- The Imperial City Arena is one of the best questlines in Oblivion but the truth is... there is no Imperial City Arena. But if that's true than what is the Arena? And what happened to the real one?

The problem was their where in the wrong folder mixed in with all the Imperial stuff and it took me ages to find them. So I'm honestly not surprised no one realized.

Bethesda is the most unorganized in terms of small-scale teams. The fact that they needed to develop the game inside the actual editor of a game engine shows that they have no awareness of the files and stuff outside of this editor.

@Leon Schuring I think the quests would have been different, you would have less fight in each arena, and we could think that you have to start in a crappy arena, and you finish in the imperial one with the public shouting your name

I really hope eso gets an arena that allows you to challenge players to become champ, and every month or so the champ from each faction competes to win say a 1 week 50% bonus gold for the faction. Also add a betting system to allow an extra bit of income, and to make it fair it can have a similar armor/weapon system so it comes down to skill not who has the best stat roll on the new op weapon.

Fallout 4 was supposed to have an arena too - The Combat Zone, which was sadly turned into a shooting gallery.

Because Bethesda can't handle any script that involves spawning or timing, like think about all the times something should spawn for a quest but it's just *broken*

Teleportation magic was outlawed within the empire as soon as mages made a side business of stealing buildings, one notable example of a stolen building is the chorral arena.

@@Tyler-Hoskins As fat as I know, they actually wanted to make the whole province of Morrowind playable. And the trademark "Morrowind" was registered before they understood they had no time to do so and decided to only make Vvanderfell
At least Tamriel Rebuilt exist. We'll have the entirety of Morrowind, one day.
The Cantina: What happened to the other arenas?
Bethesda: Breton with Imperial voice.
You forgot about the removed Battlezone from Fallout 4, wasn’t Elder Scrolls but it’s funny that no matter what franchise they work on Bethesda can’t figure out how to make an arena.
I thought about looking into fallout stuff but decided to just leave it with Elder scrolls. But that's funny it happened again.
Bethesda really can't figure out how to do ANYTHING. It was cute, until the Fallout bag debacle cost them most of their goodwill.
Really, the fact that the best Fallout game wasn't made by Bethesda should've said something.
I imagine they can figure it out but they just never have the time. I mean when you think about it, the arenas are a bit extraneous.
It would have made more sense to remove the Bruma, skingrad & bravil fighters guild's to free up space. Because unlike all the mages guilds, they aren't relevant to the fighters guild questlines at all.
Not to mention the Bruma's mages guilde is there for a brief moment until mannimarco destroys it as well
Yeah, but there's not much to delete with those buildings. The Arenas are way bigger and have more script and codes attached to them.

Wes Johnson originally voiced the Bretons in Morrowind, and Jeff Baker voiced the Imperials. Baker was supposed to return as the Imperials and Dunmer in Oblivion, but he didn't for some reason. So they got Wes Johnson and Craig Sechler to voice them instead. And since Johnson voicing the Imperials meant that he'd be voicing most of the male characters in the game, they decided to bring in Ralph Cosham to voice the Bretons instead.
its so crazy this game came out so long ago and im still learning stuff about it, different arena's wouldve been a lot of fun but understandable why it was cut.
I can't believe Jauffre used to sound like a guard. Like, I hear the voice, and I see his mouth moving but it's just so weird that I can't reconcile the two.
I always liked the area in Oblivion. When I was younger I was actually pretty sad that Kvatch was the city that got destroyed because I wanted to fight in that area too lol. Hopefully TES6 will have an area or at least something comparable.

Porting a title to a new system usually doesn't involve adding in cutting room floor content back into the game.

Just like how Obsidian Entertainment apparently had time to make all those expansions and other DLCs for Fallout: New Vegas, but have none of them give you the option to play the game past the Battle of Hoover Dam like they originally intended and recorded a whole bunch of post-endgame dialogue for.
Quite frankly, it's Cutting Room Floor content. Bethesda looked at what they had and said "No, this isn't working" or "This isn't what we want." Happens all the time in game development.

