    Sometimes I look at his photos and can't help but read his expression as like he's just in pain and misery trapped in a mutilated body. Sometimes he looks at the camera and seems just sad and in pain with his expression. Maybe I'm totally wrong though.

    I've been following Black Alien Project for a while, but there's a lot of interesting information here that I hadn't heard before. As for the leg amputation, I seem to recall having seen his plans for his legs, but I don't think they were quite as interesting as the idea that you guys talked about. On the subject of people amputating their legs for reasons other than necessity, I have read of people amputating their own legs as far back as the late 90s. This has been connected to Body Integrity Identity Disorder and the people said that they needed to perform the ampuations in order to feel complete. The first reported cases of this were in the 70s.

    I recall hearing a story of a man who lived a good portion of his life with both legs but his whole life he had said it always felt like one of them shouldn't be there. After asking doctors and plastic surgeons they refused as his legs were both healthy. He took matters into his own hands with liquid nitrogen. I'm sure you can put the rest together lol

      That’s what happens a lot of the time with stuff like this, doctors refuse by the desire doesn’t just go away, and whatever we want bad enough we’ll find a way come hell or high water lol

    • @gabago0l
      @gabago0l ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's a very rare condition called BIID or Body Integrity Identity disorder. People who have this have the desire for the removal of one of their limbs. Interestingly enough, sometimes the desire to remove limbs can "move" to other limbs like if the right arm is removed then they'll want the left leg removed.

      @@gabago0l saw an interesting documentary about this BIID issue, a guy always wanted his leg off, so he did it with a shotgun, above knee amputation - he was when interviewed, some years later, apparently delighted with his new look and prophetic leg.

    Personally I do think people should be able to do what they wish with their body, even if it includes a voluntary amputation. But obviously that's really extreme. There is a condition called BIID (body integrity identity disorder) that causes people's "body map" in their brain to not recognize certain body parts, causing people to desire to amputate limbs. I wonder if this is part of his desire. This is probably not the context for a complex discussion or speculation about that (it's a body mod podcast not a psychology conference lol) but it does make me wonder.

    I just discovered this whole Black Alien Project the other night. I know this video is old, but wanted to give my two cents. Coming from someone who has never even had a tattoo, I couldn't give a $hit less if someone does this. It's something I wouldn't do to myself, but my hats off to him--and others--for doing his own thing. Is it extreme? Of course. But it's not hurting anyone, and the body is just a shell. The clip I first saw of him the other night, he was walking around his hometown with a guy, and some religious lady basically insinuated he'd go to Hell for ruining his body like that. What I find amazing about people who are obsessed with the Bible, is how hypocritical they are, and tend to cherry pick what works for them, and conveniently dodge what they don't like. If the body is a temple, then why is that same person fat? Why are YOU mistreating your body? I could provide a million examples of how people mistreat their body, yet they'll judge him, simply because his choices are extreme to them. Anyway, I find it fascinating, and what would life be with everyone looking the same. BORING!

    I know that this project is something I will never understand. It doesn't mean I dont think he should be able to do whatever he wants with his body but I think it's clear his project is designed to push boundaries in so many ways. Boundaries of what is possible to do with the human body, the line between body modification and self harm, and something I havent really seen talked about explicitly- the uncomfortable area of intentionally disabling yourself. I just came from your first video on him and a thought I kept having was that there are people in the world that look like him but those people are usually burn victims. They are people who have been mutilated or disfigured against their own will. Is doing it for aesthetic reasons disrespectful or is it in a way respectful because it's something many people would feel shame for while he is uplifting this aesthetic? But then again is the branding as "alien" dehumanizing and othering to those who don't have a choice in looking this way? The amputations even further this as he is literally physically disabling himself. Then again does other peoples experiences and appearances even matter in comparison to what hes doing? I dont know if I can truly answer these questions but I'd love to hear input from disabled people about this project.

      It’s the same reason you can’t just drive however you want and crash. Because everyone else has to clean up the mess. When all that shit gets infected and he’s in the hospital he has to be taken care of. Honestly poor guy just wants to commit suicide and he’s taking the long way.

