Note: I covered the original version of this back in 2020, but it's just had a big update with some gorgeous new visuals, some fun new additions and a familiar looking secret level! The video features 100% playthroughs of both levels.

I love how well thought out this is, it isn't just some dumb "mario but with a gun" joke but an actual concept for how a mario game could work as a first person shooter. I hope whoever is working on this decides to make it its own thing, because it could definitely hold up on its own and probably make an interesting game.

This is surprisingly Nintendo-like
As in, this feels like something that wouldn't be outlandish to find in an official game if they got creative
It would be interesting to see how you could change the gameplay with other characters (e.g. Luigi could shoot faster, Yoshi could shoot eggs, etc)
How about giving Luigi a vacuum that grabs/shoots out enemies and sticks to walls? (Good against flying enemies like Lakitus or Boos)
Similarly, Yoshi could eat enemies and throw strong eggs, but would have smaller range/ammo. (Good against bulky enemies like Koopas or Chargin' Chucks)

Honestly they could, and it would sell a lot they just most likely hate too new ideas. The deepest they will probably go is the rpg route. An open world mario rpg game would make millions

i'm grinning ear to ear. i read "mario first person shooter" and expected a gag game, and i would have loved that, but this is really cute and well done.

Yeah, I love it! It feels exactly like what you'd think an official Nintendo Mario FPS would be like if they ever made one. One of the most wholesome FPS games I've ever encountered. :)
I like that Mario stays true to his italian heritage and caps the knees of trees that don't want to pay up for coins, truly mob-style
Absolutely love your unique intros, it really shows you put more effort than just recording footage
So nice to have a wholesome Mario fangame that has heart and soul put in it.
My favorite part is that it's still safe for my kids to play. So it's a good introduction to the FPS world without the violent parts.
There's also Mala Petaka, a Mega Man like FPS designed in GZ Doom Engine
Slime rancher is also a great game to get used to fps controls. Also, check out Island Saver. If they don't mind some cartoony monster enemies they might like it.
This feels very genuine in its presentation. I could easily see this as something made by Nintendo.
This really does feel like an official Mario game.
This gives me Metroid Prime vibes and I'm lovin it.
If anything it shows a Mario FPS COULD work, especially with a weapon that fires plungers

Reimagining 1-1 as a 3D FPS/platforming level is a really great level design exercise idea and the dev pulled it off beautifully.

This is way too cool!! Would be so awesome to incorporate some kind of multiplayer mode amongst the characters like a tag game. Other add-ons for the cannon can be like the water cannon from Super Mario sunshine to put out fires on stages and a grappling hook of some sort to climb across obstacles. Super cool tho!

Someone actually got the Super Mario license from Nintendo to make this game? This game looks very fun and 1 to 1 resemblance of the actual Mario games.

I don't know why but the game feels like those "gameplay" trailers that are actually animations ment to look like someone's playing the game
The first part just seems very "rehearsed". The person playing likely just played It so many times they do the same thing over and over every time.
ABG says he plays the games before to shorten the time of the video (which with all the backtracking and getting lost can take a lot of time), but otherwise plays the game in an exploratory way, looking around, reacting to jumpscares, twists etc.
The map feels like the green hill level in sonic adventure 2, but with Mario's 1-1
