It’s always been my head canon that after he lost Rita he’s been living in his head which is why in seasons 5-8 he almost seems untouchable and doesn’t experience serious consequences till the last episode
Anyone in the comments saying “season 5 was bad/mid/a decline etc” is crazy, the arc with Lumen was different than anything we had ever seen, shit was captivating, and not to mention episode 9 titled (Teenage Wasteland) contained the closure between Dex and Astor which was very well needed.
Probably going to get hate for this. But I actually loved Season 5 more than I liked Season 3. Yes Miguel was amazing, that entire arch with Dexter was something else. But the Lumen and Dexter bond was so impactful, I loved how she knew Dexters secret and yet continued to get away and essentially escape. We see this a few times later but Lumen too me is more interesting with the girl he eventually hooks up with.
I just got done with it today on Netflix. And I would just change the part where he isolates himself when he have a kid to take care and his other half
Am I the only one that like the other seasons beside 6. The only thing I would change about the season finale is that he go take care of his son with Hannah
That's not an ending. It was probably initially set up to be the catalyst for Dexter's death or incarceration. As shitty as the two endings are I would prefer them over having a nothingburger ass ending.
I always thought that the finale of season 4 was finale, and episode 1 of Season 5 is the coda. He kills his first person from an emotional aspect, when he beats the man to death for insulting Rita. The last moment is his eulogy saying he needs to stay with the people who loves her, and with a realizing stare his inner monologue saying "like I did." It leaves the viewer knowing that perhaps from here Dexter is capable of actual emotion and perhaps he can live as a person. Instead we got him as a lumberjack. What a mess.
It's clear to me that Dexter survived. He got what he deserved and that's not death. He is confronted with death every day and death doesn't panic him, on the contrary, it reassures him. A life of loneliness being aware that he will drag every person with whom he has an emotional bond to their doom is what destroys him. The acceptance that the monster in him has defeated the human in him. Living with that is the punishment he deserves and what he got at the end. (New Blood kinda ruined this)
Dexter is alive , he either hospitalized or in a coma. Just think about it in new blood we see him get shot but he could have given Harrison a gun with rubber bullets and wore a vest with exploding blood. We never actually saw Dexter get put in a body bag
Yeah no, he escaped from the police station after killing Logan and went straight to Harrison, I'm not sure where he got the vest with blood packs from.
@@Cswyr777LOL, LITERALLY. Man is dead. They even ended New Blood to solidify the fact that he died because with him dead not many people want to see a continuation of his son’s journey, it’s pretty pointless.
Not sure why a lot of Dexter fans want him dead or get caught. I guess I’m one of the few that didn’t mind the season 8 ending. For me, new blood ending was quite disappointing. Harrison shoots his father? It was anti climactic. People forget that the first and most important part of the code is Don’t get caught. It trumps the rest of the code. Even the ending in the book, Dexter is left bleeding out and trying to escape and falls into the water. Then the book ends. No epilogue. SPOILER ALERT! Now the reader is left to wonder: is Dexter really dead, did Deborah rescue him, did they all (including the children) escape, did they all die, etc. etc. BTW the book is so much better.
I recently finished watching Dexter & Dexter New Blood for the first time, how we went from the highs of Season 4 and a decent Season 5 to the lackluster final 3 hurts, Season 5 should’ve ended with Deb catching Dexter & Season 6 either him on the run or standing trial for his crimes, Dexters downfall was towards the end there was never any stakes and we never got to see the reaction to his friends and co-workers finding out he was really the BHB, New Blood come so close to redeeming it & I thought it was a great season but they somehow ruined it all in the final 30 minutes of the show
i personally think s7 was quite good compared to 6 and 8. We had deb finding out, Isaak Sirko, hannah, laguerta hunting dexter and louis going for dexter too. All the storylines seemed to blend well too and conclude s7 so well with a cliff hanger
Dexter was never real, he got institutionalised before he was even an adult, that's why we get so many flashbacks of Michael C Hall in wig as a teenager 😂
i think that new blood is a great way of ending dexter and ends it on a nicer way then the first show did, it also gave us some extra dexter and i feel that how new blood was written was really great way and very respectfully highlights why dexter is great
@@dnadz it was good but the ending was the simplest choice they could’ve made I would’ve loved to see an episode of him in court telling his story and then as he’s being executed he’s starts to see everyone he killed staring at him. That was an idea created by Michael c hall and it would’ve been much more impactful and fitting
I think its a cool theory but in my heart he lived and new blood never happened, new blood was interesting but it ruined the whole point of Dexters ending in the original, the whole point was he isolates himself and cant be himself anymore, the thought of him living, not because he was given mercy but instead as a punishment is a lot cooler to me, his lumberjack life is his hell on earth, but they you have new blood which reveals he was living happily with a new girlfriend in a nice town, new blood was good but the original ending of living purgatory was a lot more interesting
this theory doesn't have sense, Dexter currently can't be in purgatory because he is clearly more old than the version of himself in the first 8 arcs, spirits can't age, so if Dexter is still growing he is still in a physical body and so he is alive.
It’s very obvious, as you mentioned, with the new blood, that dexter was alive and well. He clearly died at the end of this season to shut all these theories down. Now he’s dead.
This is wrong. This video is like when your Mom said you can't have Oreo's for dinner and throwing a tantrum. Dexter faked his death. Dexter made a new life for himself for obvious selfish reasons. New Blood happened. Is Dexter actually dead at the end of New Blood? I'd allow speculation of that, but debating if New Blood was real is just childish
Dexter has been in a coma since he walked in and found Rita dead
It’s always been my head canon that after he lost Rita he’s been living in his head which is why in seasons 5-8 he almost seems untouchable and doesn’t experience serious consequences till the last episode
He slipped on her blood and cracked his head off the sink and is in a coma

@@Adept_Wigger97Agreed
People who still can't get over the endings are honestly more annoying than the endings themselves
I could not agree more
I just got done with it today on Netflix. And I would just change the part where he isolates himself when he have a kid to take care and his other half
Season 4 was the real ending to the show. Passing on his same tragedy of being born in blood to his son and losing everything.
Agree
Stay quiet please

You know…it really sucks. They fucked both endings up (and last couple of seasons) so badly, that it’s more fun to pretend it didn’t happen.
