    I’m a big KORG fan but have never explored their arranger line. Thanks for sharing this!

      Yes, I am a Korg guy too. I had a MS-20 back in the day. I checked out your stuff and subscribed to your channel great stuff. I have two studios, I will send you the link. In Studio 1, I produce music and edit videos, I now have the Pa5x and The Nautilus 73. In Studio 2, I geared it up to do videos with now the Pa1000 and a Nautilus 61. I was told over the holidays something you probably already know, it is all about subscribers and click counts. So, thats what I am gearing up for to produce more videos. As arrangers go... Sonically they are Ok, the Pa5x does break that rule. But where they shine is their arrangements or backing tracks. Old school, track the bassline, then drums, then guitars and then keyboards. With the arranger, one three note chord will change the whole band. I have some really nice Gibson acoustics. But to mic them, EQ them and record them... hours, minutes with an arranger. With "Heavy Metal Country Boy" I did it live with the Pa1000 doing the rest, controlled by a foot switch. Take care my friend, stay in touch. Check out my Studio Tour video, and also Lenny Kantsingivitch.

    thanks for the video. I'm considering upgrading from a Korg PA-1000 to the 5x..

      I have a Pa1000 and there is a big difference. The OS is a little different, but you'll learn it quickly. One big difference is that the sound quality is so much better. I don't know whether the samples are better or because you now have six outs. For me, L & R are the accompaniments, 1 & 2 are the drums, and 3 & 4 are the bass. I love the PA 1000, but it only had a stereo out. Also, make sure you go to Korg's website and download versions 1.1, 1.2, and 1.2.1 so that you have the best version for your PA 5X. For me, version 1.1 works awesomely. But you want to have all the versions backed up so you can go back to them if you need to. Another thing to remember is that the 61 and the 76 have semi weighted keys, which really plays nice, and the 88 has weighted keys, more like a piano. I have a 76 key, and I like the way it plays.
      So good luck, and I hope you get one.

      thanks for the reply and the info. I'm not getting one anytime too soon - they're costly! - , but eventually. I only do live performance, and would much appreciate an upgrade in the sounds, especially the grand piano. I'm still learning things about the PA1000 but look forward to the ungraded things on the 5x. Do you think Korg will issue a 5x-generation of the PA-1000?

    I have a Korg pa5x and it does feel better then any keyboard I ever played in my life ,,,I also have a Yamaha PRSsx900 and the Yamaha feels like a childs toy compared to the Korg Pa5x ... The Yamaha Tyros 3 I have feels strong well built and sounds great....the PSR is just not built and sounds as good ,,,but I quit playing music cause its all become to hard for me to understand ,,,Im gonna sale the keyboards....I cant do all that stuff ,,,

      Yes, it's a great keyboard, and it can do just about anything. And you shouldn't have any trouble selling it. If you like the feel of that keyboard, the Korg Nautilus is just as good, if not better. And what is up with Yamaha? They have great sounds, but their keyboard bed does feel like a cheap keyboard, I just don't get it. I still have a Yamaha M06, I play it via MIDI with my Nautilus. The Korg Pa1000 is the same way. It's an awesome keyboard, but the keys feel cheap.
      Take care, my friend, and check my playlist on Keyboards. There is a lot with the Pa5x.

    Could you do a tutorial on custom style creation with intro, fills, outro etc.?

  • @midlifefunk
    @midlifefunk ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Any chance you have experience making a song/style or editing one? I have a ton of trouble figuring out how to use the PA5X interface to program a style. I want to create a drum rhythm from scratch and have it have 4 different patterns- then layer on top the backing so I can play over it.

    • @jonmicheals621
      @jonmicheals621  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm going to try and put out a tutorial on that soon. But it is relatively easy. Bring up your style and then push the button on the left called "Rcord Edit." Then the first screen you see will have all the instruments on it. But check the menus to see whether it's an intro, variation, or ending. Push the play button, and you'll get a four-beat count in. Whatever accompaniment you have highlighted, you will be able to record. If that accompaniment is too large, previous info, you might have to delete that track before you record it. You will see that button on that screen "Delete Current Chord Variation." Just make sure the track or instrument that you have highlighted is the right one you want to delete before you hit that button. And remember to save that style when you're done or you will lose all your information. Watch my video on "Korg Pa5x Bugs... Yes or No." You will see a little bit about this.

      Once you fired up the keyboard. Push the "Settings" button on the far right. Then tap on the "Preferences" picture. Then tap on "Files." There it is. If you get lost, you have to hit "Exit" or hit "Settings:, then "Menu."

    Can you program range and velocity setings for the three keyboard sounds that you play live?

