I think James has a beautiful voice. He is a big part of DT, a big part of their success. I don't think Images and Words would have been nearly as good with anyone else. All singers stuggle live, that's the nature of the human voice, the guy's not a machine. Give him a break. I've never been disappointed with any studio work he's done, and his solo albums are fantastic. He's one of a kind.
My favourite vibrato of all time and particularly that silky smooth low register. Not heard anyone do that better especially when you consider how high his upper register is. Truly awe inspiring and Almost unbelievably good.
Definitely LaBrie's best times. He still has a decent voice these days, but he was among the best before the food poisoning. Post-vocal incident, I'd say 2005/2006 and 2013 have been his best years vocally. I really can't hear this video the same way after watching the parody lol
I would have had to agree for the majority of the 2000's but he has since got himself into better shape, retook singing lessons and sounds like he is in great form.
Yeah, definitely. He sounded better around Score, then he sounded like rubbish in 2007/2008 (Chaos In Motion was disappointing vocally), and now he's already starting to sound good again. Live at Luna Park was really good vocally.
He was good at Luna Park! But they were in Oslo (Norway) This February, and that was amazing! Seriously, it was just as good as Score. He killed the high notes on songs like scarred, Lifting shadows of a dream etc.
Still, he sounded as good as Score sounded when I saw them live in Norway. To me, that says he's still got it from time to time. Also, I read an interview with LaBrie from 2013, where he says that because of his age and the accident he once had, he doesn't give every song a 100% every show, because that would be too damaging to him.
Its really impressive the way that he hits a D5 in Chest... in those times (80's and beggining of 90's) he could reach a D#5 in chest without any difficulties.. i mean, Just as we can talk any simple note, he could belt a D#5... Its incredible.. i got some bootlegs from 92's and 93's... You know when pavarotti brings his high notes and you see him standing like he was doing something really easy ? Yeah haha thats how LaBrie used to stand on those notes... like "Nothing at all"
Damn...they are amazing. Thanks for putting this up! I have been a fan for 20 years...they have been...they are and will forever be my favorite musicians.
LaBrie is a great singer, he did stuffs back in the 90s that no other singer did... but he had his vocal rupture, and the band wouldnt abandone him just becouse of an accident... He still great, but now he got 40yo and if he don't slow down he would end up Mute... Thats why the newest album songs don't involve any other HIGHER notes or anything else... He still can do it in sage, but making new songs that will drain his fatigue would be the key to a new damage on his chords...
James is my hero... He is everything that made me become the singer that I am... so I own him all my inspiration and all my progress... Thats why I "Worship" him.
To echo the appreciation for James' performance, I myself can't get over how he can deliver that while compressing his breathing by sitting on a chair.
These guys make progressive music because they understand and express all kinds of music this is a good example people think dream theater is motionless just because the listners dont easily get what dream theater makes
My mom used to always play the Mariah Carey version. I showed her this version about 10 years ago and she hasn’t played any other version since. And the woman doesn’t even know a single Dream Theater song.
Woah!!! Lots of metal vocals for a high tenor voice. James LaBrie must be a dramatic tenor or a spinto tenor because the upper register sounds so powerful.
I saw this on American Idol what a slap in the face for one the best voices out there! Proven by attendance at shows! Just proves different strokes for different folks Rock on James!🤘
Words of wisdom =) You're pretty right... I just think that DT used to put more emotion and feelings in their music at this time... Now its most Show Off... Sometimes i miss 90's DT...
I saw him twice this past tour live and he was pretty spot on save a few small notes, he's still got it, I felt he was a little off the tour before but damn, he's still quite the singer.
@demonight2 He was a singing mammoth back in the days... The Winter Rose album, though very melodic and apparently uninspired, just blew my mind because of LaBrie's singing. Truly a great voice.
@@milan13564 It's pre-vocal injury, this was broadcasted on December 1993, and in the same show they made an interview explaining that they were recording Awake. The food poisoning incident was in December 1994 in Cuba, and the first show post-vocal injury was "Awake In Japan '95"
@KKSlider60 Funny thing about those belting and really powerfull notes is that at Live shows they didnt sound so Strong. I bet what used to kill LaBrie was the stage presence haha, I mean, he used to be really wilde, never stop running and screaming for the crowd! I have some Acoustic bootlegs, or some recorded with care and time and all of them LaBrie REAAAALLLLY kicks asses in 100% of the song !
@demonight2 yeah!i heard JP said that in the Chaos in Motion Dvd..right?of course i'm a "HARDCORE" DT Fan!!!i respect them..and by the way, i really like James' voice also when He was in WInter Rose..His range gives me goosebumps..DT 4EVER!!
@thehuntz1 not to mention Petrucci usually uses an acoustic effect on an electric instead of an actual acoustic. But this show is clearly all acoustic, so there's no need for the effect.
Ending the night with an acoustic guitar (Pertuchii Style) and the vocal stylings of DT frontman James LaBrie is like ending a night, Santa Clause style, with cookies and milk, it's just a perfect balance of satisfaction and comfort to end a day a look forward to the morning
@demonight2 Brian is amazing, presence doesn't matter to a player. We are artists, we dont judge on such things. What we are seeking, are the souls attached who present the art. I wont let social needs or expectations, charts, or sales influence what I listen to and respect. 99.1% of people have no idea of what surrounds them. I zero in on the .9.
@deathscythekim729 Sure he got.. specially because of his Belting Technique... James was the best vocalist in the world... not even Bruce Dickinson could follow him... Petrucci says that even with inner ears he can hear LaBrie belting on stage. LaBrie is a GOD !
I think James has a beautiful voice. He is a big part of DT, a big part of their success. I don't think Images and Words would have been nearly as good with anyone else. This rendition of a timeless Christmas favorite shows what an amazing singer James LaBrie is.
I feel bad for Petrucci. He was holding on to dear life to not play millions of notes and shred.
Good job on John's part for not breaking out into a shred solo :P
+Draconequus It was surely hard for him.
more like bad job
Absolutely Amazing...just amazing.
What talent these two men have.
It's no surprise that DT is the ultimate group ever...
Take easy on him, he had a vocal rupture in 95 and another one in 2000, its a gods blessing that he still can sing on nwodays after all what he passed
THIS IS A REALLY BEAUTIFUL VOICE... REALLY AMAZING! THIS IS THE VOICE OF DT... JAMES IS THE BEST FOR THE BAND. DEAL WITH IT!
My favourite vibrato of all time and particularly that silky smooth low register. Not heard anyone do that better especially when you consider how high his upper register is. Truly awe inspiring and Almost unbelievably good.

