IMO the bad audio quality gives this a unique sound, as if it has been in use for many years, or was in the nuclear fallout, it ads some authenticity to it I feel
Great job man, love it. The fact the knob controls something and the light switches is amazing. It wouldn't have been as cool if it was strictly touch screen. Keep up the great work.
+GamerGuy I do still sell the kits for people to build their own, but I do not put them together. The detail packages do not include the price of the cast (cast prices are near the top of the price page).
Cool as a fairly authentic replica but I'm wondering about a smaller, lighter-weight version put together from a Pi zero and the screen with the header removed and possibly direct-soldered. I may have to give it a go.
something like this would come in handy in case a zombie apocalypse were to happen. Though you would need a lot of straps for your weapons like your rifles, and pistols/ revolvers. plus a backpack for Food, ammo, camping supplies, compass, bathing supplies and so on.
Is there any way to make the volume run off a dial also? I just bought the 2000 Mk VI kit and am planning to modify it with a raspberry pi. I want it to work with the dials that are on the pip boy and leave the touch screen out, I am doing this for a more accurate pip boy.
+Jamie Crotts Sure, here's a link to the same one I used (you can find them all over ebay): www.ebay.com/itm/1PC-New-3-5mm-Portable-Speaker-Stereo-Mini-Speaker-Player-for-iPod-iPhone-MP3/311475095775?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140602152332%26meid%3Dc15b26b9cfee44f7a9f9c34cba362fb6%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D131521423000

I was actually thinking about making one of these is there any way you can give me pointers or even better if you recorded how you built it id be very interested in reading and doing this
Hello Skruffy Studios im interested in buying one of your pip boy 3000 empty cases but I need to ask you some questions before I do so I know which package would be best for me, I believe package 2 but anyways, I hope to hear from you soon, I was ready to give up on my pip boy project until I seen you sold the empty cases! thanks guys
+dajcarroll30 I found them at a local Fry's. They were in the LED section. They were expensive for such a small thing, but they fit the cast perfectly.
I've been trying to make my own interface for a while now. However, I don't think I got a good touch screen (Barely ever works). I had used a Kuman 5" touch. Anyone else had problems with it?
+CelluloidHoax Yes. Initially I was using two 4900mAh 18650 batteries, but when I switched to a pair of 9900mAh batteries I got more than 7 hours of runtime on a single charge. This will likely decrease over time due to the nature of rechargeable batteries and this was with the sound turned off, but I was quite happy with it.
I do still sell the kits (www.etsy.com/listing/155661101/fallout-style-pip-boy-3000-replica-resin) and the UI is an available option (look for package 4).
Please does anyone know if this man is still making these????? I think my dreams have just been crushed... I've been looking for a Cosplay/LARP alternative for the Bluetooth from thinkgeek, and so I'm looking around and this video restored hope just to find his Etsy shop is inactive and I'm not sure he still does this work... Please Skruffy if you can respond!!!!
i would love to do this myself if i had any idea where to start and what all exactly id want in my pipboy considering i want it to replace my smartwatch. that way my partner can have my galaxy watch and i can wear a pipboy everywhere lol seriousness
Hi! I'm looking into making my own pip-boy, however i want it to be able to play "Holotapes" A.K.A. I would like to be able to inject code so that it can run something like an ATARI Emulator for the holotape games so that it's able to be played straight from the pip boy and that a usb would be a collection of "Holotapes" (Atari roms that would be compatible) Please reply as soon as you can
Did you compile the image yourself or use one you found online? I am undertaking the same project with a few "Improvements" and am having trouble finding a good starter image.
Neither; I used a pin & hinge method on the bottom. You can see the hinge in the video (below screen at bottom of the prop). When I pull the pin, the two halves of the hinge separate and it opens. It's easy to access while wearing and it is incredibly secure so it is my method of choice for these.
Awesome ! Love the design and CRT glass. How did you get the software to work ? Whenever my Pi boots, it just goes to a black screen with the mouse in the middle with sound, but when I exit and type in the command for the Pipboy it works. It sucks having to use a keyboard and mouse to do this, and on top of that there is an annoying bar at the top saying Pygame window whenever I open the Pipboy script :/ how did you do it ?
+Skruffy Studios Oh man I'm so sorry, I have no idea why I thought you had a CRT glass screen, sorry about the confusion. Well my real question is if the software you used in this build is avaliable for download. I know that there is one from Selectnone on bit bucket, but I have no idea how to program to have all the sub menus like the stats and SPECIAL's to show, all I have are blank sub menus but I would love to have everything looking like an actual Pipboy (: thanks !
+Sanchees3 No worries. No, the software for this isn't freely available - I got it the kit from piboy.org. I didn't do the programming (I'm more artist than programmer) so I'm afraid I can't help you with the technical stuff.
hello i am trying to make a pip boy out of a raspberry pi i want it to look like a pip boy with the green screen little bursts of static running down it all that stuff but i want it to be a on board computer like i can still use it like a raspberry pi if anyone knows of an OS like this for the raspberry pi PLEASE let me know
the shity speakers are what makes the old days so good
you mean the future?
@TheOnlyGondonka 500 The year is 2077 all the speakers suck...
IMO the bad audio quality gives this a unique sound, as if it has been in use for many years, or was in the nuclear fallout, it ads some authenticity to it I feel
maybe THIS is the best homemade PipBoy I saw the last few years, keep up the good work, produce more
A little late but you should check out your geekfix
@@pepto843 never too late for PipBoy :D

