This is how I have always fished Texas rig's and it definitely pays off. I've kinda always enjoyed the slow retrieve because it gives me time to enjoy the environment and get lost in thought.
Been watching since I was in high school, you’ve helped me catch a lot more fish and learn a lot of new/different techniques. Plus you explain in great detail it’s awesome. Keep it up man! Thank you!
I catch more and bigger fish this way. My PB smallmouth, 20inch, was caught this way. I keep telling my son and daughter to slow 🐌 down. I shared this video with them so maybe they will listen to you. Thank you for the great videos.
Hands down the BEST fishing teacher out there. I watch your vids (and have since 2015!) then I go out, do what you showed me AND CATCH FISH. I really appreciate you & proudly wear that Flukemaster black hoodie in the cold seasons. I was looking forward to your subscription website- but you keep teaching and sharing here, so it's all good. Guess what I'm going to take to the lake tomorrow? LOL
Love your videos, always something to learn from you. As a newer angler, I'd love some tips on how long to spend in one spot while working a bank or in the kayak, and when to decide to switch baits. Usually only keep 1-2 rods with me and switching baits often eats into my time on the water. Sometimes it feels like I get to impatient with one bait and switch too soon, other times it feels like I waste too much time on one bait without getting a bite.
So true!! All my biggest is caught working slow. Cast it out, let it sit for 30-60 seconds, slowly pull my rod tip up letting the worm to slowly move on the bottom or even up a bit to give it some tail action, slowly reel in the slack, repeat. If I hit something then I slowly pull it thru and let it sit and start over. All my biggest have been caught this way with senko or craw. Lately I've been diggin the craw 😎
Hi, I watched this video twice and went out bank fishing and I caught 3 bass in 20 minutes. Thank you! This is truly my favorite video on the Texas rig! I really appreciate your videos, they are truly helpful. Best
To everyone who hasn't tried this tip he gave us. I just tried it exactly the way he said to but I added a little shake every once in a while landed me 4 fish and missed 3. 1 of which broke my line where my blood knot was and I casted in same spot and actually was able to get my line back and I was hand reeling a 5 lb bass in but it snapped the hook off!!! This man knows how to fish take his advise
Great advice once again! Giant worms and jigs are my go to here in Cali. This is exactly how I fish and love it. Rewarded with a 7lb 3oz toad this year.
Texas rigged senkos with 1/4oz weight is by far my best fish catching rig that I use. Just cast it out and while the boat is slowly working the shoreline my worm is dragging along the bottom. Perfect for dragging across points in my lake. Super simple to rig and it catches fish. Can’t beat it! Perfect for a beginner
This is legit advice I learned to slow drag during last fall and it caught me some pretty good one's. Pre spawn I caught some awesome one's on a crank burning it banging off the rocks like a fright train. The nedrig, show dragging a craw and the wacky rigged worm is getting me some right now but I don't have giant's in my waters, if you catch a 6+ there you're doing something! Maybe someday I'll get my chance at some huge Bass?!
Need to get back to fishing this way. Spend too much time power fishing and then throwing senkos. Used to drag around black power worms exclusively and break that up with slow rolling a spinner bait. Those were always effective.
Tried this method out using a Texas rig and using a jig, and I caught a 2 lb, 4 lb, 5 lb, and 7 lb bass within 2 and a half hours. Granted the area/water conditions had a lot to do with it too, but still great stuff.
lol you're onto something. I've caught my biggest fish when I throw it and end up checking the weather on my phone or taking a drink. You better believe the phone/drink gets dropped and bam hookset.
Love it...lol. "bow to the fish and give it a couple reels and u gotta set that hook HARD" !! LOL I love fishing a texas rigged senko here in Florida. Great vids!
Most people can't fish like this because it can be very time consuming. But this works, I've caught some of my biggest bass doing this. I actually like it because it gives my elbows a break for a while.
Uber slow finesse fishin is your best friend when ur in pain. I loooove crankbaits but when it hurts to cast, slowin down to a Winter pace is a relief. Slower presentation = fewer casts = able to stay on the water longer. Plus a chance to fool a biggun.
You spoke on something at 3:40 that I have been trying to figure out. I'm coming from a bass boat, just got into an ss127 and my hook up ratio has been aweful. I was unsure if I needed to go with a stiffer rod, or a lighter hook. I do know it's because the kayak gives on a hookset.
I would add the brand of finesse flipping hook is extremely important. I tried the Trokar finesse flipping hook and bent it setting the hook on a 4lb 8oz fish last week.
Caught my PB of 9-9.5lbs using this exact technique. Although I used a pro model spot remover and a brush hog, I pitched up on a bank with structure and slowly drug it into the water and man was I shocked at how gentle the bite was! It felt like subtle resistance, so reeled in the slack and I set that hook and got my arm broke! I’ve never seen a bass that big get air born 2-3 times! The bank had about 2-3 feet of hydrilla growing and I wasn’t about to lose this giant on 12lb mono. Off came the shoes, I tossed my phone, wallet, and keys. I was able to grab her. Man what an experience most people would’ve called me crazy for throwing that fish back! I got my picture and let it live on to make more giant bass!
When I first started texas rig fishing years ago this is how I thought it was supposed to be done. After doing more research I thought that I was doing it wrong all this time. Good to know that I was just hunting for the big ones from the beginning! Ha
I throw a Texas all the time it seems like so many folks have gotten away from it but it’s a fish catcher. On my toughest days I tie one with a Flippin hook, 1/4 tungsten and a rage crawl and can always put some in the boat.
Ive been fishing standup shakey heads with floating tail worms like this for years, I feel for when the bait hits something and ill shake it with super slow retrieve. Ive never thought of using this with a T rig it might not get snagged as easily as a stand up shakey head. Im going to try this.
So correct me if I'm wrong but would a ned rig do pretty much the same thing fished super slow on the bottom but more finesse approach? I have seen ned rig catch numbers and big ones. Any thoughts?
All of my biggest fish have come from that super slow presentation. It is very hard to do but it works. It took me years to fish that slow and still today some times I just can't do it
Hmm this is interesting because I’ve heard that you don’t want big fish to get a close look at your bait but instead you want it to move very quickly so you get that reaction strike. I will try this out this summer but it won’t be easy for my impatient self hahaha
ive been trying so hard this year , gave up the wacky and went to texas rigs .. but man no luck yet .. we fish very over weeded pond and the wacky just get hung up all the time .. but ill take any tips for overly weeded pond on a texas rig .
This is exactly the way my granddaddy taught me how to fish with a classic zebco rod and reel and purple and fire utail worms with two lead shot weights squeezed 2-3” above the hook. And that’s all he ever used. And he fished it soooo slooowwww and caught monsters.
I have a question. On your worm you are using do you recommend using just a regular worm or one with the tail? I notice the one you have here is just a regular worm. Just curiosity as to your opinion on the two different types, same length but the two types. Thanks enjoy the videos!
The way you whipped that net out so clean😂 had to rewatch it a few times
Lol. I’ve been called The Net Ninja.
Dude same .... didn’t even look at it and sent it ... legend
Flukemaster Robby in Texas. Do you catch more big bass in the middle or closer to the bank? Ty
Right! I just commented on that lol
Flukemaster
Yea what kind of net is that, I like that break down kind?
This is how I have always fished Texas rig's and it definitely pays off. I've kinda always enjoyed the slow retrieve because it gives me time to enjoy the environment and get lost in thought.
Fishing all lures except square bill or deep dive square bill are the only lures you fish fast. Big fish don't expend a lot of energy
That net flip at the beginning so so clean
Yeahh
That's what I'm impressed about lol

