An old friend owned La Scala speakers, his amp was an NAD C298. I didn't see my friend often, but every time I walked into his home I would hear beautiful music playing in another room. Even without seeing them I'd catch myself saying: "Oh! Yes, that's the La Scalas I hear, of course, there's nothing like them." To be in the same room with the audio turned down, they were unobtrusive, yet the music had a presence few other speakers can replicate. My friend passed away. My first thought was "Ah, that's too sad." The second thought was "Who got the La Scalas?

I have a pair of L100s that I bought in 1977, now with modern crossovers and replicated grills (the originals began to disintegrate in 1994). Still my primary speakers. Thanks for the great videos.
The LaScalas were far superior to the Belles sonically even though they were the “home version” of the LaScala (before Klipsch made a “home version” of the LaScala itself). There is a difference in the cabinet design between the two speakers and it was very apparent sonically.
I love watching your reviews; they are natural and easy to absorb but are so well informed and articulate. It's easy to tell that this is your passion and profession. Thank you for taking the time to do such a great job with these videos.
Have been using a set of LaScala II with a Benchmark AHB2 amplifier and DAC3 HGC preamp the past 3 years. Very 'clean' sound. No amplifier hiss or other extraneous noise whatsoever--something you might expect with a fairly sensitive (at least 100 db/watt/meter) loudspeaker. That said, they play as loud as you probably want with a low powered tube amp. A few watts will suffice. So take your pick. It's a different kind of hi-fi sound than the modern studio monitor thing. Not for everyone. Subjective, for sure. If you have the room and the means, they are certainly worth a serious audition.
I have owned a lot of Heritage speakers and own the AL-5 atm. Before i had the Cornwall 4 but the AL=5 is a the better one. I was lucky to get a hold of two La Scala, matte black, for $600 many years ago. An old house was being renovated and the two speakers were in the basement, covered in blanket and unused for many years, and the owner put it out in craiglist. The post was just about an hour old when I saw it and I didn't even bother to call the guy yet, i was already on the road, when I said, "im interested and I'm on my way". As I was loading the speakers into my yukon, two other cars arrived and the drivers stepped out and watched me load the last speaker. :D But before this one, I went to an estate sale and saw this unique pair of Klipschorn which appears to have a custom cabinet and it was painted dark purple; it had a tag for $1800. I briefly walked away to ask where to pay but when I went back to it, the tag was gone! :D I also lost out on a pair of Heresy that was listed in craiglist for $100. I was a few minutes late :D Nonetheless, my La Scala is getting along well with the rest of my Klipsch RF in my HT and loving it.
Very nice presentation / discussion. Having owned the Klipschorns for 14 years, and then downsizing a bit...... I am VERY pleased with the Forte 4 in the same finish as those you have there. Distressed oak, lambswool combo. The interesting thing is, the Forte' shares a woofer design VERY close to the pair used in the Jubilee ! I spoke with Roy about this. The EXTRA excursion from the one of a kind 12 driver is needed to excite the passive radiator on the back baffle. It is one of the reasons the Forte has a low frequency response that matches closely to the Klipschorn ! 😎
I believe that La Scala was originally designed in 1959 as a high quality PA speaker for an Arkansas gubernatorial candidate (Klipsch is based in Hope, Arkansas). As mentioned, it went on to a life as a professional touring speaker before transforming into the beautiful home model you have just demonstrated.
I was VERY fortunate to have bought the Klipsch Bells locally. Similar to the La Scala but a little more dressed up. Wonderful speakers and more importantly my wife loves them.

My 32 year old son is now using them and is thrilled to have them. I enjoy the content of the channel and look forward for more reviews. Thank you.
Glad to hear your Heresy's were handed down. I tend to hear that a lot with Klipsch speakers, they are loved, cared for and then passed to the next generation. Super cool Mike!