I see your charisma is low

jk, this is awesome!
believe me or not, I saw geiger counter somewhere for raspberry pi :D
then the masterpiece will be completed :D

Great job man, love it. The fact the knob controls something and the light switches is amazing. It wouldn't have been as cool if it was strictly touch screen. Keep up the great work.
the new fallout looks amazing

I'll give you $175.00 U.S dollars for the thing either by mail or paypal
+Skruffy Studios u are right:-)
+GamerGuy I do still sell the kits for people to build their own, but I do not put them together. The detail packages do not include the price of the cast (cast prices are near the top of the price page).
Holy shit, this is amazing!
I love the sound quality. Its beautiful. Ill be making something like this but I need to get a shell or something to house it
This is the best pipboy i found uptil now (dec-2019)
That's very kind of you to say, thank you!
Cool as a fairly authentic replica but I'm wondering about a smaller, lighter-weight version put together from a Pi zero and the screen with the header removed and possibly direct-soldered. I may have to give it a go.

[Speech 67%] man, only if you could sell this to someone. I really like it.
I know this is old but it would be amazing if you started to produce these and sell them online
something like this would come in handy in case a zombie apocalypse were to happen. Though you would need a lot of straps for your weapons like your rifles, and pistols/ revolvers. plus a backpack for Food, ammo, camping supplies, compass, bathing supplies and so on.
I guess im too late to ask if you have any more of these kits