So they decided to remove arenas instead of tongs and calipers and all that useless crap. I love Bethesda ❤️
the player needs to be punished for taking EVERYTHING. so they put crap in there to foster a "do i WANT that ?" attitude when looting stuff

I would go to the local library every day after school to watch all the dev trailers and stare at the website.
You can tell that they merged the Chorrol and Imperial City Arenas into one because it has two completely different interiors: the one where you sit down to watch matches, and the one where _you_ fight in the matches. The one where you sit down has two thrones on the opposite balcony from the one where you sit, which the other interior lacks.
The real question is does the yellow team really exists ? •___•
It exists for the sole purpose to offer the player meat to grind.

Despite they're called Yellow Team their Raiment is Green instead of Yellow LMAO if anybody noticed when playing this quests
You can actually keep the Yellow Team Heavy Raiment you can simply pickpocket the Yellow Team Champion Heavy Raimemt and her Steel Axe and Orcish Shield when she sleeps and when you fight her she is naked and has no weapon to defend herself thus making the fight priceless LMAO
Also you can get the combatants loot by doing the Staff Of Worms and Skull Of Corruption / Dead Rising Exploit-Trick

Sadly I doubt the content can be recovered. If it was deleted to save space then it's probably gone. Unlike the stuff for Skyrim Civil war which was disabled due to time constraints.

That is really stupid. If you have all the data leave in the arenas close 'em up with careful hints to the sidequests and sell it 3 months later as add-on. Better than useless horse armor.

The Kvatch arena in ESO is actually a source of a daily quest, where anyone in the town can enter and work together to survive a few waves of enemies. The rewards are pretty good too.

Ill always look fondly on Oblivion's arena as it was the reason i fell in love with that game and lost my life to a series i remember looking on the map and being like ooh there's a big city *hovers cursor over arena district* "arena!" *fast travels and proceeds to lose most of childhood playing Oblivion*

I vaguely remember screwing up my game years ago in a way that replaced the final Breton dialogue with the cut voicelines (done by the Imperial voice actor). No idea how to redo that, but low-key thought that it was some sort of fever dream until you mentioned it.

But remember, that in TES:Arena to save face (and not redo all the marketing) they came up with that "Tamriel is sometimes nicknamed Arena because it's so violent and the gods pit mortals against each other"-thing. So really every TES Game is an Arena game.

@@MeneltirFalmaro Tamriel actually means "Dawn's Beauty". But it's nicknamed "Arena" by its citizens because of how violent and dangerous the land has been.
The arena being separated into different cities would have likely been the same experience/fights, but now having to travel. I'm glad it was centralized to the main city. Having to go to different towns for each match woulda been a drag.

To be honest if Wes Johnson was also voicing all of the Bretons I may have jumped out of a window, so I don't mind that they removed the arenas for that.
My theory is, Bethesda was working on the unused Breton voice lines for their "Breton Voice Lines" DLC, but had allotted much of their staff into optimizing their 5star "Horse Armor" DLC. and man am i glad they did, horse armor is the best

I always wondered why the big Imperial City with a capital C arena looked like it was lifted from a smaller town, like the first arena in Gladiator.
They should have turned them into a DLC.
Bethesda loves that.
In short: Bethesda were too ambitious with Oblivion.
Fort Sutch was originally supposed to be the city of Sutch but that was cut in early development. You can see it on early maps for the game.
Bethesda really has a knack for making themselves hard to love.

Speaking as someone who always beelines to the most magical build possible in any game, they should've cut the first part of the Mages Guild questline instead cus it's utter garbage anyway.
I believe the Arena was picked because it could easily be condensed into one location since it all just takes place in an arena.
IDK, the one where you go into the dude’s dream was pretty cool.
And the one with really heavy ring was as dumb as it was funny.
All the others though, were pretty forgettable. Hence my not remembering them.
I actually like the recommendation quests much more than the 'main' quest. Mostly because it feels more mundane, the sort of thing anyone goes through when joining. I like slice of life stuff in games.

Watch the Noclip Documentary about Bethesda and Bethesda acctually made a making of Oblivion. The Bruma Arena being moed around was just him recreating it with the Construction Set.
I just found out about this by reading the wiki entry for Whiterun, and thought of a sports game set in a fantasy universe, like with players wearing colorful armor and using wooden weapons for safety

I have the Vilja companion mod installed and when I go to the Imperial City Arena, Vilja chats about being in Chorrol. I assumed it was a bug. Turns out this is the reason why! 15 years later and I'm still learning new things about the game.