    • @jonmicheals621
      @jonmicheals621  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you can. I was able to change the range of the upper three keyboards while the style was playing. Go to Menu/ Keyboard Ensemble/ Range Vel and you should be able to change it.

      Did you go to Korg and download and install the new OS, the latest version for the Pa5x? I took styles from my Pa1000 and installed them on to the Pa5x without a problem. The Pa5x converted them to a psk file.

    The UI is definetly heaps better than the Kronos. They did redesign the Nautilus to at least seem a bit more intuitive but the the basic workflow is still 98% as steep learning curve as the Kronos, I just think they shaved too much of the controllers and buttons and removing the aftertouch 😒 to make the Nautilus cheaper. It's the same keybed as the Kronos. They just omitted 10$ aftertouch strip and ctrl circuit. Actually been thinking of replacing the Kronos2 73 with the PA5X 76 as I don't need the RH3 keys. Only thing I am disapointed at is the 160 notes polyphony. Introducing a new board that is about 10% more expensive than the Genos, and having 2/3 the polyphony is a shame. Can't say anything against the sound quality and styles. They are mostly on par with the 5 year old Genos. And some of the Orchestral sounds is definetly better than Yamaha which I always liked. The SA Sounds is still a bit ahead of Korg, but they moved a big heap in on Yamaha, but Question is, is it enough ? The Genos is still going very strong after 5 years. Worst thing today is finding a local store that have these expensive boards in stock to try them out if you don't want to fly half around the globe to find one. Still a little curious of how much you can do with the PA5X, like how well it is to import new samples .. eg your own sounds for pads or actually importing your own multisamples. The Dual arranger is interesting, but seems more like a gimmick than actually usefull. Seems to me Korg still have some work with the ui. But afte all it is a brand new design. Just hope Korg does a better job supporting this with updates and new features as they did a pretty darn bad job with the Kronos.

      I guess it all depends on what you're going to do with this keyboard. For me, it was about writing and arranging songs quickly. Whether I go back later and actually record the songs with actual instruments remains to be seen because the samples of these instruments in the Pa5x are really awesome. I have no experience around a Korg Pa4x. But I have a lot of experience on my Korg Pa1000. And I will tell you that sonically, overall, the Pa5x sounds leaps and bounds. But the one thing I love about this keyboard is the chord sequence recorder. Check out my video. Just last night, I created a Jam track to work out a new song, and it only took a few minutes to do it

    Korg went too far in editing the styles and sound....I think they went to the wrong path as...being musicians we want to produce music out of the best of sounds and styles and Not to waste time to change elements on the arrangements...some may like this possibilities given by the Korg O.S...but personally I need something really professional in sounds and styles so as to focus on perform in the best way....I had most of the Korg arrangers so far but I think the latest Yamaha Geno's or Ketron Event are far ahead in sounds and styles....and most important everything is excelent ready to gig...no need any modifications....no wasting time but really just practice and enrich our repertorio and that's how it should be...
    my opinion

    • @jonmicheals621
      @jonmicheals621  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I agree there are a lot of things you can change in a style, but after a while, you get to know them. I only use my Pa5x for recording, and I love the flexibility. I have my Pa5x set up so that I can record 6 tracks directly into my DAW. The accompaniments, the drums, and the bass. Of course, I process them differently.
      So, I can write a song in the chord sequencer. Then, play it back while changing the variations and fills. At the same time, I record it in my DAW. I will add vocals or guitar in my DAW later. For me, it was all about the chord sequencer. That was one thing the other keyboards didn't have.

    • @jonmicheals621
      @jonmicheals621  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @vitaliypredoliak2124 It's really not a Chord Sequencer but a Chord Looper, it just shows a list of chords that you can bring up and it will loop them. The Chord Sequencer in the Pa5x actually shows you the sequence similar to Band in a Box, which, for me, was a selling point. Another thing is, when I run video out into a video monitor and tap on full screen on the Pa5x, I can see the whole song, chord changes, and the slashes for each beat. This is great because you can see when to count in a Fill or Variation. change.

      @@vitaliypredoliak2124 Let's face it the Genos has been the industry standard for years. Most of the music you hear in movies and TV comes from a Genos or a Motif 8. But these days it is not about what is best, but what is the fastest. With so many royalty free music sites, us true music producers have to come up with ways to create music quickly, and for me the Korg Pa5x is the best way I can produce sound tracks quickly. Check out my videos and listen, all created within a few minutes with my Korg Pa5x. Take care my friend.

      I have heard that. But I upgraded the OS to the latest version the first time I used it, and I haven't seen any bugs. For me, I mostly use it for the arrangements, creating backing tracks and writing songs. It has great sounds, but I use my Korg Nautilus for that.
