢 afraid to over due so that's my question
ik this video was for ear infections & it worked for our boy bear. but our boy Kodiak is a 9yo choc. lab who was diagnosed with diabetes on 10/30/21 we can't get him under control he's on 8u vetsulin q12h 1hr after meals. he's on wellness core raw rev with wholesome grains. both boys get fed at the same time but they're both still hungery between meals they grew up free feeding & never over ate. kodiak's lost 20lbs n less than 2months. help anyway u can with what can b tried ,snacks anything. thank u
My dog seems to have problems with her balance and weak legs and our vet thinks that it's a neurological disorder but we were treating an ear infection just two weeks ago and I was wondering if that may have spread to her inner ear and are causing chronic Neurosis symptoms that aren't actually related to brain damage? Please I know this video is a few weeks old but if somebody could kindly give me some advice I would really appreciate it. I have an appointment to take her to a neurologist tomorrow and was wondering if I should bring that up as a root cause.
It can be related to the ear infection if it is also affecting the inner ear ( vestibular system). In this case though there are signs such as falling to one side, eyes flickering (nystagmus). Discuss again with your vet
Look up vestibular disease or disorder - my dog's been suffering with it for a couple months now. She has the head tilt and stumbling/falling at times. We're treating her for dizziness with meclizine but I suspect it's an inner ear problem because she has been rubbing her ear on the floor and scratching at it.
Ear hair plucking is cruel. Thank you for confirming it's not necessary. I love and appreciate your honesty.
Thanks
iVE NEVER HEARD OF EAR PLUCKING.i WOULD SAY IF NECESSARY I WOULD USE LASER.DONT FEEL A THING.

If u use the cream, do u apply just once? Or multiple times? Other question, should u combine the cream and solution, or pick one or the other. Ty!
If the ear is black with some red should you wash the ear then apply the cream oh my gizmo aka Shih Tzu what could be the underling allergy
Very helpful, thank you.
Best wishes.
Glad it was helpful:)
Thank you so very much Dr.!! Such wonderful information!! Loved it!!!
Thanks, Jackie. I really appreciate your comments.
love your videos , a great help for us pet parent, looking forward for a lot of videos. thank you so much
You're most welcome!
Thanks and I shall
Thank you. Great information. We haven lucky thus far. I’ve tried many times to download your free book following instructions. But it’s not working.
Any suggestions?
Can you try with a different email? ie gmail
I would like to know how often do I use the green tea and apple cider vinegar?
Thank you very much Dr Jones for this video. But I just need to double check something with you as I have a hearing problem and use the CC option on videos. Did you say for the yeast type ear infections that one can use Monistat or Canesten in the dogs’ ear? Both my dogs has a little bit of what you’ve described so I’d like to be able to treat them holistically if possible.
Once again, thank you very much for the videos you’ve done and for all your help.
Following...also info. for miconazole 2%? (same instructions?)
what over the counter ear drops do you recommend? I don't know which ones to trust!
I love watching you with the fur-babies...you really love them and they love you!
❤🐾❤
Thanks Carol!
I just do it dry because i think if i used the cleaner every time it would do more harm than good
My poor blk labs suffer this.
And excessive eye drainage. Runny tears /eye sleep
New subscriber here, Love your videos very informative! Love from London 🇬🇧
Thank you 😊
Hello Dr. Jones, really super Tipp's 👌TOP Thank you soooo much. Many lovely Greetings

You’re awesome! 👏🏽 Will definitely be purchasing your 📖. Thanks a million for all of your wonderful videos! 🐶
Thank you so much!
Very useful information 😊
I’ve spent tons of money of meds and products for her ears. They don’t get better. I know it’s allergies. I’ve changed her food. But I’m starting to realize this is bigger than me, she likes to roll around the grass outside and I’m convinced Florida is pretty much what triggers her allergies but unsure how to help her because I can’t move 😂😭😫🤷🏻♀️
When using the cream, do i clean out any access or just leave it? Please advise
I unfortunately got Apple cider vinegar with honey! Am I still able to use this for my dogs ear ?
That's a good point.
Would garlic oil be ok in my dogs ear? I always use fresh garlic in olive or canola to get rid of my own ear infections
Yes OK
How come my vet would never suggest a cream for my Shar pei's yeast ear infections? I know he has the same kind of ear infection that he always gets but my vet would always say to have him tested to be sure then they give me ear drop medication. I have been managing his ears when I put him on a all Natural ear cleaner and he was doing great until the company up the price from $28 to $34 so I tried a cheaper ear cleaner. That's when I thought maybe I should try the clotrimazole cream method so I don't over clean his ears. How many days should I do the clotrimazole cream on his ears?
Another pawsome video! Well done Dr. Jones! 🐶💕Love from Chi💕
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Dr Jones~
I really like your video. It's so helpful and will watch all of your updates. One thing, I have tried to download 4 times your Free E-book and the 3 Videos, have not been successfull in the download. Is not in my Spam folder or my Email. Would it be possible if you can email this to me?
Thank you for helping me with this.

Hi just wondering if I could use a nettle tincture instead of the tea. I have one from St. Francis Herbs (I live in Canada)that we use for seasonal allergies.
Yes
Thank you so much for The info.
You're most welcome, Maria.
I have a 14-year-old terrier Chihuahua mix he had an ear infection with the smell in it for a while.. it was ignored ,now my dog can't hear is there anything I could do...???
Thank you so much for saving me $300 today. I literally already have that 1 % cream in my drawer and I'm going to put it on her right now!
Happy to help as much as I can:)
Is garlic oil ok to use on dog's ears ?
Would you do the green tea and ACV wash after the cream is applied or is it one or the other?
Wash, then cream.
Thank you 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
My dog is 18 years old.
Never ever heard of plucking a dogs ears, Lol. Learned something new. Although I would never do.
My question is how often should you rinse the dogs ears with the green tea n vin? Daily, every other day, weekly or what? Been doing it weekly, it's not working 😢 afraid to over due so that's my question
Following...!!!
So if a dog has perforated ear drums but has an ear infection - can I still put something into his earlobe a solution?

ik this video was for ear infections & it worked for our boy bear. but our boy Kodiak is a 9yo choc. lab who was diagnosed with diabetes on 10/30/21 we can't get him under control he's on 8u vetsulin q12h 1hr after meals. he's on wellness core raw rev with wholesome grains. both boys get fed at the same time but they're both still hungery between meals they grew up free feeding & never over ate. kodiak's lost 20lbs n less than 2months. help anyway u can with what can b tried ,snacks anything.
@@VeterinarySecrets
Thank you so much
Look up vestibular disease or disorder - my dog's been suffering with it for a couple months now. She has the head tilt and stumbling/falling at times. We're treating her for dizziness with meclizine but I suspect it's an inner ear problem because she has been rubbing her ear on the floor and scratching at it.
THANKS
Happy to help!
What if it is a yellowish discharge
Dude you are awesome , thank you.
