Michael, please get a sticker sheet sorted so we can support your channel + GSXR restoration. £5 for an array of sticker sizes of your famous logo - who doesn't love a sticker plus we're supporting one of the very best at the same time. Cheers and thanks for making great videos!

Best thing you can do for the Tuono is fit the forged RSV4 factory wheels (10 spokes) as the tuono factorys still come with the heavier wheels youd find on a RSV4RR. Also a good free modification is to remove the riser block for the handlebars and rotate it 180° as it is offset, so you can move your weight slightly forward on the bike which makes it feel more 'nosey'.

There’s barely any difference in weight from stock & the forged, I weighed them, I have them fitted to mine & can’t tell any difference,

I've fitted a set of factory forged wheels to my old GSXR 1000 K4. Love 'em! And a damn sight cheaper than Dymags, Marchesini, etc - lighter than most of them too!

Thanks as always Neevsey. For the Tuono - here are the changes I would make to my E5 Factory
    1. Add more rider programmable modes
    2. Add engine power modes - not just throttle maps
    3. Use nuts and bolts that are more robust and less likely to round out
    4. Change pre-load adjustment ease for the forks - right now it's a right pain the arse
    5. Stylemas and not M50's
    6. Forged wheels as a factory option rather than having to buy a whole new set
    7. Heated grips
    8. Better windscreen - closer to the RSV4 style and coverage
    9. Better plastics and paint finishes
    10. Second radiator fan
I could add more but then again the point is I love my bike - like a second glance each time level of love!
Track days by lap time make sense else there will need to be 10-12 different groups of bike size, "skill" combos. Reality is - as an amateur on on my bike I am likely to be slower down a straight than a 600 or even smaller bike because I lack the skill or the bravery to go full throttle early enough. Same thing entering and through the apex of corners with trail braking etc. In most situations the rapid closing distances are predicated by skill - which is on average predicted by lap times. Of course there are exceptions but I see this as the lesser of the evils.
I think track days will be best served by managing for etiquette and sporting behaviours. Even in a situation where two similar bikes with similarly skilled riders try to occupy the same piece of asphalt, bad things happen if both have taken the Senna quote too literally.

I remember a track day at Rockingham, where the “novice” group had beginners riding touring bikes mixed with very experienced riders on racing superbikes with track fairings and tyre warmers. Needless to say it was carnage and ended in the air ambulance picking up some very hurt riders. I left by lunchtime as so many dangerous moments. Reckless by the event organisers looking to sell slots in groups no matter the danger.

I remember at Donington, mid 2000's pit lane exit marshal was stopping people going out, as the organiser had over sold the event so badly. That not everyone could go on track at the same time (people had paid).

I would love for the answer for the track day problem to be, just have more track days put on. Maybe a 600's only day and a 1000's only day etc. But I can't see that happening. If your going to try track days, just pick one track to do, and go there a few times. Your confidence will grow and you will get a better understanding of how it all works and you will get better, the more you do them. I could only image what people thought about me on my first one 🤣

As a '17 Tuono Factory owner and someone who works on thier own bikes a lot, the biggest thing I would improve with Aprillia is their build quality, there is way too much variation from bike to bike, and reliability isn't the greatest.

Best mod i did to mine (apart from the gabro remap and exhaust) was installing a brembo rcs17 corsa corta. Greatly improves brake feel!
Other good changes were removing the exhaust servo and carbon canister which block the radiator and cause overheating.

Track days at my local Hampton Downs NZ we have four groups novice for first timers no matter what bike size and speed is controlled by travelling marshals anyone getting to keen is blacked flagged and told to go home and they have 2 briefings during the day, then slow medium, medium fast and race with marshals throughout the groups if anyone is not performing to group speeds they get moved and no sud 600cc in the race group

As you say, the best way, if still imperfect, is to use transponders and rebalance the groups by times. Almost all operators here in Spain do this. In the UK, they could just not publish the times to avoid the insurance companies considering the event to be a race or time trial.

