Destiny really did Cagalli dirty. She was strong and amazing in Seed. But here in Destiny she was overthrown by ministers and all she did is cry and put herself to shame. Even Athrun left her for Zaft. Poor Cagalli.
Well to be fair in Seed she was more or less a free kid but in Destiny she had become the leader of Orb and thus couldn't just abandon her people (all the time) to try and fight on the front lines.

ORB is a nation of hypocrisy in Seed and Destiny. Shinn's anger may have been misguided but ORB is no saint either. It's sad that despite the years, the kids who watched Seed/Destiny has not aged past the whole fanboyism these 2 shows caused. Rey was also a wasted character with potential too as well as Lunamaria who could've played a bigger role in pacifying Shinn's conflicted feelings but she became a side piece in favor of more Lacus and Meer screen time.

There are both good people and bad people in each factions, thats why people dont hate factions but hate individual characters. The orb's actions you pointed out is cause by that spoiled kid in power(forgot his name) when the Cagali group lost the political war, the rest of orb army have no choice but to comply cause army hierarchy and stuff till Cagali took back the political power. Shinn basically just rages from episode 1 to the last episode, which is still fine imo but he points his rage to the wrong targets and do stupid things(yes, stupid things even if you took in consideration that he is a raging kid in puberty). Take Stella death for example, instead of blaming/raging on Neo for not keeping his promise to keep her away from fighting, he blames it on Kira. It is things like this that adds up together and make people hate him.

If "Fields of Hope" was playing during Takemikazuchi's final moments (todaka and the soldiers' scene), it would make it more mournful but hopeful cos todaka even in the end never lost his faith in Orb's ideals and beliefs. That is why despite how many years has this been since childhood, I never fail to remember his character. And his dialogue is well-crafted 🥺 1. I'll carry out your order to destroy the Minerva, to the very end. I will also take full responsibility for the ships and soldiers lost. After this, I'm sure the whole world will hear of Orb's bravery! 2. You are all to leave this ship as well. That's an order! Not for Yuna Roma, but to protect our nation! 3. If you've decided to sacrifice your life then take those who share your beliefs and go to the Archangel. Im sure that someday they will find the right path. Then I loathe Shin right after.
I think ‘Tears’ is better because Todaka was the one that helped Shinn with his tears but in the end, Shinn was too blinded by rage to even notice Todaka. That’s why after the sad scene, it cuts to Cagali crying and Shinn’s scornful expression. Hate it when people say SEED Destiny’s writing is bad; Shinn is SUPPOSED to be a brat.
Kira and Cagalli's "intervention" is what made Orb double down on destroying the Minerva, so I think the disdain is justified. Not to mention that he circled back and started disabling their remaining weapons, which is pretty crazy considering he knows that doing so is a guaranteed death sentence for the entire ship.
Kagali just kept crying and did nothing. She should’ve returned to Orb long time ago to minimize all these casualties, instead of crying inside a Gundam and do nothing
Cagalli was trying her best to prevent the war happened but nobody listened to her. But,some Orb's forces from Yuna's forces agree what she said. For example, Amagi and his crewmate went to Archangel not to Yuna's side.

