Hi Dillon, Long story, short version. I am 73 years old. When I was about 15 years old, my first taste of stereo was from an older apple orchardist I wanted a summer job from. When I went into his house, waiting for him to come in and talk to me about the summer job, I spotted something amazing. There on one side of the room sat a turntable (don't remember the brand) hooked up to a glowing tubed McIntosh MC240 Amp...then looking left and right was the holy grail of all speakers ( I learned this later): Two big Klipshorn speakers all wrapped in walnut. He comes in, sees me looking and drooling at his system...says "do you want to hear it?" "Sure do" I says...unbelievable sound came out of those big boxes! There is lots more of my stereo story, but you got lots of other mail to read. After lots of 60's and 70's this and that pieces of stereo gear. Here is what I now have: Speakers: Klipsch Forte ll's and KlH 17's. Amp is a 1964 Scott 299 recapped putting out about 20 watts per side. Preamp is a Dynaco Pat4. Turntables are: Pioneer PL 570 Direct Drive with a Shure V15, and just recently added a Fluance RT85 with the Ortofon 2m blue cartridge. Spinning lots of my old records adding a couple of jazz or instrumentals per week. (BTW, I still have my very first album I bought: "Herb Alpert's Lonely Bull" date I wrote on album cover: April 11, 1966) I love the gear, but love the music more.

A friend in junior high (around 1970) had them in their family's living room. They made a lifetime impression, but I forgot whether they were a custom-built speaker or commercially made. Just recently I figured out they were Klipschorns. I'm hoping to listen to a pair sometime.

Love your whole Mac system! Had a pair of Klipsch Heresys in the '80's and in the mid '90's got a pair of Klipschorns piano black and in a huge room and sounded outrageous! Had them for a decade and moved so would be impractical so sold them and got a pair of Cornwalls and they are perfect for my system and room size! They still weigh 100 pounds each but K-Horns like yours are 180 pounds each! When you get them in a proper room the bass is thunderous since it travels though the walls and floor! BTW the year of my Cornwalls and your Klipschorns is the perfect years (early-mid '80's)since the speakers were much better made and to last! Sound better in those years too! Congratulations on the find!

Super cool! I have a pair of Klipschorns too. They make me feel like being on a concert. Best speakers under 100'000 bucks IMHO. I bought them used, very cheap, and I later found out that they belonged to a friend of mine with whom I was on biketours 35 years agoand who died some year ago. If anyone can't afford the Klipschhorns I recommand the Klipsch Cornwalls. In terms of livefeeling, power, dynamics etc. they come close to the Klilpschorns...wish you lots of fun with your gear, Dillon.

I've been following Devon Turnbull (OJAS) for about a year now and he regularly travels to Japan. He specializes in massive horn speaker systems and vintage Altec stuff. Over in Japan they are putting those beasts in regular-sized rooms and are happy as can be. It's kind of changed my opinion on the "canon" of room size and speakers.

I've always wanted to like Klipsch speakers. I've heard the entire Heritage series. No disrespect, they just don't wow me. I did an a/b between the Cornwall and K-Horn and the ADS 1230 back in '83. No contest, I bought the 1230s. Obviously, it's all subjective, and Klipsch must be doing something right to still be around all these years.

    Very nice gear !!!
One might find - an Audiophile to be a snob !!! Some might be !!!
    I prefer - music appreciation !!!!!
One does not need $ 10,000 or even $ 700 in gear to appreciate the music. True - it will not be as crisp/ clear and or refined as more expensive equipment.
Anyway - I'm sure this is very debatable subject - I will just stop there.

So let's see, you've already switched spaces with your son so you could move your new speakers into his old room, and now you're considering knocking out the east wall of your living room because you've just been offered an awesome used Kawazua Mx-80Ab pre-amp that's roughly the size of a 1986 Dodge Caravan, complete with roof rack, but you've run out of places to put it, except for the wall-less living room.
Would this be considered "normal" behavior, there in North Carolina?