The Tuono would benefit from significantly better fuel economy, where it's noticably much thirstier than its rivals --- even when cruising and slabbing --- and concomitantly slightly larger fuel tank.

      @SteveInskip 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Surely nobody buys a Tuono for its fuel economy? I’ve got a Morini Corsaro 1200. Had it 10 years. There’s a little light comes on and I fill it up with petrol. I know roughly what it does to the gallon and roughly what mileage I can get out of it between fill-ups. If I was bothered about fuel range and economy I wouldn’t have bought a Corsaro.

    • @dickiemcgeezacks9458
      @dickiemcgeezacks9458 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

It'd be nicer if you knew what you were talking about. The MT-10 has worse fuel economy in every aspect. And that's the new one with the slightly longer gearing not the older MT.
As stated, the V4 Street Fighter is quite a pig, too.
Furthermore, on the slab I've gotten 170 miles at 60 MPH out of a tank on a '17 TV4.
While that's not great, it's respectable. To your point I have gotten as low as 110 miles out of a tank. For the earlier V4 1000s it's even worse.

Could not agree with you more on the Tuono. For the road it is still the best. I have the standard version which has the same engine ,frame and brakes but is a little more road friendly with higher bars, a more protective fairing and screen and a pillion seat with a useful grab bar. It is by far the best bike I have ever owned and I have been riding since the late 70's. I have had FZR's, YZF's, GSXR's, ZXR's, an RC30, an 851 Ducati and a ton of other bikes over the years [decades]. The engine is easily the best sounding on the market and the way it delivers it's power and corners is just sublime. And in my eyes it easily looks the best. The others look a little plasticky in comparison and don't get me started on that hideous front headlight setup on the new KTM SuperDuke. Anyway mate thanks for another great video. Keep em coming.

Hi Neevsey. Love the content & your words of wisdom, keep up the great work. Here's a question you have never been asked before. I've recently imported some 90s bikes from Japan, two of them are a couple of the "Zane " Laverdas from the mid to late 90s. A ghost 668 & the fully faired water cooled 750S. At the time of release I lived back in my native Scotland & remember the terrible reputation these got along with numerous engine & electrical woes. I got the pair pretty cheap & have found them both reliable & huge fun, both have the best suspension & brakes around at the time. I realise this is before you joined mcn but wondering if you have any experience riding these back in the day?
    Cheers Andy, Melbourne AU

As an owner of a current generation Tuono V4, much of the nit-picks and criticisms voiced when compared to its competitors can be addressed via aftermarket options. Don't ask me how I know haha
I would say the way Aprilia can improve the Tuono is by making it even more of a value via enhancements (e.g., more efficient engine) and new features (e.g., heated grips) while maintaining the current price.
It's such a good platform for the money that it wouldn't take much to keep it a strong competitor.

Great "podcast" as usual. Thank you very much for the time you spend doing these!
I have a Monster 821 (stock, Showa non-adjustable suspension) and I love riding in the twisties, but I was considering the 1200S just to have the superior adjustable suspension. I do mostly street riding on the mountains, I don't really care much about the extra power to be honest, but if the handling gets better, I'm up for it! I was considering upgrading my 821's suspension, but to be fair, the cost of the upgrade I can just get the 1200S, and have a more valuable bike for the future.
What's your opinion on premium suspension for road riding? Or is it only worth if you trackday often?

Enjoyed this Q&A as always. Your passion for the GSXR750, The Aprilia Tuono and Yamaha T-max are clear are there any other bikes you love as much as these 3? I have to mention like you I will never own a tall rounder or adventure bike because of noisy screens. I had a Versys 1000 for only a few months and just couldn't cope with the noise from the screen and had to sell it. I also tested a Triumph Tiger sport 660 and the screen noise was the biggest reason I didn't buy it. I'm surprised more testers don't notice this.