I am currently using an MC275 tube amp for the La Scala’s, and a MC8207 for the surround channels when watching movies. I did add a single SVS2000 sub-woofer for movies, but I agree that the LaScala’s have plenty of bass for ordinary music listening. The soundstage is as you described. I have added BACCH4Mac, which widened the soundstage by several feet. I consider BACCH an excellent addition to any system, regardless of price. With their 105 dB sensitivity, even a 1 watt tube amp would be sufficient to power the La Scala’s. They are simply amazing speakers! Great review. Thanks!

Bought LaScalas almost a year ago. My wife loves them inspite of the size especially after owning the Cornwalls. We put urethane casters under our's so they glide about a quarter inch above our wood floors for cleaning.
Excellent review! I had the opportunity to demo these the other day and I can tell you that they are indeed an excellent, exhilarating and engaging speaker. The lows? Like he said, you have to hear these speakers because the lows are quick and authentic that kicks you in the nuts! I'm not sure how to describe the lows but while it's different than what most people are accustomed to, I can tell you the lows are fantastic. I can't wait to get mine. Love your channel 🇨🇦
This is a wonderful channel. Nice to know that there is a lot of vintage stuff to buy. Good to see how well all items are looked after by you people. I love the info. Keep up the good work.
They do make great sounders. Like the vintage style. I saved a pair of vintage Pioneer speakers from the trash pile. Put two new big magnet woofer in to replace the crack ones. They are perfect and in great shape.
I first heard these back in the '70's when they also had the Belle Klipsch, a finished version of the pro LaScala's. The Belles had a different bass sound than the LaScala's and I hate to disagree with you but I'll take the Klipschorn looks to get the Klipschorn sound which is much fuller and richer than either the Belle or LaScala any day of the week! If people have a jaw dropping experience listening to the LaScala, have them hold their pants up listening to the Klipschorn's! I always felt like I was in the middle of the hall or band depending on how well the recording was made, K-Horns rock! Great review, looking forward to the next one! Thanks
I had a pair of 1970s Walnut Belles many years ago. I believe it was not a well-designed speaker from the sonic stsndpoint although very beautiful. They made them less deep than the LaScala to accommodate being in the home. The Belles were the home version of the LaScala but did not sound nearly as good. When the ‘Dope From Hope’ book comes out, we should learn more.
I thoroughly enjoyed your indepth, hands on review. Y'all have a refreshing approach to all of the equipment in your place of business. I'm certainly a huge fan of the klipsch la scala speakers.
In the 1990's I played bass in a New Wave band. I did not have an amp so they DI'd me into the mixer then into a Crown DC300 then into the LaScala's. (in a black industrial black.). They ran the keys and the vocal mic's as well. Most incredible sound filling medium sized clubs with ease and clarity. They weren't light but they were durable.
I loved my La Scala speakers and regret selling them. They sounded worlds better than the components would suggest, just a great design working as intended. Music was a joy to hear on them. I have many professional monitor speaker sets I use in production so I was able to compare my La Scalas directly and immediately with real reference quality speakers. I would not say the Klipsch speakers were of reference quality by any means but they sounded beautiful, imparting a desirable sound to whatever I played on them. The chosen drivers blended seamlessly, even at very close range. A fascinating product.
I wish I had the money to buy them and the room to place them and play them well. In the mean time, my pair of Forte IVs is doing an amazing job. Excellent video!
I bought a pair of vintage LaScalas (1988) in 2019, matched with a Marantz 2270. When I purchased a PimaLuna integrated amp in 2020, I traded the LaScalas in for a pair of vintage Klipschorns (1986) and picked up a pair of vintage Heresys (1977) for the Marantz 2270. While I love the Klipschorns, I immediately missed the LaScalas. I found another vintage pair of LaScalas (1984) in Utah and paired them with a Jolida Audio integrated, while rebuilding a pair of Manley reference monoblocks to match with a Jadis preamp. I won't make the mistake of letting a pair of LaScalas out of my hands in the future. I heard them for the first time in an audio store near downtown Chicago. I can still recall the memory of hearing LaScalas for the first time. As I said, I love my Klipschorns, but nothing can replace the sounds of a LaScala.
