Robb Flynn states:
“I feel like metal could really infiltrate the mainstream with this album. And it needs to... now more than ever. A lot of consideration went into making these songs more identifiable to a wider audience. Simplifying ideas, simplifying hooks, really concentrating on story-telling as opposed to ‘brutal poetry’ or whatever. And while I’d love to say it was all some grand plan, there was no ‘plan’” Flynn adds laughing. “You never know where you’re going to end up whenever you start writing a record... you just write... but I tell ya what... we ended up with a landmark here.
Whenever you finish an album, you always feel proud, but this time... we’ve got something really special. We can feel it. We know it. 'Catharsis’ could really elevate our genre."
Catharsis was produced by Robb Flynn and recorded, mixed, and co-produced by Zack Ohren (FALLUJAH, ALL SHALL PERISH) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA. Mastering was handled by Ted Jensen (HATEBREED, ALICE IN CHAINS, DEFTONES) at Sterling Sound, New York, NY. Cover photography was created by Seanen Middleton.

The one time I saw them was in a fairly small venue and the raw emotion you felt in the building was unreal.

They're absolutely phenomenal and fantastic live. Their sound was incredible when I saw them about 3 years back. They were tremendous and played so many of my favorite songs of theirs. What a show it was.

Hands down one of the best shows I've ever witnessed live. These guys dropped the fucking hammer on S.F. that night for over 3 hours! The mix just got better as the night went on, absolutely crushing set! People were strait shook at the end, it was a pure sonic beat down!
i hope the new album has well-orchestrated violins like this song. It couldve been cheesy, but it came out really great. I still remember catching them in riverside. Place was pretty empty, but damn, when the solo section came on, i remember just standing still in awe watching them tap out their parts in sync

Im into the melodic stuff, but they usually mix it in with really heavy stuff. So im a bit worried about how light itll be! But, rob is a killer writer. Machine head set the bar high for themselves lol