The track day question is a proper pickle. I worked my way up to the bottom of the fast group over 20+ track days in the uk and Europe with various bikes with different hp. My last track bike was a gen 2 s1000rr. Obviously anyone should ride whatever they like but jumping on a new ish 1000 and then doing your 1st ever track day…. Hmmm I’m not sure that’s the wisest idea and could possibly end up in a bit of a mess! I haven’t been on track for over a year so a bit out of the loop 🤷‍♂️

    Josh from spain once again!
Just a quicky. I am torn between the new rsv4 (non factory) Vs the zx10 R (not RR).
Key things: reliability, power ( I understand that the v4 might pack a a bigger punch) but what about the upper rpm?
I do road/trackdays in Spanish countryside if you know what i mean.. i have experience riding 1000cc but i would like to buy something new and it's very difficult since the famous aprilia has the technical gremlins... Or maybe not.
(Shame no new gsxr have been released otherwise for me thats a no brainer... Loved the l7 l8 and so on really Torquey...)

Neevesy: Really enjoy your videos, and have watched your answers to track questions with great interest. Wanted to get your thoughts on a couple things. First, faster and slower bikes mixing: My experience is limited, but seems to me that the big "traffic" issue IRL is less about the ultimate cornering performance of (say) an S1000RR vs. an SV650 than it is inexperienced riders who can't come close to max cornering on the S1K--braking super early, taking poor lines, tiptoeing through, and accelerating late--nonetheless hammering it on every straight (aided by TC and wheelie control). As the inexperienced guy on the liter bike, my personal rule (one I think should perhaps be universal?) is very simple: If I've been passed by a rider who obviously has more corner pace, I don't re-pass that rider. Anybody can open a throttle; I'd rather hang behind and learn what I can.
Second, track day formats: My preferred track runs two groups, A and B, on Saturday. Two sessions per hour instead of three. Yes, it means more skill differential on track, but it also means more track time for everyone, proportionally fewer out laps, less hurrying, and fewer people on track at any given moment. Then, on Sunday, it's one big open session (with a lunch break). Everybody runs together. Sounds like chaos, right? It's not. Because there's so much more time available, fewer bikes are out at once. The fast people get through the slows with no problem and clear off. Passing is polite. Having experienced a more "traditional" setup at a different track, it's striking to me how well this works in practice--and how few accidents there are in comparison.
That said, there may be some issues that allow this to work: 1) Fairly tight track with a relatively short straight (best riders on fastest bikes hitting 140mph), no terrain, excellent visibility; 2) Track is relatively isolated and seems to draw a more serious and experienced crowd--fewer squids. Price may be a factor: maybe 30% more expensive (but very worth it, IMO), and anyone who's new to the track has to take a half-day of very good instruction. Sorry for the long comment/question.

Recent subscriber, loving the chat. I’ve just bought a KTM RC 390 for track use here in the UK. I checked with a couple of organisers before buying that it would be acceptable and got the nod. I was warned about closing speed by one though so the problem is known.
I’ve done loads of track days in Spain and was a fast intermediate group guy on my D675 a few years back. Want to get on track again and the KTM is a very cheap, very accessible way to do it I thought.
Is the RC 390 and the hazard of inexperienced riders too big a risk in your opinion?
I know what UK track days can be like (especially compared with Spain), I plan to keep myself out of trouble!

Great video as always. I have a tire question. Been meaning to get new tires for my v4 Tuono - mostly street riding with an occasional track day every now and then. It has become a bit hard to compare the options - when watching reviews, every model has great grip, great flickability etc, which I dont doubt. However, I would like to hear what sets them apart. I am interested mainly in Rosso Corsa 2 and 4, Michelin Power 5/6, Bridgestone S22s, that kind of category if it makes sense. Maybe others too if you can elaborate. Thank you!

