    I did the same thing not too long ago (though not all the patches, just five of them) but it's weird that yours sound different than the ones I made... though I guess I did add my own tweaks to them. I was going to try to do the whole patch book, but like you said, too much of a pain, so kudos to you for pulling it off!

    • @MKDVB
      @MKDVB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, I saw your vid! I resisted the temptation to adjust the patches (& there were some that did sound better to me with tweaks) just for the sake of documentation. However there were a few where I couldn't resist collapsing into mono because the imbalance was too distracting.
      It's also possible I messed up the patching on some (the 1st one I had to redo as I forgot to hit multi trig) as to why they might sound different. And I wouldn't be surprised if there were calibration issues w/ mine.

    • @Genshi
      @Genshi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh, there was nothing wrong with yours, in fact, I think some of them sounded better! But either way, that was awesome that you did all the patches!

      @@GenshiThanks, appreciate the kind words. Out of curiosity, how are you liking that Magneto module now? I bought mine after seeing your vid but after the Matriarch, I never want to patch into the Strymon anymore.

    • @Genshi
      @Genshi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, I don't use the Magneto as much as I should. I really want to get the Make Noise Mimeophon as I think that would be more fun (for my Eurorack setup) but for the Matriarch, the built-in dual analog delays are just perfect!

    "Patching them all seemed a pain when I could just on on TH-cam & hear which ones I liked"
    Exactly, mate - thanks for doing this for us all. It's so great to listen to your demo while looking at the patches in the book and trying to figure out what's going on!

      @@MKDVB Thanks for the info - I didn't know that! What patchbooks has Moog made videos for?
      BTW, I just got the book PATCH & TWEAK with Moog by Kim Bjørn - great read, warmly recommended.

    Great to get to hear all of these! Still, I would definitely recommend sitting down and dial/patch in a few of these sounds and play a little bit along the way, too. It's such a great way to get to learn the instrument!

      Totally agree. Nice as some of these patches are, I've not used any in my own tracks or jams. Assuming you've got one of these as well?

    • @MKDVB
      @MKDVB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I figured someone had already made this video so I wouldn't have to patch them up to hear them. Some of them are surprisingly good & I do think Moog have a modern classic on their hands here.

    Thanks for putting this together MKDVB. I notice with Digital Guitar that my Matriarch makes no noise. Once I moved the two VCA In cables tot he VCA CV in (right below them respectively) I got sound. Putting this here in case any others are having the same issue.

    • @MKDVB
      @MKDVB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for checking it out! Honestly, 2+ years ago feels like a lifetime ... I don't remember if I had similiar issue with that patch but it wouldn't surprise me. Hopefully others can chime in.
      I love the Matriarch despite all its flaws, though it took me some time to get there.

  • @captainkiddoregon
    @captainkiddoregon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yeah thanks for this. The Matriarch is my next Synth purchase. I have the GM and love it but thought this would be a great companion to it. Finally got to mess with one last week end. Really dig it. You inspired me to go ahead and check out some of the patches from the book whenever I finally get one.

    • @MKDVB
      @MKDVB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for checking it out. I really loved the GM but couldn't justify keeping both, though I think it may not be a bad idea. Somehow my Matriarch always gets tied up in a sequence & I need another synth to play over the top! I heard the GM had some nice patch examples in the manual as well ... have you checked those out? I wish I had now.

    • @captainkiddoregon
      @captainkiddoregon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I think I did check out the GM patches now that I think about it. I've had it pretty much right after it was introduced so it's been awhile. I understand that one can't always keep all their toys. You sometimes have to sell one to buy another. We'll see how it goes. Thanks again.

      captainkiddoregon I owned and loved the GM and now have a Matriarch. I think both are destined to be classics and each has its place, but I wouldn’t trade the Matriarch for anything. It’s a beautiful synth.

    I have a Minimoog and a Sub 37, but I’m wondering if that’s enough Moogy sound palette or does the Matriarch fill in unexpected niches? Anyone have all 3?

    • @MKDVB
      @MKDVB  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Depends on how much you like the Moog sound palette. I have a semi-working Minimoog right now and I think for that kind of creamy lead sound, it's pretty tops. Like I've had the Boog D before & I don't remember that sounding this creamy, even though this thing needs maintenance in the worst way and Osc 3 wanders all over the place across all octaves.
      Matriarch can come close but just a little ... softer for lack of a better word. Of course, the Matriarch can do a gazillion amazing other things the Mini can't imagine so it just depends on what's important to your ears. If I had to choose between the two for my studio, I'd go with the Matriarch but that's as much about workflow, money, features, delay as the core sound.
      I've not owned a Sub37 but played one for a bit in-store and I recall the sound being more modern and punchy compared to the Grandmother I had at the time. I prefer the softer sound of the maternal series but I remember being jealous of the bass on the Sub37.
      HTH!

      Never played the Sub37 but do own a MiniMoog and the Matriarch. They are two completely different synths. They are both beasts but completely different.

    Do you recommend buying more patch cables and different sizes? Who makes the best quality cables??

    • @MKDVB
      @MKDVB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely rec getting more patch cables of diff lengths. The Matriarch's pretty sizable & you'll need some length to patch from LFO to delay, for ex. I never really notice any difference between patch cables so I usually go for cheapest ones. I think as you buy more eurorack &/or semi-modular stuff, patch cables just accumulate.
