  • In our second video dedicated to understanding the art market, we focus our attention on NFTs, the newest direction in selling and buying art. Or is it art that is being sold and bought here? NFT, which stands for non fungible token is a technology, allowing to add uniqueness to digital art but is not limited to that. How are NFTs going to change the way we appreciate, collect and preserve art?

    It is amazing and fascinating for our generation to be able to witness the way the world is changing and evolving into the future...the video is interesting and very well presented! To me ownership of art and appreciation of art have little in common; I think art is to be accessed and loved by absolutely everybody who is interested in it regardless of whether they can afford to possess it in any shape or form.. 🤟

      Thank you, I fully agree! NFT is not about art it is about virtual money changing hands.

    Enjoyed your video. An artist can use photos of their artwork as note card prints, coffee cup prints, calendar prints, poster prints... so there can be added income from a single artwork other than only the original. A photographer earns income from the images sold, so why not artists.

    Very timely. Well sums up various readings I’ve done on the subject over the last year, and yet, like you, I still don’t totally get how it adds overall. Still, I do like the idea that art resales as well as original sales can be contracted to benefit the artist-and it seems to have sparked interest in art in general and opened doors for some … not sure it’s an interest direction that dovetails with the overarching creative priority of Saving the Planet (which every field of endeavor needs to come together with urgently as an all-hands-on-deck red alert), but as you said … we’ll see. It’s definitely a multi-layered conversation. Thank you for adding to it so thoughtfully.

    I commented, but my comment disappeared because it contained a link. You can find it in your dashboard probably, if curious.

      No, unfortunately it didn't appear in the dashboard either. TH-cam keeps changing things in the background. Thanks anyway. :)

    Thank you for your explanation, although I'm not sure I'm any the wiser, but then I'm about the same age as yourself, perhaps I better watch it again. It must be like conceptual art, a form of conceptual finance.

      You are on the right path, it is all about virtual money changing hands. The whole idea about NFT is so bizarre, it borders with the unconceivable. In one of the articles I read they called it a "bragging right" which comes closest to my understanding. Why pay for such a thing is another matter ... In Bulgaria, the coun try I come from, we have a saying that "the fool is not the one who eats the pie but the one who gives it to him" :)

    Is this the digital version of the Emperor's new clothes? Frankly, it beats me.

    • @artunplugged
      @artunplugged  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is bizarre and hard to grasp indeed. There is a huge NFT community of people who are into creating, buying and collecting these things, a parallel world, with its own venues, forums and all. Butu mind you, there are people who live most of their lives glued to a screen and do not care much about the physical world. For them a NFT is far more valuable than, say a painting hanging on a wall they do not even notice.

  • @redfuzz5

    NFTs are not about ownership. They are about community, cultural belonging and expression. Don’t try to think of this as a digital version of the physical paradigm of Art ownership. Think of it as a participatory cultural investment.

    • @artunplugged
      @artunplugged  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      'Participatory cultural investment' sounds a bit too transcendental and difficult to comprehend, especially in view of the huge of $$$ flying around NFT art. And how is physical art ownership and collecting not about belonging to a community and self-expression? Good material for thought either way. Thanks for the interesting comment!

    I still don’t get it 😂… would not NFT be the same like licensing of an artwork?

    • @artunplugged
      @artunplugged  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. Owning an NFT of an artwork does not give the owner any rights over the actual artwork.