I have not ridden with the rosso corsa 2, but have with the power 5 and s22. For me it is more about the feel they give me. The carcass from the power 5 is alot softer then the s22 wich gives you a plusher ride on the road but gave me less feedback on track. Hopes this helps.

hi,,, with regards to modern day electronics,,I own an M1000r , I cant clutch up wheelie but the m1000 pops the front wheel for fun on the power without even trying as you likely know,, my question is can I rely on the anti wheelie to hold the from wheel at a height or is it still likely to flip,, I cover the rear brake just in case but I don't really have the confidence or knowledge to lean on or trust the electronics,,,cant I trust the electronics??
awesome channel by the way with real world advice

Hi Michael, thanks for all the great content as always. My question is regarding the Triumph Speed triple RR. I read in the recent MCN that it is going to be discontinued and there are several in dealers with loads of money off. Since this bike has been a bit of a flop, do you think it could be a future investment and be worth keeping for a few years if you could get a really good deal on a nearly new / used bargain? Cheers, Dave.

I don't think any one answer would fit, for how td groups should be set out. In the early 2000's, supermoto's started to turn up at the smaller tracks, Cadwell, mallory etc. The closing speed was off the chart, then they carry all the corner speed. Even back then a supermoto group was talked about. It never happened. The only way it will, is if people stop going to them and the organisers have to create something to get people back to them. Less than 100 bhp group could be one way. Road bike only days have been tried, then it just ended up full of track specials. All of it will only be as good as the people setting the groups and making sure it's stuck to. The interesting one I've seen recently, was the classics only days that 44teeth attended.

Hi Neevesy, love the vids! I have a question about helmets!
I have an AGV K5S for the track at the minute since i damaged my last arai after a highside, however I'm having awful trouble seeing out of it when tucked and leaning! Its so bad at full lean I struggle to see the apex and end up with a sore neck, which really doesnt help my riding, what helmets would you recommend for racing? not looking to spend a fortune on one but need a much higher field of view! Thanks

Thanks for your efforts with your channel. What’s your opinion on carbon fiber wheels for a dedicated track bike? I have a 2020 S1000RR M-Sport which came with factory carbon fiber wheels. After crashing the bike, I converted it to a full time track bike but quite a few of the serious racing types have told me I’d be better off with forged wheels. Even though I’m now in the fastest group, I’m not a racer so I listen to the advice of those who are, but I am yet to hear a reason why I should spend another $4k on wheels.

    For the Tuono:
Design a proper mechanism for the rear seat cover/pillion seat. They are known to fly off on their own so there’s no way I can strap a Kreiga to it when I’m commuting to work. I have the harness for it but I can’t trust it.
While you are at it, give us a little space for storing something, even if it’s a little.
Lacquer the decals so. That it feels less cheap. Especially for the factory.
Add heated grips and sort out the switch gear. It’s a mess.
The dash is ok but the menu system is awful.
Why do we have to have a chain that has only 20mm of movement (top run) when properly adjusted? It feels like a guitar string and messes with my head.

GSX S750 Question if you dont mind pal. Finished paying for my 2021 s750 and looking at my next bike. I love the s750 so much as can really use it on the roads. Thinking of upgrading to the GSX S1000 as its such a bargain but not sure if i like it as much as the 750. 1000 is same weight just an extra 40bhp and a quick shifter. Will i love the 1000 as much as the 750. Had a few rides on the 1000 but not long enough with it yet to make my mind up. mans torn lol

Anyone who is pushing top of inters and into fast groups should have the experience and ability to be able to deal with other riders who have less experience or who are on slower machinery. They are the ones who should be setting the example to everyone else on track etiquette.
The main danger on track is when people ride above their ability or start taking unnecessary risks when overtaking, but thankfully this is a rare occurrence.
Anyone with less track experience should aim to be the rider they want to ride with, we all know those people who are fun and safe to ride with, try to be that person and you can’t go far wrong.

Nah, don't need to split track days by bike performance. It's actually quite easy not to be an idiot and drive in a proper manner. Instead, increase the punishment of people who fail to abide by track rules. The "fast boi" knows when he is bullying and scaring the slower ones, just as the dangerously unskilled rider also knows that he is attempting a maneuver waaay out of his league. They really do know this in their heart of hearts, it's just that society has done away with accountability and dignity.