I’ve owned my La Scalas for a few years now. Started with rf7-II’s, and was looking to upgrade but just for giggles I hooked both sets up and actually found that they pair very nicely together! To this day every once in a while I’ll unhook the rf7s to see if my mind was playing tricks on me and they make a noticeable improvement to my ears. The rf7s alone are a little underwhelming, and the La scalas alone are definitely a huge upgrade, but together there’s something magical.
Did you address amplification at all? I would love some int amp recommendations, new and/or used. Also, is it true that these throw a higher soundstage than other Klipsch models? Thanks.
Great video, great value with Klipsch speakers. I love my original pair of Hersey's from 1976 still crisp and I absolutely LOVE my La Scala's circa 1995. Unbelievable presence, great live studio monitor...
This comment is for Anybody who attended THE LOFT and or PARADISE GARAGE ... these are (the older style he shows) the speakers that LARRY LEVAN wanted for the early version of the GARAGE. He (And Frankie Knuckles) first heard some at The LOFT in the early 1970s and fell in love with them. He wanted to have these setting on top of some LaScala basshorns (super rare). TOO MUCH YOU SAY?!! WELL, as some of you know, LARRY was a BASS MONSTER, i forget the reason WHY he or management decided not to go with the set up, but had they did .... it would have been special.
Had a set of lacallas 45 years best by far ran with luxman m120 tube amp and thornes turntable. 104 Dec.@1 watt. When loud, you could hear the same song 3 days later ringing in your ears...
Great video, like visiting with a friend who knows more than you but isn't in any way snobby about audio stuff. Thanks for the review, and I like those LaScalas.
I sadly sold a pair of custom Teak La Scalas about 12 years ago. There is something surprising about the La Scala, the way the three drivers blend. They were the install-style, single box with old crossover - unlike these split versions - that a boat builder friend custom finished in gorgeous Teak veneer.
Always enjoy your videos! I learn something new from every one. In today's world most people have the attention span of a gnat, but I take the time to absorb and benefit from your presentations. Keep up the good work Fernando!
The only pair of Klipsch I’ve ever heard were the Chorus. Ya, I know lol. This was around 1990 and I was completely blown away and enamoured by their special sound. Can only imagine how amazing the La Scala would sound, i’ve heard nothing but spectacular reviews about them. Absolutely gorgeous speakers
Gorgeous indeed, it's amazing how much attention and care they put into the veneer finish, long gone are days of black painted Klipsch speakers. Im happy to pay the premium for a premium finish but I wish they still made a cheap painted cabinet for those that just want the performance.
Would also agree how Klipsch speakers work well with McIntosh components. Stumbled onto a set of cherry LaScala IIIs about 10 years ago. Because if the room arrangement I now have, the Klipschorns are magic!
I live in Canada and love your channel despite the fact that due to distance and budget your stuff is unobtainium for me. I'd like to see more of your repair and refurbish process. Also it would be really cool if you did an equipment or brand history lesson show or background excerpt in some of your episodes (maybe once every month or two months). Great job at being honest and up front with your thoughts and opinions. I really appreciate that you are respectfully critical of any gear, even your Mac stuff, if it is warranted and that you point out great gear (ie. Sony, Technics) even if it is not known by people to be super high end stuff.
Read your reply and thought to mention a great Canadian turntable paired with Klipsch RP-160M and tube preamp. I love the content here also, just subscribed and always eager to soak up some knowledge and great gear also. The table is a Fluance RT85, an Ortofon Blue cartridge, all for about 550, with a weight included. The Klipsch monitors are very efficient, 30W is quite sufficient for my room, and the soundstage remarkable at the price point. They're hardly bookshelf speakers, quite deep, not extremely heavy. Nowhere in the neighborhood of the delicious LaScala, or a Mac for that matter, but it's good to have goals. Lol

La Scala was designed in the 60s as a PA speaker , and became a stage favorite for concerts in the 70s therefore the handles in the sides for mobility. Eventually to become an audiophile favorite and retail for home use ! Because of its stage popularity it was named after the Scala theatre in Milan, and is also registered at the Rock and Roll hall of fame! I’m driving mine with the Leak 230 and have the pre outs running out to an SVS micro 3000 which adds a whisper of more bass, making it a dream come true for My ears! I call them my gentle giants and they fill up my 1000sqf living room with live like sound!