As the leader of a country, leaving the country leaderless for too long will undoubtedly cause a lot of problem. I understand Kagali didn’t leave the country intentionally and it was urgent. But returning to the country should always be her first priority, staying outside Orb was such a risk that allowing enemies inside the country to easily manipulate the army to go against you. You don’t have to foresee the future, to predict what will happen when people like Yuna, people who never agrees your idea, took over the control of the country. Things just went opposite from where you wished it goes, unexpectedly. I agree that she tried her best to let Orb remain neutral but failed, she also tried her best when staying in Archangel. But the point is she can’t do much in Archangel, she shouldn’t be staying there for that long, Kira kidnapping her to leave the country was just a temporary and unplanned solution, to prevent her getting married at that moment. She still has to find a way to reclaim her leader position anyways, and none of these happens until episode 40, it was way too late in my opinion, too much allies were killed by friendly fire and those lives didn’t deserve to die.
That would requiring starting a Civil War at home, which Cagalli does not have the stomach to do. Look at how she basically has a nervous breakdown from a few ships getting destroyed, she'd never be able to order an attack on Orb itself.
I honestly don't understand why Cagalli is trying the same thing again when she could've just strolled back into Orb and smacked some sense into Yuna. Heck, the whole rollback on her character is pathetic. From a resistant fighter, pretty good pilot and strong-willed woman to a literal damsel in distress who gets thrown around by random extras while aboard a vastly superior MS. She has done nothing in this show so far besides cry. And talk once in a while, to no effect whatsoever. This isn't the same character who confronted Athrun twice and made him realize he was in the wrong path, who fought MS with cars and rocket launchers, who went into Seed mode, fought and survived the last war. Plus, Shinn really does like to murder people who've already lost, huh. Some MC. Someone should give him a medal.
formally, Orb hasn't lost yet at that point. their flagship, Takemikazuchi was still there, with no sign to surrender or retreat or whatever. in fact, Todaka said that he would carry the order to destroy the Minerva until the very end, so that everyone would know Orb's bravery, or so he said. Talia even pointed that why would a carrier Ship moving front coming up to them like that. the Impulse destroying Takemikazuchi is something that everyone on the scene already expected, even Todaka himself, because it was his own decision. yes Orb basically has lost from our point of views, but it was completely different for the people on the scenes. for Todaka to take the responsibility with him politically the Takemikazuchi needed to be sunk, and Shinn was just happened to be the one to fulfill the role. the others would probably do the same if they could. saying "Shinn really does like to murder people who've already lost" is a far stretched over-exaggeration. aside from that one time when those EA people slaughtering civilians, he doesn't really go after retreated soldiers, otherwise he would've sunk those Orb soldiers who later would join the AA. in fact, when EA retreated after failing to ambush Minerva on Orb's water, he didn't go after them or the Orb's territorial defense force. you might as well say that to the EA that stole the mass driver and killed many opened arms losing soldiers in SEED, refusing to take them as prisoners.
We'll,.. it seems Cagalli cant go back to ORB immediately like nothing happened (kidnapped on her Wedding and meddling in the EA vs ZAFT battle). If you want to blame someone, blame Lacus for injecting the statement "1st decide, 2nd do it" to the twins.
Return to Orb? Note that This battle is happening in Crete near the Middle East. Orb's homeland is near Guam in the pacific. It would take days for the Archangel and Cagalli to return to Orb. And it would also take another couple of days or even weeks to diplomatically pull out of the treaty with the Earth Forces. You're also forgetting that the Seiran's are Blue Cosmos/Logos supporters who are friends with Djibril. Things won't be as easy as "smacked some sense into Yuna".
It does seem kinda ironic that the Minerva can withstand so much damage in this episode taking so many hits from the determined Orb murasames and still come out damaged but fine, but in the final episode it goes down pretty easily.

@@bluenicholasbf2142 Battleship technology doesn't really improve much, in any Gundam and in most respects Minerva is superior to AA. It has a smaller target profile, can sweep in it's wings to make it even smaller and can retract it's bridge deeper into the hull, while AA's still exposed to enemy fire. AA's only superior in that it can submerge and be used as a submarine which gives it an insane advantage in fights over water because nothing that can seriously damage the ship can hit it down there while it can fire it's railgun's with impunity (which is a new feature it was upgraded with between Seed and Destiny and not part of it's original design) and that it's helmsman, Arnold Neumann is one of the best in the franchise who's far better than the one on Minerva.
Now I agree with Athrun, and I think Cagalli and Kira are extremely naive if they think they can swoop in and stop the battle just like that. That was pretty...dumb. I don't think Orb is some sort of saint, or whatever, but c'mon, why are people defending Shin? Because he's a tragic character? I understand the criticisms of Orb and its political leaders as hypocrites, particularly because of the Seiran family being Logos supporters, but Shin is just as big of a hypocrite. Kira and Archangel literally saved Minerva, and Cagalli is broadcasting a plea for Orb forces to pull back and stop fighting...and what does Shin do? Shoot Strike Rogue just because...he hated her for being a naive idealist. She wasn't a threat, she wasn't firing at him, her allies even saved the Minerva, but instead of focusing on the threats (like Murasame and the Abyss), he decides to switch targets and shoot her. Like, what the f, dude? And this is the same guy who defied orders to save Stella. So you forgive Stella for killing Heinze and attacking the Minerva and Zaft forces multiple times because you're in love with her, but you're going to kill Cagalli just because she...was being a naive idealist? How does that even make sense? A lot of the decisions the characters make in Destiny just aren't...logical. Not just Cagalli and Kira, but Shin is the worst of them.

well that's the point and the message of most gundam shows. war is bad period. and he didn't know and that also the beauty of it. people should sort things out through dialogue rather than pull triggers. thats the essence of this series.
That's basically because it's shinn's character. He's an unredeemable villain who is designed to contrast Kira's kind-hearted and balanced approach. It wasn't the series going downhill, it was showing who the real villain here was.
Shinn acted on an angry impulse? It’s almost like his character is based on that. Characters in this show have Gundams based on their characters - Kira fights for freedom from war, Athrun fights for what he believes is justice, Shinn fights on Impulse and is the key to Destiny
that's the diff between Zaft and Kira. Kira's fighting/killing is to protect while Zaft's fighting bec they're ordered to. Don't really like how they portrayed Kagali here in GSD, she cried a lot, more than Kira in the GS.