Hi there! Just wondering where I could get the software to run on the pi for my own pip boy! Thank you!
Very nice, I dropped him a line, have one of the locked up Bluetooth pip boys stuck on the initialization screen, and one of these would fit nice.
I know it's been like 8 years but is there still a drive or a Github with all the project files?
I would contact ZapWizard, he’s currently the best when it comes to pi pipboys
this is so freaking cool. Good job mate :)
Dude, your links aren't working. How can I get a software image? Please help me.
DAMN IT! i thought i had an original idea!!!!!!
+VaperRST Lol there were a few people. As far as I know the project started out here www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=16335
Do you make these?
You mean your arm _is actually in that?_ Technology, man.
A question:
Whith what program do you configured the Pip Boy ?
Well you can take my suite at Tenpenny Tower and also 5000 caps for this, how does that sound?
Is there any sort of tutorial out there to make one of these?
could easily sell these, specially now when fallout 4 is out, and they have their own but they look plastic. this one looks freaking awasome.
the raspberry pi needs to come along way to have 34k ram lol
Do you have plans for the Pip-Boy 2000 kit?
I NEED that software
Anyway to get just the raspberry pi program used? Wanting to do this with the pip-boy 2000 kit
No, I don't believe the programmer has any plans to release it.
@@skruffystudios3537 that's a shame, would of been a nice add on for my project lol
Need to add the screen static and screen wobble. I have to ask do you walk around with it on??
I'm happy with it as-is. I do wear it when I'm in costume - otherwise, no, it's a display piece.
Where can I find the image file for the pipboy software? And are you running rasbien?
would you make one of these to sell?? if so how much would you sell?
i want to know how much to custom this!!! That's awsome
I'd love to make my own if you still have the code somewhere
To be honest, the lo-fi speakers and amp make it much cooler.
Are you still selling this? The pricing button does nothing on your page.
Do you have a video showing how to put it all together if you buy the package deal? I'm interested although I'm not very handy.
Video, no. But I have a picture album/step-by-step here: facebook.com/pg/SkruffyStudios/photos/?tab=album&album_id=428655677338112
Skruffy Studios thanks! I have a couple people interested as well as myself
Awesome! Shoot me an email or FB message if you need more info.
will do!
i kind of want to make something like this but i have no clue where to start on coding and doing switches
I’m buying this this Christmas
It's funny that it was impossible for them to make smartphones but we can just BARELY build their Pip-Boys
Can you tell me specifically what part you used for the "small sound amp"? I'm trying to figure out what to use in mine for sound. Thanks!
+Jamie Crotts Sure, here's a link to the same one I used (you can find them all over ebay): www.ebay.com/itm/1PC-New-3-5mm-Portable-Speaker-Stereo-Mini-Speaker-Player-for-iPod-iPhone-MP3/311475095775?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140602152332%26meid%3Dc15b26b9cfee44f7a9f9c34cba362fb6%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D131521423000

Did you post the STL any where?
This is from a time before 3d printers were used for everything. None of this was 3d printed, so no STL.
Where can I buy this...
Where do i get the operational system?
What did you use for the led lights? I can't find these caps anywhere.
+dajcarroll30 I found them at a local Fry's. They were in the LED section. They were expensive for such a small thing, but they fit the cast perfectly.
+Skruffy Studios Thanks. I have a Fry's close. I'll check there.
Can I use the software only using the touch screen
I've been trying to make my own interface for a while now. However, I don't think I got a good touch screen (Barely ever works). I had used a Kuman 5" touch. Anyone else had problems with it?
Does it have to be plugged in for the Pi to work, or does it have some kind of battery?
The Pi needs 5V power from a micro USB plug. I use a portable cell charger.
could you make a video going more into depth? like a view of the whole thing and how to turn it on and off?
Would it be possible to use a battery that can last longer than 3 hours?
+CelluloidHoax Yes. Initially I was using two 4900mAh 18650 batteries, but when I switched to a pair of 9900mAh batteries I got more than 7 hours of runtime on a single charge. This will likely decrease over time due to the nature of rechargeable batteries and this was with the sound turned off, but I was quite happy with it.
is there a program for a mark 4 pipboy? just curious
Do you sell the kits still? And does the electronics/functioning UI come with the kit?
I do still sell the kits (www.etsy.com/listing/155661101/fallout-style-pip-boy-3000-replica-resin) and the UI is an available option (look for package 4).

Did you compile the image yourself or use one you found online? I am undertaking the same project with a few "Improvements" and am having trouble finding a good starter image.
A friend who is a professional programmer did the coding from scratch, I believe.
Would love a kit of this for raspberry pi 4. Would definitely drop some cash for it.
does it close using a latch or magnets?
Neither; I used a pin & hinge method on the bottom. You can see the hinge in the video (below screen at bottom of the prop). When I pull the pin, the two halves of the hinge separate and it opens. It's easy to access while wearing and it is incredibly secure so it is my method of choice for these.
i seen the hinge but couldnt work out the other side, i thought maybe you were using magnets
Wow, really cool gadget. What I'm interested in, is the software. Is it custom built for Pi or is it available for download somewhere?
+Baalaaxa I didn't do the coding, but yes it is custom built and not open source.