I'm still listening to my 47 year old Heraseys. They are powered through a threeway crossover by a Carver pa with a B&W sub, They are perfectly set in corners at ear level. Sounds like live music!
Stunning ! Gorgeous ! I wonder how this compares with Cornwalls especially in terms of bass extension ? I also assume it will pair very well with low very powered, SET amps ?
Thanks for the video. I appreciate the in-depth discussion you present on the various models. Keep up the good work. BTW, my favorite heritage Klipsch was the Belle Klipsch; I always thought they looked stunning.
I love how they match the grain from top to bottom. Beautiful detail.

This is a wonderful channel. Nice to know that there is a lot of vintage stuff to buy. Good to see how well all items are looked after by you people. I love the info. Keep up the good work.
great video, very informative...those speakers are super nice looking
Thanks for sharing this great video I appreciate it...... The La Scala is A Beautiful Piece of Art I bet they Sound as great as they look too 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
They do make great sounders.
Thanks Fernando! Would love to come by to see and hear them!
Do come by, we just ordered a new pair as those quickly sold.
I wish I had the money to buy them and the room to place them and play them well. In the mean time, my pair of Forte IVs is doing an amazing job.
Excellent video!
The Fortes are proportionally just as good. Same soul and emotion. Enjoy them!
Great Video! Beautiful system.
Mind blown. Stunning aesthetics! Thank you!
Did you address amplification at all? I would love some int amp recommendations, new and/or used. Also, is it true that these throw a higher soundstage than other Klipsch models? Thanks.
Really enjoy this channel. Hope you are able to keep creating new content!
Great video, great value with Klipsch speakers. I love my original pair of Hersey's from 1976 still crisp and I absolutely LOVE my La Scala's circa 1995. Unbelievable presence, great live studio monitor...
Thanks for sharing! Great live studio monitor is a great way to describe the line. Cheers Tim.
Fernando , your videos are interesting and very enjoyable for to day ,but in the future ( years from now) they are going to be historical treasures.
Thanks for you kind world John. Im blushing.
Ah man. As a deep student of house history this is a legendary info drop. Thank you!
And then along came Richard Long…..and the Levan bass bin…!!!
Had a set of lacallas 45 years best by far ran with luxman m120 tube amp and thornes turntable. 104 Dec.@1 watt. When loud, you could hear the same song 3 days later ringing in your ears...
I have to keep going into my search bar to find you even though I’m already subscribed !
Great video, like visiting with a friend who knows more than you but isn't in any way snobby about audio stuff. Thanks for the review, and I like those LaScalas.
Just discovered your channel and shop. Can't believe I never visited when I was in the area. Please keep the comment coming!
I sadly sold a pair of custom Teak La Scalas about 12 years ago. There is something surprising about the La Scala, the way the three drivers blend. They were the install-style, single box with old crossover - unlike these split versions - that a boat builder friend custom finished in gorgeous Teak veneer.
Oh too bad, I bet they looked great in Teak.
We dig you up here in Canada as well!
Hey thanks Mark!!
3:09 I saw a stack of Meridian electronics? :) LOVELY! grrreat video!
Always enjoy your videos! I learn something new from every one. In today's world most people have the attention span of a gnat, but I take the time to absorb and benefit from your presentations. Keep up the good work Fernando!
Thanks Paul, I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Sure helped getting this video promoted.
I was a kid first I saw them and they sounded huge! Thanks for the share.
