BMW motorcycles are awesome, but why would you buy a 1170cc bike pushing around 109hp as your beginner bike? Weight is not the problem, throttle control would be the problem. 650cc or 700 is the highest cc bike any beginner should be buying. I know its not the type of bike you are looking for, I think you like the cafe rider type bike but the BMW F750GS is probably the bike you should have started with if it had to be a BMW. Other Cafe Riders (and cheaper) as a first bike would be Yamaha XSR 700, Suzuki SV650 (sporty/cafe mix), Kawasaki Vulcan S, or some thing around those engine cc dispositions.
my first bike but not my first riding one. 250cc dirt bike ect. all the bike you mentioned i dont like. no matter how cheap they are, not my style. again I have friends that rides that started with 1000 plus CC. no issues there.
I passed the MSF, and both knowledge test for Class C & Class M. My DMV only gave a learners permit because I've never owned a drivers license 🤣 I have to take the automobile test to get both lol totally didn't go by the book.
take the MSF course. i highly suggest it. or just take the written test then and practice on empty parking lot that's if you have some knowledge of riding if not definitely MSF course will help you.
I took my test in Fullerton however the video with me riding on the lollipop test is in a MSF course in Cerritos College Parking lot. I would not take the test in Fullerton cause its very tight space. but if you are comfortable with it its a good place

Before you do I would just try it on the weekends. Like Sunday practice before your test. Thats what I did mine and ace it on my test.

BTW I've had 4 cars so who would've known you need a license right lol I juss pay the reg/insurance after that watch my rears