Think about what they've been doing since Junius 7. Due to where they've been ordered to go, they've been surgically devastating enemy strongpoints and assets behind enemy lines. They're presented as obstacles to Minerva, superficially similar to what Archangel faced with its desperate flight home in Seed, but the reality is the ZAFT ship is being pushed into the obstacles can eliminate them as a one-ship-army. Captain Gladys has even said on a few occasions that she doesn't know why they're ordered to go where they're going. While yes, the Alliance started the war and swung first, but Durandal knew it was coming and is manipulating the Minerva and its crew to achieve his own goals.
He lost because during his meeting with Kira it gave him doubt. He wasn't entirely sure if joining ZAFT was the correct decision after that. But it seems Kira lives up to the name of ultimate coordinator in GSD anyways. He's fighting like 1v100. In Gundam Seed though, Athrun was clearly the superior pilot compared to Kira.

In this episode, Kira is angry which is why he completely disarms Chaos and Savior

Let's count the number of Character Assassinations so far. 1: Waltfield (Stupid jumping to conclusions around the “assassination” attempt.) 2: Cagalli #1 (The Cagalli that wanted the treaty.) 3: Captain Ramius (She's met Talia, knows she's a good woman, and yet does nothing. A bit more subtle than the Cagalli ones.) 4: Chairman Durandal (Cartoonishly evil) 4.5: Miriallia (Sort-of, because of Miriallia’s quite stupid statement about rejoining the Archangel crew.) 5: Cagalli #2 (The Cagalli that does nothing but repeat herself and cry.) 6: Shinn #1 (Yes. Shinn's first character assassination has already happened. Just a few episodes ago, he was heartbroken to fight against Orb. Now, there's no depth. He just hates Orb. Not a hatred specifically against the ones who burned it, the Athhas, but against Orb itself.) Guh.
Jesus man they keep rehashing the same character conflicts over and over, its like grade school morality in a show thats trying to be adult and serious, but the characters act like mentally stunted children too.
In the end, what KIRA wants is to endure damage between the Earth and ORB forces and to retreat, avoiding battle unconditionally? Earth forces and ORB forces attacked first to surround and destroy Minerva. However, our great hero KIRA neutralized Minerva's defense by retiring the stupid ATHRUN who could not even speak. However, the Earth and ORB forces did not receive any checks from KIRA while attacking Minerva. It was just a video with a stupid script.

I'm confused with the ships beam weapons...they're supposed to be unaffected by the wind, hence, expect sure shot. So how come they always miss? They are not hitting targets that are mobile like MS, so I wonder why can't minerva or archangel just hit all the targets once they've locked on target.

This series could have been saved with just a few small changes. Keep Shinn as the main character. Keep Kira dead after the fight with Shinn. And oh yeah, let genesis(2) destroy Orb in the last episode.

But the point is she can’t do much in Archangel, she shouldn’t be staying there for that long, Kira kidnapping her to leave the country was just a temporary and unplanned solution, to prevent her getting married at that moment. She still has to find a way to reclaim her leader position anyways, and none of these happens until episode 40, it was way too late in my opinion, too much allies were killed by friendly fire and those lives didn’t deserve to die.
Shinn was right to criticize Cagalli. She was naive to think that such empty words could make people stop fighting.

I honestly don't understand why Cagalli is trying the same thing again when she could've just strolled back into Orb and smacked some sense into Yuna. Heck, the whole rollback on her character is pathetic. From a resistant fighter, pretty good pilot and strong-willed woman to a literal damsel in distress who gets thrown around by random extras while aboard a vastly superior MS.
She has done nothing in this show so far besides cry. And talk once in a while, to no effect whatsoever. This isn't the same character who confronted Athrun twice and made him realize he was in the wrong path, who fought MS with cars and rocket launchers, who went into Seed mode, fought and survived the last war.
Plus, Shinn really does like to murder people who've already lost, huh. Some MC. Someone should give him a medal.