    • @Loulou-ry3yn
      @Loulou-ry3yn ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, your comment was so interesting. I agree on everything you said, on every question you brought up. Being disabled now (yeah I know my profile picture doesn't show it - it was taken 7 years ago), it is hard to see people mutilating themselves and making themselves disabled on purpose. But somehow it is just as hard watching him do that to himself as it is seeing people smoke, knowing they have high chance of developing fibrosis because of it. It can feel disrespectful, as I wish I would have been able to choose.. That being said, I don't think I represent the disabled community so my opinions might be off. And I also don't think we should prohibit these kinds of projects. I do believe that everyone should be free to do what they want of their body. But as you said..if it is a way of doing self-harm, should it be promoted? Should it be regulated by the approval of psychiatrists? Is it a good thing that he calls himself an alien? Wouldn't people who survived accidents/suffering from birth defects feel dehumanised? The subject is so interesting and I wouldn't know what to conclude. I'd love to know more people's opinions on it, i wouldn't be able to make my own as I think it is a subject that requires to be talked about with great nuance

    Awesome video as always! I’m not sure how to feel about the leg amputation idea. With the black alien project I’m basically just along for the ride at this point lol. But I was a little bit jarred by the branding on the head. It seems so…unaesthetic? I’ve gotten that vibe about one or two other mods he’s had done, but in the end they always made sense. But I don’t know about this one.

    • @EphemeralRemy
      @EphemeralRemy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yea for me the branding was a bit of a “buying your own hype” moment, maybe it wasn’t but that’s how I read it, it cheapens the project, but I don’t think in a monumental way, I think I would wake up the next day in a similar mind space of having slept with a woman I wouldn’t have otherwise if not intoxicated “ahh sh1t why did I have so many drinks” it was a chaotic semi nonsensical step for his overall project that seemed a bit spur of the moment for my taste. • @dancingoctopus9888
    @dancingoctopus9888 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    There are online communities centered around people that desire voluntary amputation. And yes, people have gotten entire limbs removed. Sometimes they just don’t identify with various body parts- meaning their brain cant register that its a part of their actual body. Sometimes its fetish based where they want to be incapacitated to whatever degree and there are then counterparts to that of people who want voluntary amputees to be dependent on them. Then there are the people who want someone to eat a part of their body, and people who will do the eating. All kinds of stuff. I haven’t really seen it approached from a body mod aspect though it may be related to the dysphoria type experience some seem to go through.
    I do know that often people do not go to doctors to have these things done. They would just be denied in a regular medical setting. They get creative finding other providers or harming themselves in ways that then demand amputation.
    People are diverse and strange.

    • @EphemeralRemy
      @EphemeralRemy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s the thing, the medical industry has sort of dropped the ball/ failed in a big way in many countries if you ask me. The people who want to do this stuff bad enough will always find a way, and when doctors won’t even perform simple surgeries like tongue splitting on principle alone, it forces people seeking procedures to go to people who sometimes aren’t capable. In black aliens case however his surgeon does seem gifted, and I trust that they’ll do whatever else he has planned the safest best way they can.

    • @dancingoctopus9888
      @dancingoctopus9888 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It’s so hard for me to have a clear opinion. On one hand, people should be able to do whatever they want with their own body. On the other hand, would we would have the same view about someone killing themself or self harm type cutting? I know it’s not exactly the same, but it’s potentially on the same spectrum.
    I think I have a bit more of a reservation about it for him specifically because of the vibe he gives me. I’m in the mental health field and there’s something about him in the videos he posts that makes my little therapist hairs go up. It’s not even his look per se, it just the energy his behavior gives off that makes me feel like there’s something under the surface. Of course I could be totally wrong. Like you said, he’s the only one who knows what’s truly going on with him. If he’s going to start doing bigger and bigger mods, I really hope he uses someone who is a real surgeon and prioritizes safety.
    Also, I totally agree with you about the addiction to cosmetic surgery. Just because it’s not “scary” looking doesn’t mean that plastic surgery is any less of a body mod.