Look at you, you and your wife are starting to realize your dreams. You are talking about moving into another house, your business is going well, and you are officially an Audiophile. I want to see you with a Dac, Streamer and Tidal Next. Heck even a Reel to Reel, which you had and a tape deck.
Isn't life great. How does it feel? Never be afraid to be an Audiophile, you are not pretentious. It is guys like you that we need in this Audiophile community to show others what is vs what isn't. I can see your eyes dance and your spirit glow as you talk about your system and what it means to you and the music that you listen to.
This is what it is all about. You aren't using fancy terms; you are saying what it is, and you come across quite convincingly. When you think about it, you have inherited in some way a part of the original owner's soul and it gives peace and solace knowing that the emotion that the original owner had will live on. Now you understand what it is all about. Pass it on so that others who don't know can know. We have to keep this hobby alive and please do this with the wife.
It is about hearing music on a different level that brings an emotional response. I'm quite proud of you, keep the dreams and the success rolling.!!!! You have showed what is possible if you work hard enough and have an outstanding supporting cast (wife). I wish you and your family a very successful 2022 and congratulations on the outstanding purchase as it will bring you many years of happiness.

Audiophile should mean hearing music on a higher level where you can hear among other things all the information on the Vinyl, CD, etc and not all that pretentious shit
Whenever I see people with lesser gear than yours, I think to myself how they don’t know what they’re missing even if they’re happy with their gear. Just think: you were happy before the upgrades and now it’s a new ballgame. Great gear, happy for you & enjoy ❤️

Wow, great speakers. I use only Klipsh for the last 20 years. Currently I have the forte 3. Your set up is pretty close to mine, I have a 275 amplifier and C2600 pre amp, all tubes. Sounds fantastic, sure you will have great time.

Dillon, the newer K-Horns do not need to be in corners.

A pair of Klipschorns and a McIntosh system? Utopian setup. I had a Pioneer SX-1250 with a pair of Altec Voice of the Theater speakers in the late 1970s. Sold it all when I joined the Navy in 1982.

I'm more a KEF guy because I've always loved the British sound and the 107 is just a gorgeous loudspeaker, but I have a buddy with a pair of these and they are phenomenal sounding, really large in sound, BIG in impact. You deserve them solely for manhandling them on your own! Great score, a beautiful system and I hope you get to hear it in a bigger room soon!

"I don't think I'll ever get to that point..." First the McIntosh, the fancy turntable, etc. etc. Now the Klipschorns. There's no going back. Hopefully your family and friends will have an intervention for you, before it's too late.

Having owned many Klipsch speakers inside the Xover is junk all cheap no name parts
I have rebuilt many with much much better parts like resistors which are $3 each
Iuse top $30 pathaudio and theyuse $15 capacitors spend $1500 in a Highend built Xover
You literally transform your Klipsch speakers this includes yourKhorns and others l

I love mine but I need more POWER to drive them. Mine are from 1982 and I've replaced the tweeters but nothing else. They are awesome speakers!

Not to rain on your parade. Let me first just say great stuff, love it all aside from the room. The speakers being in the corners are toed in way to much, I would assume the imaging that can be obtained is being lost out due to that issue. Aside from that, my assumption is with those speakers mid horns located over your gear, when played at higher volumes must play havoc on feed back through that transducer/tone arm or just plain out vibration issues. Suggestion if you don't mind, even though they are optimal in the corner, I think you would benefit more so if you toe them out till you get good imaging at your seated listening position. If you really want to change it up, sell those for a profit and pick up the smaller brothers, the LaScala's. I think those would be more rewarding in that room.

Lot of weight on top of vinyl storage. What makes you an audiophile is when you do what you did which is experiencing the music you've heard thousands of times yet have not done in a while, like laying down with a smile on your face. If it moves you, it's audiophile. All other definitions need not apply.

Audiophile to me just means $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I so inspire to be one, because the sound is impeccable and it fully engulfs you.
