Loads of games had these wee rumours going about as we didn't have the internet then. We did have it, but it was very basic and not as informative as today.
If you havent played the games in the FF7 Compilation (or at least follow the story), there will be some things that will be new to you (in addition to the new timeline stuff).

Rebirth is far better than remake. Remake had so much filler in it and should’ve been a 20 hour game not a 40 hr one. Plus rebirth giving you the freedom to play how you want makes it far more fun to play. Remake was a 6/10. Rebirth is easy 9/10
got a ps5 just for this. agree with most of what you said, but you are 100% right with how they messed up the ending because of how needlessly convoluted it was. instead of having an extremely emotional impact, it instead it leaves the player thinking "huh? wtf just happened?" while fighting the final boss.
Finished the game just now. What a game. Took me around 80 hrs. Have never seen a game with such high quality production (been this long) Those who complain about the graphic have not play this game. Thid is hand down top 3 most graphical game on ps5. Whoever finished the game can tell u. Still blown away how squareenix manage to make this game.
Totally agree about the ending. The entire story and plot development is very well explained up until the ending chapters where it is so implicative in a way that basically just verbally spams a jargon and lexicon of “destiny intertwined with fate”. The annoying part is that there IS reasoning for this, the game just takes a turn in its final moments of not explaining that in a down to earth way.

Dunkey nailed it best in his review of ff7 remake. "In the OG you grind the combat to get to the story, in this game you grind the story to get to the cool bossfights" and its no different here. 9/10 combat with 5/10 story. Especially the 3rd act just gets so conviluted and confusing.
But it's not the ending. It's the second part of a trilogy, and so if you're left with a cryptic conclusion to this second part, that isn't really a demerit in my opinion. What really matters is how the game ends up being as a trilogy.
As an FF7 fan I’m happy you gave it a 9 but that was a shitload of problems you had with it. You guys had essentially 0 problems with Persona 3 Reload and that still got a 9 as well

Rebirth is a great game for sure but how come nobody talks about all the constant pop-in, frame rate issues, the crap lighting, the textures being rough. We bash other games for this stuff but this game gets a pass.
Without spoilers the ending is still pretty much the same, just a lot more confusing and they don’t let the emotion of what happened hit the way it did in the first game

Let me sum the experience up for ya. Great voice acting, great gameplay, graphics, and music. World is fantastic. The story is horrendous rotting dogshit that spits in the face of every single piece of FFVII that came before this, from the original to Remake.
9 is generous. After putting just over 140 hrs into the game, I’d give it a 7 at most. The world feels empty, the story was convoluted with a horrid ending, and the battle system felt like a chore only after about 10 hrs in.
I'm hoping we get dedicated side missions for each character that rewards the player with a particular double tech materias etc. It would serve the game well be a be a breath of fresh air if they were each well written and unique a la mass effect.
Such a well written review by someone who played the original, understood the themes of the original and how it carried over to this remake. A rare W for ign. 👍

Scores are coming in at 8-9. Multiples sources say it's the mini games that take away from the pace and the ending is a mess.
8 is the lowest recorded score. It's mostly 9s, and 9.5s. Some 10s. Out 40 reviews only 2 gave it an 8. This game seems like a 9.2 or 9.3

Let me sum the experience up for ya. Great voice acting, great gameplay, graphics, and music. World is fantastic. The story is horrendous rotting dogshit that spits in the face of every single piece of FFVII that came before this, from the original to Remake.

If you want to play mini games with a final fantasy 7 theme, this is the game for you 😒 oh, and there's a bit of story content too.
9 is generous. After putting just over 140 hrs into the game, I’d give it a 7 at most. The world feels empty, the story was convoluted with a horrid ending, and the battle system felt like a chore only after about 10 hrs in.

I'm hoping we get dedicated side missions for each character that rewards the player with a particular double tech materias etc. It would serve the game well be a be a breath of fresh air if they were each well written and unique a la mass effect.