formally, Orb hasn't lost yet at that point. their flagship, Takemikazuchi was still there, with no sign to surrender or retreat or whatever. in fact, Todaka said that he would carry the order to destroy the Minerva until the very end, so that everyone would know Orb's bravery, or so he said. Talia even pointed that why would a carrier Ship moving front coming up to them like that. the Impulse destroying Takemikazuchi is something that everyone on the scene already expected, even Todaka himself, because it was his own decision.
yes Orb basically has lost from our point of views, but it was completely different for the people on the scenes. for Todaka to take the responsibility with him politically the Takemikazuchi needed to be sunk, and Shinn was just happened to be the one to fulfill the role. the others would probably do the same if they could. saying "Shinn really does like to murder people who've already lost" is a far stretched over-exaggeration. aside from that one time when those EA people slaughtering civilians, he doesn't really go after retreated soldiers, otherwise he would've sunk those Orb soldiers who later would join the AA. in fact, when EA retreated after failing to ambush Minerva on Orb's water, he didn't go after them or the Orb's territorial defense force. you might as well say that to the EA that stole the mass driver and killed many opened arms losing soldiers in SEED, refusing to take them as prisoners.
We'll,.. it seems Cagalli cant go back to ORB immediately like nothing happened (kidnapped on her Wedding and meddling in the EA vs ZAFT battle). If you want to blame someone, blame Lacus for injecting the statement "1st decide, 2nd do it" to the twins.

Return to Orb? Note that This battle is happening in Crete near the Middle East. Orb's homeland is near Guam in the pacific. It would take days for the Archangel and Cagalli to return to Orb. And it would also take another couple of days or even weeks to diplomatically pull out of the treaty with the Earth Forces. You're also forgetting that the Seiran's are Blue Cosmos/Logos supporters who are friends with Djibril. Things won't be as easy as "smacked some sense into Yuna".

It does seem kinda ironic that the Minerva can withstand so much damage in this episode taking so many hits from the determined Orb murasames and still come out damaged but fine, but in the final episode it goes down pretty easily.
In the final episode it was fighting against akatsuki, and archangel, and archangel is either stronger or equally equally equipped as minearva

@@bluenicholasbf2142 Battleship technology doesn't really improve much, in any Gundam and in most respects Minerva is superior to AA. It has a smaller target profile, can sweep in it's wings to make it even smaller and can retract it's bridge deeper into the hull, while AA's still exposed to enemy fire. AA's only superior in that it can submerge and be used as a submarine which gives it an insane advantage in fights over water because nothing that can seriously damage the ship can hit it down there while it can fire it's railgun's with impunity (which is a new feature it was upgraded with between Seed and Destiny and not part of it's original design) and that it's helmsman, Arnold Neumann is one of the best in the franchise who's far better than the one on Minerva.
Now I agree with Athrun, and I think Cagalli and Kira are extremely naive if they think they can swoop in and stop the battle just like that. That was pretty...dumb. I don't think Orb is some sort of saint, or whatever, but c'mon, why are people defending Shin? Because he's a tragic character? I understand the criticisms of Orb and its political leaders as hypocrites, particularly because of the Seiran family being Logos supporters, but Shin is just as big of a hypocrite. Kira and Archangel literally saved Minerva, and Cagalli is broadcasting a plea for Orb forces to pull back and stop fighting...and what does Shin do? Shoot Strike Rogue just because...he hated her for being a naive idealist. She wasn't a threat, she wasn't firing at him, her allies even saved the Minerva, but instead of focusing on the threats (like Murasame and the Abyss), he decides to switch targets and shoot her. Like, what the f, dude? And this is the same guy who defied orders to save Stella. So you forgive Stella for killing Heinze and attacking the Minerva and Zaft forces multiple times because you're in love with her, but you're going to kill Cagalli just because she...was being a naive idealist? How does that even make sense?
A lot of the decisions the characters make in Destiny just aren't...logical. Not just Cagalli and Kira, but Shin is the worst of them.

That's basically because it's shinn's character. He's an unredeemable villain who is designed to contrast Kira's kind-hearted and balanced approach. It wasn't the series going downhill, it was showing who the real villain here was.

They're presented as obstacles to Minerva, superficially similar to what Archangel faced with its desperate flight home in Seed, but the reality is the ZAFT ship is being pushed into the obstacles can eliminate them as a one-ship-army. Captain Gladys has even said on a few occasions that she doesn't know why they're ordered to go where they're going.
While yes, the Alliance started the war and swung first, but Durandal knew it was coming and is manipulating the Minerva and its crew to achieve his own goals.

I'm confused with the ships beam weapons...they're supposed to be unaffected by the wind, hence, expect sure shot. So how come they always miss? They are not hitting targets that are mobile like MS, so I wonder why can't minerva or archangel just hit all the targets once they've locked on target.
