Your intros are always amazing Matti, i love how they introduce us to the subject of the video and form the base for the story so subtly. It didn't even felt like it was shot on iPhone, it felt like any other intro out of a camera
I just tried cinematic mode on the selfie camera, and it’s incredibly good - even in poor light. I think this iPhone 14 Pro might just become my a-camera, now!
If you’re talking about the enhanced AI that Apple uses (that you can’t disable in photos), it’s horrible. It gives a watercolor paint effect to photos.
It's very good. It seems to struggle with glasses though. Particularly your transparent frames. When you consider that you shot this whole thing on a phone, it's pretty astounding.
For an iPhone video, the quality of this entire video is quite amazing. Seems like there is actually no need for a professional mirrorless camera for TH-cam content creation
I want Apple to do more work on their potrait mode and telephoto camera .This is the camera and mode that people use the most and loves to use .So improving that will be amazing and I really don’t understand why Apple isn’t using the lidar sensor for portrait mode .It’s been three years since they introduced the lidar sensor but still they are not using it to improve the edge direction and depth mapping while taking portrait mode photos or cinematic video
Speaking of cinematic mode, one thing people don't think about, and I haven't seen any reviewers mention is that it enhances low light, because ML-blur occurs post-noise I've been shooting a lot of cinematic mode at Ultra Europe and with the festival-style editing and cutting pace I swear it looked exactly like the event cam Ultra posted
Yup. If this phone came out 2-3 years ago, I may never have needed to get into mirrorless cameras. For talking heads, it looks fantastic! Most people would automatically assume its a nice camera. Small imperfections, but much better than the 13. The focus racks are so natural too. Dynamic range of course, is perfect, especially with prores. I'd love to see a video comparing the colour science of iPhone, Sony, and Canon. Both with straight out of camera, and graded to match.
iPhone is good, but cannot compete with a Camera like Sony. It depends a bit what kind of videos you do of course. What I like with bigger cameras is much better color grading changes, less noise, depth of field and much more options with lenses.
Obviously the mjrrorless will be higher quality, more flexible grading, better noise. BUT just how much does it matter for TH-cam. Noise will probably be the biggest thing, but for quick sequences, not many people are gonna notice
Over sharpening is still HORRIBLE, especially in video... WE NEED an option to reduce the ULTRA SHARPENING that ruins the footage. And keep in mind that TH-cam compresses and smooths things out. Another great video, as always!
I find the best way is to purchase third party filters and use a moment case etc. Cinebloom 5% or 10% works well, but obviously this won't work for everyday shooting.

great review. Big fan of your work. I would think that a person who is interested in photography would still benefit from buying a mirrorless camera. The iPhone adjusts a lot of things for you whereas a standard camera doesn’t. It’ll teach them how to dial in what they want. I think it would be difficult for someone to go from an iPhone to a Sony A7s3 or something similar to it.
That's pretty much me! Going from using iPhone 13 Pro Max to launch my business, using Filmic Pro / ProTake as third party apps. I thought it was normal to shoot at ISO 34!
Sony Xperia 1IV. This thing really is a content creation machine. Its got a 85-125mm true optical Zoom Lens 🤯 (Yes in a Phone). And all Lenses 16,24 and 85-125mm all shoot in 4k up to 120fps.

I use my camera for real estate photos and this upgrade is definitely worth it. The ultra wide is def better in low light, and the new wide camera is gonna help me get even more professional looking photos. Cinematic mode in 4k is replacing my Canon M50 for my talking head videos. I don’t have blur issues for me since I have short hair and no glasses it looks much better than my starter camera and I hate the workflow of using a camera. Selling a lot of stuff right now lol

Winning client work now after a year or so pushing iPhone videography with little success but the tech is improving scarily fast. That being said, for low-light situations I have decided to purchase a Sony A7IV, so the iPhone 14 Pro shooting ProRes will be my B Cam. thinking of upgrading to iphone 14 pro max. do you think the camera would do exceptionally better than the iphone 11 pro when recording concert videos? if so, what mode would be best for recording while jumping and dancing around at a concert? I use 3 cameras for different scenarios and not one of the cameras I use is a dslr. I like simple, quick and easy. The cameras I use is the iPhone 12 mini, the GoPro hero 9 and the insta360 go 2. I don’t use my dslr camera anymore unless it’s for photography. Great video!
I know you didn't say this but many other reviewers are incorrectly (in my opinion) claiming the 2x is an optical zoom. Its not, atleast not to me. Its just cropping a high megapixel photo, no different than taking a photo with the 1x (using all 48Megapixels) and cropping it in post. I'm sure IOS does some nice automatic post editing to make it look better than if someone does it themselves though.
Matti, when you were on the One-Wheel, was it hand-held on on a selfie-stick? Because the phone doesn't have the same features as a GoPro or Insta360 right for subject lock

could you test the samsung s22 ultra because it has a 108 mp main sensor, 100x numerical zoom , a x3 x10 telephoto equivalent to 240 mm, video pro mode and 8k video recording.
the cameras have 100% focus pixels. perhaps they can use those to at least estimate difference from the plane in focus to help the AI add the blur?

S22 ultra is way far better than 14 pro

The lidar has a pretty low resolution. So doubt it would help much

True I don’t know why they even limit the lidar only in Night mode portrait shots. Its such a waste that they are not using it that much.

You cannot compete with the biggest sensors of the Sony's and the Canon's... or the glass, etc etc.

I noticed, it can't detect the edge of your glasses in cinematic mode. It blurrs them as well.

0:34 the white balance shifted a lot in the different zooms. That shouldn’t happens in broad daylight.