LeeHasselhoff Score was overdubbed my friend =( Sorry to tell that =( Unfortunally it was re-recorded on studio before going to DVD...
James' voice WOWWWW. Giving it all for our Saviour Jesus Christ 🙏🇭🇷🙏
Amen 🙏
Amen🙏
I don't care what anyone says, Labrie WAS, and still IS the best for the band!
Marcelo Henrique yeah, that's true. Labrie was, and still the heart of DT
Jep, he was, is and will ever be the best singer for Dream Theater
Who is saying anything diferent?
he is the best vocalist in the world with Tony Harnell
Respect for not going the way of Steve Perry. Check Journey Frontiers(the song) and compare it to Don't Stop Believing.
Its really impressive the way that he hits a D5 in Chest... in those times (80's and beggining of 90's) he could reach a D#5 in chest without any difficulties.. i mean, Just as we can talk any simple note, he could belt a D#5...

"Faaaall on yoh nehhhhhs..." Epic voice of LaBrie *wipes tears*
its called vowel modification my guy
Look how distant was JLB from the mic and how powerfull he sounds... What a voice
I love coming back to this video every holiday season ❤️🎄 James is a singing god.
wow this is LaBrie golden era! Yes it was!
Damn...they are amazing. Thanks for putting this up!
I have been a fan for 20 years...they have been...they are and will forever be my favorite musicians.
That was earthshatteringly amazing ! James La Brie sang it full blast pitch perfect filled with emotion This is a masterpiece
James........you will always be one of the best!!!!.....awesome!
90's clothing was awesome lol. btw good as usual from james and john.
LaBrie is a great singer, he did stuffs back in the 90s that no other singer did... but he had his vocal rupture, and the band wouldnt abandone him just becouse of an accident...

OH MY FUNKING GOD!! Beautiful!...FEEL JAMES' POWER!!!
damn sound of angel
James is my hero... He is everything that made me become the singer that I am... so I own him all my inspiration and all my progress... Thats why I "Worship" him.
To echo the appreciation for James' performance, I myself can't get over how he can deliver that while compressing his breathing by sitting on a chair.
Awesome! Would love DT to put out a Christmas album someday!
Awesome! Love it and love DT! Labrie's voice gives me goosebums and... Petrucci not shredding sounds weird
Amazing voice OMG!
It's great, i have this song with my other christmas songs for the holidays, even the acoustic dream's songs fit well with the chistmas mood
I'm not a Christian. I didnt know that this is a gospel song. But James LaBrie's voice is so beautiful.
These guys make progressive music because they understand and express all kinds of music
this is a good example
people think dream theater is motionless just because the listners dont easily get what dream theater makes
I always get chills hearing these guys nail this. That and their atrocious shirts.
Merry Christmas, awesome! damn miss d old times!
Haleluyah...prays the lord...🙏👍Jesus bless dream theatre
Anyone else who just found this amazing upload? Magical 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This kind of songs just make me proud to be alive. As always James Labrie is superb, and what can I say about John Pretucci? This is just awesome.
My mom used to always play the Mariah Carey version. I showed her this version about 10 years ago and she hasn’t played any other version since. And the woman doesn’t even know a single Dream Theater song.
Awesome stuff
Woah!!! Lots of metal vocals for a high tenor voice. James LaBrie must be a dramatic tenor or a spinto tenor because the upper register sounds so powerful.
i would guess he’s a spinto
@Proghead26 Well put...you are absolutely correct.
They are the best at what they do...and we are blessed to be able to hear them.
I saw this on American Idol what a slap in the face for one the best voices out there! Proven by attendance at shows! Just proves different strokes for different folks Rock on James!🤘
That Was a fake video 😂
Words of wisdom =) You're pretty right...

