I have a Transit welfare van too! Everything worked inside, super low milage too because they just get driven to a sites and then just sit there. I stripped it all out and sold everything. Webasto heater was worth almost half what I paid for the van!! :)
Good waffle. I do remember your cats and forgot about them! I quite like the look of the mobile eye clinic van I saw outside a medical centre once. I bet they come with some home comforts too.
Ex local authority mobile libraries would make a good base vehicle too, usually have 240v electric, hot and cold water and cooking facilities only downside is they’re often over 3.5 tonnes.
I've just bought a LWB hi top Transit welfare van, a 2011 with 145k miles and for £2800. Hopefully the heater, hot water and electrical systems work (couldn't test when I bought it as no leisure battery fitted) but even so I get two extra windows which adds significant value.
Must admit I have always thought that when I convert my (yet to be bought) van to RV use, I would look for a base vehicle that was already insulated and already had windows - simply because the quality of workmanship would probably be better than anything I could achieve. I hadn't thought of Welfare vans but they seem to fit the bill very well.
Re the cubic mini water heater, couldn't you unbolt the stove and turn it 90' or even just 45' so it faces the door and gives you the space at the side still? Enjoy the channel thanks for the entertainment.

If you had a gas system in your van would you travel without turning off the gas at the bottle. My own belief is if you were involved in an accident and the gas leaked and caused damage your insurance would be invalid. Over the years I don’t think I have ever seen anybody advising travelling with the gas turned off ,although I have seen people advise travelling with it on to keep the fridge alight. I had the worn rack ends and shocks/mounts replaced. I still find it a bit stiff and tiring to drive. How do you find yours? The column UJs are pretty good, and Im yet to grease and adjust the rack pre-load.
@BigVanSmallWorld I've had it looked at several times. I'll clean, repack and adjust the preloaded. If there's no change, I'll get the local main dealer to have a look.
Could you not convert a metal Jerry can into a side boiler,if you could get a tap fixed with no leaks and clip it to the burner then sound 🤔 and ive got the exact same burner as yours and i burn coal on it🙆♂️🤣should i not then ive found it burns hotter lol

Spoke to the very helpful Keith this morning at Triflow. He confirmed their system needs a minimum of 1 bar pressure to push the water through the filter. Looks like I'm upgrading my pump etc.
