The bike was revving too high at low speed, changing the sprocket traded a little power for better top end. The Gearing Commander website helps to calculate the correct ratio.
@@motorcyclejunkie7564 Probably the same sprockets they put on new bikes, they dont put expensive stuff on there, but its the chain you want to spend alot of money on
Worth it in the end I’m sure and achieved what you wanted, would I have done it to a new bike? I don’t think I would but that’s not a criticism I’m probably not adventurous enough
How many teeth is your rear sprocket? I could not catch in the video. I used 42 teeth so I can travel more harmoniously at highway speeds. My front to back ratio is 3. Top speed is about 148.
Hi Bertie, I replied with some info about where to get a 15t sprocket a couple of weeks ago but the link disappeared, maybe links are not allowed. Anyway i have a source for Japan built 15t sprockets which I have been using for 5k with no problems
I did get the notification but nothing there when I looked, maybe you are right about links? Anyway, as you know I changed the rear sprocket and shortened the chain. For the time being I am happy with it, many thanks for the info though.
Hi Bertie, thanks for this, love learning along the way like you. I can get hold of a 39 tooth rear for my strom, gearing commander shows this would be about 6000 rpm at 60 mph . Do you think that would be going too far? Obvs the speedo will be out too
@@motorcyclejunkie7564 Just put in the 39 tooth at the rear yesterday (finally!) and new 112 link chain. Initial findings are good, got it up to 100 km/h with engine running at about 6200 rpm. Happy so far as ride is much less busy. Acceleration is slower for sure but adequate for me. Looking forward to longer trip when weather picks up and test on motorways.
Hi friend, how can you understand that you have to change? Did you make any compare between older and new one visually? Thanks.

me i just change my stock 49T to 43T now the engine is more relax to high speed
I changed to 15 in the front and 45 on rear, lost some acceleration but it´s totally a new bike. RPM are quiet at high speed now.
Where did you get your front sprocket? I wasn't able to find one.
@@motorcyclejunkie7564 mine came from AliExpress. Cheers
@@pmfsify Not sure I trust my life to cheap Chinese metal
@@motorcyclejunkie7564 you're point of view is pertinent. Personally do an inspection every 1000k when I clean the chain to check the sprocket wear.

It has made it a much better bike for motorway cruising. If it was just to be used around town I may have left it as it was.

41 on the rear. It will cruise along nicely about about 80mph, not sure of top speed though.

I went to a 41 tooth and to be honest I think 39 would be too much. Might be wrong though, if you do it let me know how it goes.
Speedometer runs off of the wheel. You’ll be ok. It won’t change.

@@michaelwalsh90 Nice one! I have now moved my one on to a new owner, but lots of fun while I had it.

No it’s runs from the gearbox
So it’s always showing the same same speed and rpm regardless the sprocket size
cool