Yes, it's '93. According to James it was done for a Christmas special on Rhode Island.
Two amazing musicians...thats it!
John Petrucci must be so happy that James is singing a song about him :D
Cuek !
Coz jesus playing guitar..
LOVE YOU BALRIEEE ! very nice voice!
this is fucking awesome performance.. gotta love those harmonies man
Epic, my first of all Christmas song 4ever
james has a great voice. very unique technique
@demonight2 He was a singing mammoth back in the days... The Winter Rose album, though very melodic and apparently uninspired, just blew my mind because of LaBrie's singing.
Truly a great voice.
Merry Christmas from Sweden!
Is this pre-vocal injury? James sounds fucking godly here.
This is post the first vocal injury.
Snipy wrong
@@milan13564 It's pre-vocal injury, this was broadcasted on December 1993, and in the same show they made an interview explaining that they were recording Awake. The food poisoning incident was in December 1994 in Cuba, and the first show post-vocal injury was "Awake In Japan '95"
Just think if he never ate that bad shrimp.....
@KKSlider60 Funny thing about those belting and really powerfull notes is that at Live shows they didnt sound so Strong.

John Petrucci, you touched my heart! XD lol..
BEST 'holy night' i ever heard
I remember seeing this live when I was a kid living in southern mass. Was great then and is great now.
same
@demonight2 yeah!i heard JP said that in the Chaos in Motion Dvd..right?of course i'm a "HARDCORE" DT Fan!!!i respect them..and by the way, i really like James' voice also when He was in WInter Rose..His range gives me goosebumps..DT 4EVER!!

I get chills every time
Now I'll have to watch it again
A melhor versão desse hino disparadamente
Amém
awesome !! new favorite version of my favorite christmas song ^_^
Really impressive performance by James LaBrie here.
Wow. I got a little weepy there for a second. Gorgeous.
¡¡¡¡¡oh holy night¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
when Petrucci was born¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Thats not even funny
Of course it's not funny, you do not joke about the birth of God Petrucci.
This song is so difficult it takes a metal singer or a classically trained tenor to pull it off
This is the first time I have ever saw Petrucci playing an acoustic.
Ending the night with an acoustic guitar (Pertuchii Style) and the vocal stylings of DT frontman James LaBrie is like ending a night, Santa Clause style, with cookies and milk, it's just a perfect balance of satisfaction and comfort to end a day a look forward to the morning
Shalom from Indonesia.
DT singing rock !!!! Amazing, nice, reminds of Skid Row, Dokken....
simply beautiful
Happy birthday Jesus
par de perfecciones de la vida, los amo♥
I’m here every year. Merry Christmas everyone!
Merry Christmas 🎄
Amen
Awesome to hear them sing about Jesus Christ!
Thanks man ! James THE great !
This makes me smile.

Still the best voice I've ever heard.
@deathscythekim729 Sure he got.. specially because of his Belting Technique...
James was the best vocalist in the world... not even Bruce Dickinson could follow him...
Petrucci says that even with inner ears he can hear LaBrie belting on stage.
LaBrie is a GOD !
@ironwolg it was from a 94HJY (RI radio station) Christmas auction back in the early 90's
best labrie´s performance
mi vengono i brividi ! un genio una voce unica !
2024...James was a monster..
Amazing God bless you all
Just beautiful

Nobody can sing as good as James LaBrie

When Jesus plays guitar for His own birthday song.
Hahahahaha

Amazing
Ohh okay!! John actually play chords like normal human.😄
fantastic... genius
@demonight2 look at the distance between and the mic...He's got real powerful voice!
shows how much you know merry christmas
This is my favorite rendition of any Christmas song, ever. All you LaBrie haters can stuff it in your stockings. 😉 Merry Christmas!
I'd love to have an accurate transcription of THIS version of 'Oh Holy Night'.
Not your typical strum-strum G, C, D song when JP plays it.
2023 Christmas