I am new to fishing and your videos have taught me so much! Thank you!
Tried this on saturday and caught a nice 6 lbs bass in a public lake. thanks for the info Flukemaster
Really enjoy the emphasis on kayak fishing!
That was absolutely helpful! I can’t wait to get on the pond and put this raw knowledge in a cast!! Thank you sir! I appreciate you! BABAAM!!

Good video Gene. Patience is key. Keep it dangling
are you checking where the thermocline is when fishing the bottom
Just got my first kayaks the other day really appreciate the kayak vids
anything in particular for ponds with a silt bottom?
I always enjoy watching your channel! You have definitely helped my bass fishing skills! And just want thank you for that.
Awesome video Gene! You’re teaching me and many others! Keep them coming! Love the videos on the yak!
Thank you for another great video. Headed to Michigan tomorrow for some lake fishing. Can’t wait to try this technique!
Love this video. You gave me such good advice and im catching alot alot more fish now and bugger fish too

That net trick was slick. Nice Bass great video I’m struggling on how to fish Me A Texas Rig very helpful 🤘🏽
could you make a video like this but in a shallower overly weeded pond .. thanks
It is a hard way to fish it. Man It makes me hurt when I have to do it but your right it catches the bigs.
all time fav soft plastic for texas rig ? i gotta go green pumpkin crawfish
Tried this method out using a Texas rig and using a jig, and I caught a 2 lb, 4 lb, 5 lb, and 7 lb bass within 2 and a half hours. Granted the area/water conditions had a lot to do with it too, but still great stuff.
1:37 nice chunk man! Always have a Texas rig tied on the entire year!
I’m convinced this is why my chain smoking brother-in-law catches giants. He is always smoking and not playing with his reel/rod.
Lol
😂
Oh yeah when I go fishin I bring atleast 2 packs of smokes. If I'm not catching fish I'm smokin lol...
This is why I dip and don’t smoke lol

I assume this would apply the same way to fishing in bays like in San Diego. Its kinda hard to go slow when the current is just pushing you.
I would add the brand of finesse flipping hook is extremely important. I tried the Trokar finesse flipping hook and bent it setting the hook on a 4lb 8oz fish last week.

