Just wanna give a shoutout to you lovely because you gave me sm detailed info about this trip that I don't even want to do this long Contiki trip. The ferry overnights would annoy me too honestly I'm with you. I was wanting to pick to do this adventurer one but now I feel turned off but I am looking to do a shorter european trail or quest trip. Thank you 😁✈

I did a hotel trip with topdeck and the accommodation was pretty good. It was close in price to what you paid here and was 32 days. Were all the contiki hotels ok? I'm doing a contiki this upcoming European summer and we're doing hotels only again

what trip did you do and when? I'm looking at doing a topdeck tour in Europe. Did you get much time In each city? was there much partying?

I did the 34 day (correction from 32 days) Discover Europe tour in August/September 2018 (was planning to do a Contiki this July/August but that’s now been cancelled). Some cities we had whole days or even 2 days in and others were arrive in the afternoon, do a city tour, have a dinner and then back on the bus the next morning. When they give you a day in a city it’s a totally free day, if they sell you a ticket for an experience you may (likely will) need to make your own way there (for example in Paris the river boat was a ticket and the boats leave every hour, you just choose which one you want to go on and do it yourself, they don’t take you there and you all do the activity together). I’m the least party party person you can imagine so take my experience with a grain of salt, there was a reasonable amount of partying and if you weren’t into that sort of thing it was difficult to make other plans for the evening as the group headed one way and if you wanted to head back to the hotel after dinner it was up to you to make your own way back alone (an absolute horror for a nervy solo traveller like me). If you’re looking for a party atmosphere there will be one available, if you’re looking to have the tour company drop you back at the hotel after dinner I’d choose Contiki. I quizzed my travel agent extensively about the group part of a group tour and was satisfied that Contiki was more secure in keeping the group thing going. If you’re fine with really doing your own thing then Topdeck is for you, they call it group travel, individual experience. I’d do a group trip again and had plans to, but I can’t say I wasn’t a little bit put off by the lack of security for the individual in a Topdeck group. My hotel trip was mostly couples so as a solo it was very difficult to form a good group of friends to hang out with day to day. I hope that doesn’t put you off too much, I really did have a good time even if it doesn’t necessarily sound like it lol

@@WinterWind I am not a party person at all either. I thought contiki was more of a party tour company than topdeck so that's why I was thinking about going with topdeck. How many people shared a room with you usually? what was the food and accommodation like? for some reason I just thought topdeck was more relaxed and mature. Thanks so much for your answer

@@jessicabrown8158 yes so did I. Honestly I picked topdeck thinking it would be all similar minded people who wanted to see the sights and not party but it wasn't necessarily like that. I also chose a hotel trip that was pretty expensive thinking you'd get that crowd too but what I felt it more attracted was the couple crowd because with hotels you always share a room with just the other person you came with and not with a whole lot of people. For me there were so few solo travellers that I had about 10 days in rooms by myself (that I hadn't paid a single supplement for) which I actually really liked because I'm an introvert. On other days when the group was a different size and there were more solo girls we swapped who got the single room and who shared, so it would change city to city. The roommates I had were nice and we got along fine, we also did hang out in the day but again at night often it was up to you to make your own way back to the hotel so if they wanted to party you would get a taxi or walk with whoever you could find heading back to the hotel as well. Most of the hotels were very nice, a lot of novotels, best Western plus type places, clean, modern, reasonable food, some in great locations in the cities and others a little bit out of the city just depending on how big the place was. I'd say yes topdeck is relaxed because you can make it what you want, they really do let you structure your own days, but I found it very emotionally stressful because I hadn't prepared at all for basically doing my own thing, I'd prepared for having someone "tour guide" me around various cities in Europe. I booked straight off the website based on their ads and what I'd heard from people in conversation, I didn't talk to a travel agent which is why the next time I was going to travel I went and asked a lot of questions to a travel agent and basically her that I really didn't want to have to do much on my own. I think I went into a topdeck with expectations that weren't necessarily matching what they as a company actually endeavour to provide. Ask me anything else and I'll try to answer as best I can 😊

@@WinterWind thank you so so much! maybe contiki would suit me better then. I want a tour because I'm scared about having to get myself to navigate the city, get back to accommodation etc. If contiki drops people back at accommodation who dont want to party and stuff then that's probably better for me. Did you ask the travel agent about the differences between topdeck and contiki. I really want to di a trip next year, I really thought topdeck would suit me more but maybe not
