    Right before they announce the winners you can see Damiano telling the other band members (as an italian speaker I can lip read what He is saying) to act sportsmanlike if they end up not winning. That to me is one of the reasons why these guys are so great at what they do. They are confident, but at the same time they are humble and don't take things for granted.

      @@neobrand1845 At 5:58 Damiano actually shouts "Dicce sti voti'' in his roman dialect😂, It's"Tell us the votes!" in english. (Damiano and the other members of the band obviously speak in Italian, but It's common for them to throw some words and phrases around in their roman dialect as well, which is actually very hilarious). And then at 7:58 He tells the other members to act sportsmanlike if they don't win.

    For me the whole televoting was very exciting! My favorites were Ukraine, Italy, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania and Portugal. They all did not receive so many votes from the juries, except Maneskin and I was sad. Then the votes of the public came in....and everything changed! (Unfortunately not for Portugal). My poor heart!
    That was most exciting ESC for me for a long time!
    And so surprising, because usually I listen to the songs before the show and see what I like. This year I knew nothing, not even the song of my country.

  • @schuhschrank947
    @schuhschrank947 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    This is how voting at the Eurovision Song Contest works:
    Each country awards two sets of points: one set is based on the votes of each country's professional jury, comprising five music professionals from that country; and a second set is based on the votes of the general public in the competing countries through telephone, SMS or the official Eurovision app. Each set of points consists of 1-8, 10 and 12 points to the jury and public's ten favourite songs, with the most preferred song receiving 12 points. National juries and the public in each country are not allowed to vote for their own country, a rule first introduced in 1957.
    At first the juries votes were announced, country by country. After that the public votes were announced but they are all summed up of all countries, starting at the contestant with the lowest points from the juries. You got in at the point were only five countries hadn't recieved their public votes. Italy was on place four after recieving the jury points.

    Honestly, this year Eurovision has been the best edition since i remember watching it. Maybe because of the pandemic, idk, but every country decided they want to win at any cost and sent the best singer, the best performence, the best song possible and gave their best on the stage. Well, exept for Germany i guess... But what made its huge success this year, i believe is, the fact that a big part of the countries finally chose to sing in their oun languages and bring a piece of their culture in it, which to me is the beauty at eurovision, and in fact you probably saw this in the clip, people prised that with their votes. I live in Italy and even if i'm a huge fan of Maneskin and i screamed like crazy when they won, i can't deny i absolutely love every song from the top 10 and i listen them every day. You really will like Barbara's song (France), her performance was also indescribable. And no, she had nothing to do with the ignorant french journalist and his stupid behavior against Maneskin.

    One of the things you might not know, is that Eurovision does not come with a cash prize for winning. All the artists get out of it is exposure and the honor of being the winner. (that and being part of Eurovision history)
    This means, that if you get into the top five, let out the top three, your country is going to be incredibly happy with you, and being second place is still a huge thing. Because you get the acknowledgement that both the public and the jury loved you enough to put you that high up. (and on top of that your country doesn't have to host the next year ;-) ) So it's no wonder that she was so utterly happy with her second place.
    From what I heard, Gjon's Tears, the guy from Switzerland, had already done the math and knew he wasn't going to win, before they gave him his points.
    Damiano, from what he said in an interview after, is bad at math, so he didn't even realize they'd won until a few seconds after they gave Switzerland's points ;-)

    It's funny cause this Italian victory at the Eurovision really is a big deal as you say, but it's a whole other level than usual Eurovision winner. I'm French, and I've never missed a Eurovision contest in over 15 years, and usually, winner have like one hit song, mostly within their own country, and otherwise you never hear from them, ever. Even 2006 Lordi became Eurovision legends, but didn't blow the charts. Måneskin are, with sold out tour all around Europe and highest score on Spotify. It's not that Eurovision is that big of a deal. It's Måneskin, they're the big deal !
    Thanks for all your videos, very fun and professional musical opinion, love it !

Like any year before, I did not watch the ESC (music not my taste) and I would not be able to tell you the name of a winner and their Song (besides Conchita) of the last years. This year, I watched the whole thing (even semi finals) and behind the scene videos... I am obsessed, but I found several new bands and artists.

    The special thing about Måneskin. Only ABBA in the 70s managed to translate an ESC win into a global success. (Of course ABBA was still a different level back then).
    So this is huge for them and the ESC. It might transform the contest from now on in terms of real artistry in music no matter which genre.
    So in the moment they won they had no idea what might happen afterwards. I guess they hoped for it since they were already successful in Italy but it never happened in this way since a long time for an ESC winner.

    Eurovision when it is like it was this year..it is nail biting and exciting. In the old times pre-covid there would be fab Eurovision parties and the atmosphere would have been amazing with everyone on the edge of their seats. The reason there is this level of tension is because first there are the jury votes by country. Then the public vote. And that public vote can turn things on their head. Switzerland was the winner of the jury vote. But the public spoke. Rock never dies!!

    My little Eurovision 2021 story: I logged in exactly the moment the public votes were announced, with those four countries getting no points from the public votes. I had indeed started to watch the first contestants, but stopped because of the first three songs which I found terrible, and because the song representing my country, Germany, which I had heard before to me was cringeworthy, and I could not bear to watch that. And so I saw this band from Italy for the first time when it came to announcing their score. Had had never heard of them before. Thought: Wohoo, HE is handsome af, and: They are young, obviously. And their outfits so flamboyant. And then he said rock'n'roll never dies and they did the winning performance right at the end of the whole show ... The chorus stuck like clingfilm in my head even while sleeping. And so I joined Måneskin-mania, no escape.

    I remember watching this for the first time. I have hated the Eurovision Song Contest for many years, because imo the music was shit, it didn’t represent my style of music. Seeing Italy win this year made my heart jump and I wanted to cry. Rock finally getting the recognition it deserves, is the greatest, and Måneskin are such great performers, both on stage and as musicians. I couldn’t be happier for them. And I’m Danish, so Victoria having a Danish mother makes me even more proud of them. May they rock forever 🤟🏼🏳️‍🌈💋

    Beautiful emotions ❤️ ... and the controversy raised by the French? Do you know? We had to wait for the confirmation of the actual victory. They had to analyze a video of a Damiano "movement"

    • @consyplanner5005
      @consyplanner5005 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ecc ecc. Damiano also had to do some analyzes and prove that he was clean and so they confirmed his victory. 😠

      @@consyplanner5005 : afaik, he didn't "have to". They explicitly volunteered to take a drug test that same night, but the event organizers couldn't provide it, so he took it a couple of days later. It's also not really clear that their win was ever at stake, all the organizers said was that they were "reviewing the footage".
      And in the footage itself it was ridiculously clear that Damiano wasn't even that close to the table.
      It was just a case of, you know, "parla, la gente purtroppo parla" :D

    That's just the last part. The PEOPLE from HOME voting. Before that there was the jury vote which, as always, undervalued Italy. The juries tried to rob Italy also this time, but the popular vote was overwhelming. Luckily. You also missed the crazy accusation of drug using (in front of the cameras and of all the other contestants) by french media, being them as always such a arrogant and bad and petty losers.

    So how the voting works is that firstly there are Jurors from every country that give out from 1-12 points. After that is a televoting sequenc thus given points are meant to be how much public liked them. People can not vote for the country they live in so an Italian song won that no italians voted on.

    They really are the GOAT, but this is a one time/year only. Okay.. Abba (didn't like them at the time) but the evolved into a worldwide phenomenon.. after ABBA, Maneskin/Italy are the first to achieve that, I think.