    • @EphemeralRemy
      @EphemeralRemy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s tough because medical professionals refuse these surgeries, so often people seeking them are forced to find less qualified individuals that are willing to do these procedures. That being said I also don’t know what the criteria would be to qualify for this sort of modification even if doctors were on board with doing it, how do you prove your sane and want to remove your legs at the same time to a degree that would make sense to anyone else? It’s a tough grey area for sure.
      As far as humans taking their own lives that’s a huge grey area too i think, some countries do have assisted suicide already, my father took his own life, and the way he did it was much more grisly than it should have been in my view, especially considering he was sort of trying to die for his whole life, you could say his death was his life’s work.

    People I know who have removed their legs without it being a necessity technically, are the people who have body dysmorphia and feel as though they shouldn't have a leg there and they were supposed to be an amputee. But that's debatable because they feel like it's a necessity to make them happy so even though it might not be medically necessary it's necessary to them to feel comfortable in their own body. I have no judgment when it comes to people modifying their body to make them feel happy and comfortable in their own skin. I will see that most of these people cannot find anyone to actually do this procedure for them. Most of them have to kill their appendage to the point where there's no return in order for medical professionals to remove the body parts like sticking it in ice until they basically freeze the body part to the point of death or other types of destruction on the offending limb. So I'm not sure who will do this procedure and my fear is he won't be able to get it done professionally.

    Being trans and having to talk to people about surgeries and the why and how of it all has left me convinced that there's just a large chunk of the population who's outright disgusted by anything that changes/modify the human body, regardless of it's reconstructive or esthetic. Using prosthetics he could traverse stairs, he had to knock his heel on the back of the step to feel the sensation and then step. He missed once and decided it too dangerous to continue walking and relegated himself to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. I'm all for doing what u want with ur body, I was a member of bme and admired Shannon as a kid... But removing perfectly healthy and extremely important body parts is where it crosses the line for me... I believe u should be allowed to do it but I really start questioning a person's mental health and if their doing all this for the right reasons...
    I do think he's doing this project for himself but I also believe their are people out there that will do crazy modifications for the clout and to be the most extreme, I just hope for people like black alien project they don't one day regret their decisions and have to live in pain later on in life because of them...
    And also We can't forget people like the stalking cat who committed suicide and zombie boy is still up in the air wirh his mysterious fall on what exactly happened... Theirs been plenty of lesser known ones too in the body mod community who have taken their lives and its something to keep In mind... Is this purely for the love of body mods and expressing urself or is it a symptom of a deeper problem

    • @Moon_samurai128
      @Moon_samurai128 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing to keep in mind about people like Stalking Cat and Zombie Boy is that they had many many other factors contributing to their mental illness that had nothing to do with body modification. Stalking Cat in particular struggled with their gender identity and was shunned by the local LGBTQ community for years and years, sending them into an unhealthy isolation. Zombie boy struggled with sobriety if I recall correctly. I’m not sure you can say their body modifications can reflect what was going on with their mental health in any way. For all we know, things could have ended the same no matter what they looked like because the problem was always deeper. Even Shannon from BME took his own life sadly, but it’s because he struggled with chronic illness and pain and couldn’t take it anymore (and suicide is common with people who have his illness sadly). I don’t think it’s fair to always speculate that extreme body modification could be a symptom when there are other factors at play. Now, If we’re talking about people with known or diagnosed personality disorders, impulse control disorders, body dysmorphia or body integrity disorder then I would definitely speculate.

    • @EphemeralRemy

      I believe it’s definitely possible, but in black aliens case I don’t suspect depression/ suicidal tendancies, of course he may present well but have deep seated issues, that being said that could be said of many. As far as others looking for clout go I definitely share that concern/ sentiment as I expressed on an earlier reacts, the level were at now with body mods is a scary thing for youth, which is why I often say heavy mods should be done at a later age when we have a clear picture of who we are
