    • @tonyh6438

      SeahikerVideo does it make a difference if your hands are at stomach level or chest level when you're doing this.

    • @SeahikerVideo
      @SeahikerVideo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not much. Most likely you'll feel more lift/support with your hands at chest level. But it is more likely that you might hunch your shoulders too much with the hands higher. Try both and see what feels best and what gives you the most lift. As you get better (or experiment), you'll more naturally move your hands on demand for what you need in terms of support. You can try small sculls (less range of motion) or larger sweeps of the hands. As long as you create pressure, it will work. Biggest tip is to be sure to bend the elbow rather than keep arms straight.

  • @PhuongFULL
    @PhuongFULL 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Pls make a video to use the legs: treading water

  • @TDZone70
    @TDZone70 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I can't wait to try this! I can't scull yet, but I can sit in the water and spin my self to the left or right similar to the way you did at the end of the video. Can this type of movement be considered "partial" sculling? Maybe I can find a way to transition the feel of that type of movement into "full" sculling.

    • @SeahikerVideo
      @SeahikerVideo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One way to learn the sculling pressure required to keep you afloat is to try and spin in circles (staying in one spot) with both hands. But you can definitely try to use only one hand. You just might be underwater.... and that's okay as it will still help you. Just do it for 10 seconds or so and then rest.

    • @TDZone70
      @TDZone70 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean that I would try to spin circles in opposite directions at the same time and the opposite motions would keep me in place?

    • @SeahikerVideo
      @SeahikerVideo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not quite, first, whether you spin or not (as an exercise) it is common for people to drift forwards or backwards (most common). Spinning helps to develop awareness of staying in one spot. Secondly, turning effectively will tend to help you develop the sculling/hand skill you need to keep your head above water for regular treading water.

    • @superrookie-1
      @superrookie-1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend learning the buoyancy first then treading water, so you can get a better understanding of how treading works.

    • @ShawnFumo
      @ShawnFumo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not an expert but my understanding is the more air in your lungs the more buoyant you are. And the better you are at treading, the more it also raises you up. So I think many people settle on breathing in and out while keeping some air in the chest without fully exhaling. And you can scrull a little harder as you exhale and less hard as you inhale to keep your height more stable.

    love your videos. They've helped me out so much on swimming. Is there anyway you could do a video on keeping water out of your nose ?

    • @1houndgal
      @1houndgal 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blow air out of your nose gently, whilst keeping your mouth closed (try humming as you do this if you need to.
      Other option is a good nose clip. Especially helpful learning to do (underwater/while on your back dolphin kick)flip turn . Or learning to do the suicide turn. The nose clip helps when you are learning to do reverse summer sault/pike.

  • @CAPS_AMERICA

    would you suggest learning by using feet and hands first, or just purely hands? I'm doing both feet and hands by mimicking standing breast stroke, but it's quite tiring and I don't last long...

    • @moviearchives9613
      @moviearchives9613 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll tire quickly if you are a beginner but after practising it for a few days, you'll be treading water much longer. And also its hard to tread water in shallow waters due to low upthrust force. Try doing it in a deep end and you'll see how effortless it is.

    Hi Sea Hiker . Thanks for all the vid;s..... I'm learning late in life on how to swim and all Your vid;s are a great help . I feel more confident every time i get in the water . I'm to the point of free style after 2 trips to the pool . And am working on smoothing out my breath and stroke technique . Sometimes good and sometimes bad . Buts that's O.K. .The more practice the easier it seems to get . Again thanks for the Vid's ......