I like your ideas Johnny. Did some restoration videos a while back, be sure to check them out.
Lol
Keep the videos coming - always informative. Someday I’ll get back to Glen Rock and will stop by. I said sayonara to the Garden State after 70 years - Loving life in no income tax, free Republic of Texas🤠🇺🇸
Sure would like to get away from NJ taxes. Thanks for writing sir.
@@SkyFiAudio Grew up in Glen Rock - It was a Norman Rockwell existence - Raised my family in Madison, NJ, another great town. The reality is that most of my friends, as they retire, have left or are planning to leave - makes no economic sense to stay in the NY metropolitan area after retirement - 2022 Property tax on the Glen Rock home I grew up in $23,600 - 2022 property tax for my house in Texas, north of Dallas, $6,800. I think I can spend that $16,800 annual difference more wisely than Gov Murphy + Did I mention NO INCOME TAX🤠
As Mr Dylan said, “The Times, They Are a’changing” - I’m fortunate, both of my children have great jobs, very successful - My daughter has already moved to Texas, saving thousands in taxes & my son is looking for a house in Florida, leaving behind his home in Hoboken & office in Manhattan. Don’t intend this to be political rant, I love this TH-cam channel for the Stereo/HiFi content - But political policy is driving the people who create wealth out of the northeast. Wishing everyone the best - And as soon as my 30 year old Denon turntable decides to retire, I’ll be on online with SkyFi for a replacement - Will probably dive to Glen Rock to pick it up - Happy Trails & Thanks
I have had the pleasure of listening to just on song on these speakers, the song was City Hall by Vienna Teng, and her voice nearly brought me to tears and its become my dream to own a pair one day.
Glad you got to experience them. I be it made the review more meaningful.
I call them my gentle giants and they fill up my 1000sqf living room with live like sound!
hey good to know, was wondering where the name came from, thought it was an opera or something. I bet they sound great with that 230. Cheers.
I'm still listening to my 47 year old Heraseys. They are powered through a threeway crossover by a Carver pa with a B&W sub, They are perfectly set in corners at ear level. Sounds like live music!
Sounds like a neat and dialed in system. Congrats.
Stunning ! Gorgeous ! I wonder how this compares with Cornwalls especially in terms of bass extension ? I also assume it will pair very well with low very powered, SET amps ?
They Cornwalls have a bit more bass but they lack the massive horn thats responsible for most of the magic.
Fernando, love your site! Keep it up please.
Beautiful setup! I want to hear these in person!
Very informative video.
Thank you!
Thank you for your review. I love the La's
Thanks for the video. I appreciate the in-depth discussion you present on the various models. Keep up the good work. BTW, my favorite heritage Klipsch was the Belle Klipsch; I always thought they looked stunning.
Very beautiful but sonically inferior to the LaScala.
"Now, does anyone know where I put my glasses?"
Great presentation of the La Scalas. Would like to know more about what equipment does them justice, and cabling.
Like your channel 👍🏻 Sorry it hasn’t shown up more 😕
This one seems to be doing much better thanks to you guys. Thank you all!!!
I need to make my way up to listen to these in person!
Please do sir.
Aesthetics do matter and the La Scalas radiate midmod glory....
Love these vids boss. I picked up a pair of cornwall 4s last summer. Great speakers.
Oh super choice, What amp are you using?
9:11. lol. the assembler left his mark.
I have never had the opportunity to listen to horn speakers😢
Maybe someday.
Love the channel Fernando!!
Please keep the videos coming👍
Glad you liked it Steve and thanks for taking the time to comment.
Beautiful speakers!
I love the channel and Please keep doing what Y'all do how else can I keep dreaming....🙂. About what I would have in another Life,🔊🔊🔊✌️💯
I'm in Joplin Missouri don't have high end equipment in our area nice to ses high-end speakers are still around thanks
Great video! Can you comment on amplifier matching?
I did a few message above this one. Thanks sir.
