PAULA REGO - A STORYTELLER OR A POET?
Is Paula Rego a storyteller or a poet? This video is about one of the most exciting artists of our time who stands out with her limitless imagination and unique insight into the human condition. She was a figurative and deeply emotive artist who rose to fame at the time when art was dominated by the dry pretentiousness of conceptualism. Although she is lauded for her visual storytelling, I argue that she was more a poet than a storyteller.

The Artist's Shadow - My First Conceptual and NFT Project
มุมมอง 6852 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I announce my first conceptual and NFT project "The Artist's Shadow". It is as surprising to me as it is to you. Making conceptual art has never been my thing (except at the end of my video about it, link below). As for NFT - I AM your grandmother, there is no exaggeration here. And now, coming up with a project that is both conceptual and NFT - must be global warming! #theartists...

It is very easy to think so cynically, but there is no accounting for taste. There is a girl on TH-cam who goes around asking people "if you could have one piece of art, what would it be ? ".. Warhol, Johns, Rothko, Matisse Van Gogh and Munch come up again and again. i never heard anyone say Turner or Degas.

Rego is an artist I've only become aware of recently. When I first saw her work I was totally stunned by its power and excellence. I think she's up there with artists like Louise Bourgois. As you say, completely blows crud like pickled sharks and unmade beds out of the water.

Conceptual art is only about the idea itself (=the art happens in the mind ). Visual aesthetics might distract our minds. Though, I agree that these price tags are counterproductive. Who the heck pays millions for an idea? Hmm? That is also a distraction ( ha-ha).

Art painting should be accessible to all artists, allowing them to auction their work, not just a few manipulated by wealthy elites. Every artist deserves the opportunity to showcase their talent.

Ridiculing something you don’t understand does not raise your opinion to brilliance. It’s ironic that you criticize their notion that concept (idea) is preeminent when you clearly think that your opinion (idea) is superior.

I could care less about what people think. I don’t follow the crowd and each of my oil painting is thought out with a story mostly from nature. I paint from the soul with an intuitive feel in a light hearted way. My paintings sell. enough said.

For artists, the story of basquiat is a cautionary tale. He was chewed up and spit out by the art establishment. The extreme depravity of the scene ended up being lethal. Live fast, die young, leave behind an oeuvre utterly devoid of any aesthetic merit. The cognoscenti meanwhile, will exclaim "ooh"! and "ah"! at what a visionary genius he was, and then peddle his paintings for 100s of millions 30 years after his death. Let that sink in...

Poor Phillip didn't get offered more Bailey's, only more carrot. I could do an abstract painting depicting his disappointment 😂 This video was a fantastic explanation of how abstract painting works. I have been to many 'affordable art fairs' and wondered why some (certainly not all) abstract art looks so commercial and leaves me cold while a painting by Jean Miro can be a whole world in itself. Even though the big commercial painting uses bright quality paint and energetic shapes. And yet, the smaller slightly cracked and faded Miro painting, draws me in. Your video helped me to understand this so much better. Thank you.
