  • The Ford RS200 is a mid-engined, four-wheel drive sports car that was produced by Ford Motorsport from 1984 to 1986. The road-going RS200 was the basis for Ford's Group B rally car and was designed to comply with FIA homologation regulations, which required 200 parts kits to be produced and at least one road-legal car to be assembled. It was first displayed to the public at the Belfast Motor Show.

    All of my favorite authors write out short stories! Hoping there are some more of these. It's a shame we never got that car here in the USA, but it would have gotten banned as people would be quickly separating themselves from their lives. Speaking of which, I've always marveled at how so few spectators get killed in rallying considering that they are the guard rails.

    • @cmartin_ok
      @cmartin_ok 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rallying spectators tend to be highly knowledgeable about rallying, and know where to stand to avoid being hit by wayward cars....but with our over-zealous Health and Safety Brigade, yes it is puzzling how they have not yet shut down rallying. Let's hope we can all enjoy our rallying for many years to come

    I led a team of guys at JQF engineering in Towcester England, we converted the cars( the balance of the 200 built for homologation) to road car versions and I unfortunately had to test drive each car, a great experience. JQF also built most of the engines, each engine had to be Dyno tested and results supplied to the new owner of each car. This was way back in the mid eighties.

      It's quite a well known fact that Reliant built the bodywork. They were leaders in fibreglass and composite technology back in the day - a lot of their trade was supplying various industries with moulded composite products. It made good financial sence for Ford to outsource the bodywork to a company that had the expertise and capacity to quickly deliver.

With their expertise in fibreglass you'd have thought they could have become the go to company for specialist body shells like for the RS200. If someone had invested in them they might have even been able to develope a modern ultra light car of their own.

    Great video for a great car! Too bad we never got these in the US. Then again, we also didn't get the cool Escorts. How many of the road-going variants are still around? For that matter, how many of the actual Rally models are still out there? I never knew how the drivetrain was set up, but it just sounds incredibly complex. How much did the transmission weigh that it made better sense to be separated by several feet from the engine?

    Facts: @3:00 he explains the two epic crashes, that’s true. I JUST NOW found both videos mentioned on TH-cam.
    It shows the one car slam the crowd from mid-range and bad quality. The other video… Clearly shows him SLAMMING a tree, and the car BURST INTO FLAMES.
    Gave me goosebumps bc it reminds me of the Paul walker crash, yet the driver survived the fiery blaze in the mentioned video where the co-pilot died.