Nice vid and catch my friend😎👍🏼 Greetings from Germany🇩🇪
Great content, I just took 3rd place in my tournament Sunday doing this in 15-20ft of water
I throw a Texas all the time it seems like so many folks have gotten away from it but it’s a fish catcher. On my toughest days I tie one with a Flippin hook, 1/4 tungsten and a rage crawl and can always put some in the boat.
I like that net!
So me and my buddy won 1st place today in a local tournament because I shared this video and was just barely dragging it Ty
Are you anchored when doing this? I couldn’t imagine trying to do that while being blown around? Not a technique for someone with ADD.
I was thinking the same thing... Anchor and ADD! I could never fish like this without being bored, but maybe the results are worth it.
Ive been fishing standup shakey heads with floating tail worms like this for years, I feel for when the bait hits something and ill shake it with super slow retrieve. Ive never thought of using this with a T rig it might not get snagged as easily as a stand up shakey head. Im going to try this.
great vid but how come your gragh is flashing in the background? thanks for the info.
It has to do with frame rates of the camera. The graph flickers so fast our eyes can't see it but it shows on camera.
@@262Fishing not sure about that I've had a graph do that but it was a problem with the linkage
It’s the difference in the frame rate from the camera
@@ifyourasknimbassn8138 that could be, too. But I'm guessing his graph was working fine and it's a frame rate thing
@@Flukemaster ah
Any tips for those of us who fish a lot of silted lakes? Where I’m from, it’s hard to find lakes that aren’t a muddy mess.
The Net! Lmao...that was awesome like a ninja...I might have to get one in those
Can you do this style with any plastic? Or only worms
Almost all catches this yr have been on a Texas rig with a biospawn vile craw... now its hard to throw anything else....lol
Is this a good technique for muddy water as well? Great video!
What type of net is that???
I do this in grass with an unpegged weight and a zoom ol monster. Takes forever but it does catch big fish for me, Reminds me of Carolina fishing
Y
What is the make and model of the net you have on the kayak
That was impressive one handed net catch
That's the YakAttack Leverage Landing Net.
@@Flukemaster Thanks for the info
And thanks for passing your fishing wisdom to us. I know for me it's greatly appreciated
i use this over shallow hydrilla in small lakes in florida in winter also. LEATHAL
This seems almost identical to how I fish a shaky head or even a ned rig... What's the advantage to doing this with a texas rig instead?
Wassup! Thanks for the great videos!!
What are the differences between this and a shakey head? From a presentation standpoint
What size and power / action rod for this?
What are you using to peg your weight?
What depth were you fishing?
What knife is that on your PFD ??
I kinda like to rest my finger on the line as I drag it, it helps me feel the bottom a little more.
So correct me if I'm wrong but would a ned rig do pretty much the same thing fished super slow on the bottom but more finesse approach? I have seen ned rig catch numbers and big ones. Any thoughts?
Following, good question!
Video about bank fishing with lots of Lilly pads
Thanks for the tip man.
All of my biggest fish have come from that super slow presentation. It is very hard to do but it works. It took me years to fish that slow and still today some times I just can't do it
Most of my biggest bass were caught on live bait. Either 3ft below a bobber or freelining big live baits.
This is going to be challenging to be that patient, but you’ve a bang up month!
Are you fishing deep this time of year?
What power rod and line do you use when fishing this rig?
I don't know what net he used I just started yak fishing but I need it in my life!!!AWESOME JOB
It's the YakAttack Leverage Landing net.
Hmm this is interesting because I’ve heard that you don’t want big fish to get a close look at your bait but instead you want it to move very quickly so you get that reaction strike. I will try this out this summer but it won’t be easy for my impatient self hahaha
Flukemaster, I am guessing that smaller fish will bite as well if they are there?
Can you do this without tungsten weights?
Sure, you can use lead as well
What would to the ideal Texas rig rod and reel setup be? I’ve been thinking about getting a new rod and reel just for the Texas rig.
What type of sensitive rod would you recommend?
ive been trying so hard this year , gave up the wacky and went to texas rigs .. but man no luck yet .. we fish very over weeded pond and the wacky just get hung up all the time .. but ill take any tips for overly weeded pond on a texas rig .
Go with a very light weight. 1/8oz You don't want it to sink down into the grass too much
What's the reel gear ratio?
Was wondering the same thing!
8.3:1
@@Flukemaster awesome! Thanks Gene

Exactly
Are you anchored, how deep are you fishing, time of year, water temp??
Depth depends on where the fish are on a given lake. I do this most of the year with the exception of late prespawn and mid to late fall.
So, it looks like you're fishing at least 15' here. You said it works from the bank too. Does the technique change at all for bank fishing?
Slow and steady like a brisket!
Now you’re talking
Flukemaster have you fished the Mann’s Jelly worm? I’m using a MH fast, 15lb flouro, 3/16 bullet weight, #2 offset round bend.
I have a question. On your worm you are using do you recommend using just a regular worm or one with the tail? I notice the one you have here is just a regular worm. Just curiosity as to your opinion on the two different types, same length but the two types. Thanks enjoy the videos!
