    It's such an impressive build design! I'm not sure if I'll be buying this, but I love the sand green and overall look to it.

    Just got done building my set that I picked up today. Now, I should state I have some bias since I’m someone who owns and uses typewriters. But my enjoyment of building this set was completely separated from that. I had just as much, if not more, fun building this set as I did with other recent releases like the Space Shuttle and Medieval Blacksmith. Seeing the sleek body come together and testing the mechanism as you’re building it and understanding how it functions was so satisfying. It’s one of the most creative and complex sets I’ve built in a while, and that’s what made it worth the price tag to me, in addition to it being a great display piece.
    If you’re buying sets just to display them and not actually having any fun or satisfaction from building them, what’s the point? I’d take this any day over a branded Ideas or normal branded set. The more we support sets like this, the more LEGO will continue to produce and sell them. I personally feel like unique and creative sets like this are what is going get the next generation of builders hooked on LEGO.

      Yeah, I am confused by the negativity in these comments. "For that money, you can buy a real typewriter"... Well, yeah, you can buy a cheaper prefabbed model/toy for nearly everything LEGO makes, but the main event for most people is the couple of evenings of enjoyment you get out of putting it together.
      I'm not going to spend nearly that much time actually typing on a real typewriter, the display piece is just a nice bonus. I wonder how many would spend this kind of money on a concert, with nothing tangible to take home at all, while you could just listen to the songs on TH-cam; there's more to it than that.
      I have a Curta calculator for some real vintage flair on my shelf, I'd love to have this next to it... and now I want a LEGO curta too 😅

      I love typewriters ever since I used the one my grandfather had! I wish it could function, but think of how complex & hard it'd be to incorporate shift keys, and actual typebars (those brick thingies that set in the letters). I think this is a wonderful things on it's own though! The green is amazing & extremely accurate too. Props to LEGO for this!

    I'm a typewriter collector and I have paid less, but also more, for machines I own. This is delightful. I don't collect LEGO but I want this - and luckily it's a birthday gift on its way to me now. Can't wait.
    Missed opportunity to provide a case though - especially since LEGO created a shoebox for the adidas shoe.

    the handle on the left side is usually there to advance the page by one, two or three lines (depending on the setting) (this happens when you rotate the handle) and to return the carriage (when you push the handle to the right). Usually the handle is shaped in a way that lets you combine these two motions into one fluid motion.
    Those two functions are the reason why text document lines and with the commands
    and
    - new line and carriage return.

    It's not a fully-functional typewriter but I really appreciate this set for the functionality it provides. The color choice is amazing too. The price in my opinion is the main downside of this set. Thanks for the insightful review!

  • @morimo11
    @morimo11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The handle on the left is for resetting the carriage and rotating the paper one line up. Using your left hand you pull the handle to the right, unlocking the carriage and rotating the drum, then “throw” the whole thing to the far right and aligning with the left margin. “Throwing the Carriage”

  • @jlai036
    @jlai036 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    There is nothing wrong with technic. Technic is the only way to introduce mechanical features into a static classic lego set. IMO the typewriter is not very studded so looks less like a classic lego set which I think is really nice. It takes more effort to make a lego set look visually less like it was put together with lego bricks and more visually closer to the real thing. What you didn't emphasise much on is that a true functioning typewriter has a hammer for each letter whereas this model only has one hammer for all keys. I think for anyone who appreciates how a typewriter works this is the main let down of this set. Otherwise it's fantastic.

    • @sanjaytamil1376
      @sanjaytamil1376 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i don't know why people expected every hammer to work. the size of a real hammer is tiny and lego has no pieces that small. it's virtually impossible to get all of them to work. smh

    The handle that sticks up is the "carriage-return", and why CR is carriage return - it returns the typing carriage. On the lego set it does not work as it fall off, and you have to push the carriage itself.

  • @Channain
    @Channain 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I give ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ of 5. When he says "drum" that's the platen. When he says "handle" he means carrier Return, which is where the Return button came from. For a guy who knows nothing about typewriters (and didn't bother to do the anatomy research), I did find the Lego side of the review helpful. I don't personally see how $20 makes a difference in a set with this much detail. If that is all that it cost to NOT have to put stickers on all the keys, so be it.

      True. I also get his point that it could be disappointing. With myself I enjoy stacking bricks. The technics add all the cool features but don’t get me going the same way.
