I was picking up my trombone from school and a janitor was cleaning, he said he has the instrument I had and then explained how he used to have a trombone with valves and a slide. He actually had a superbone. Crazy
Did you give it back? LOL
That's a later version of the Holton superbone. There's a brace holding the slide to the valve body which stands out - I designed it, as the previous version was made from an extrusion which was no longer available.
Superbone was my nickname in college.
I watched Bill Tole play Flight of the Bumblebee on a regular trombone. It did help that he knew circular breathing.
I saw him demonstrate circular breathing with my own eyes, and watched him play Flight at the same event. So it isn't a "my best friend's cousin's barber's second eldest stepson saw..." situation. It really happened, and I watched him do it.
It wasn't staged or miked or synched. He visited my high school and gave a special presentation to the brass players (of which I was one), so there was no way for him to dummy it up.
I wouldn't stress it so much, but the Internet is a huge "show receipts" kind of place. This was around 40+ years ago, so no receipts.
Sounds more like a euphonium than a trombone
Yeah it’s weird
An instrument will take on the tonal qualities of a valved instrument when you add valves.
@@ajhauter5049flugabone would like to have a word :)
This is also highly useful because you could probably move the slide while a valve is down, making it really good for key changes.
And jazz soloes. Alot of licks will be played down a half step so if you finger it and move it down a slide position that would be crazy
@@MusicalBlam and the innovations bro 😭😭😭
When a euphonium and a trombone mated... ...
Why am I laughing at this
Have you ever heard of a trombonium?
Trombone singalong best peice of metal.
He looks so satisfied like myself on christmas when i was younger
So nice
The smile😂
trumpet that sounds like trombone that can gliss poggers
what can you do with it? You can play kickass salsa music like Willie Colon (edit, Colón lol)
The ó in Colón is fairly necessary in this case lol😂
@@BrassPlayr borrowing your ó
That looks like a trombonieum
Basically you demonstrated it only as a valve trombone.
i’ve always wanted to see one in person, but i’ll take this for now thanks trent!
My band director in high school had a superbone. Fun as hell to play
Bro I know someone who plays mellophone but he used to play an actual superbone. I hope he still has it
Супер, прикольная дудка!!!❤️
Sounds like the tornado thing from the wizard of oz
I wanna play the compensating f horn behind you every time I see it and oh nice superbone lol
It was great in the hands of Maynard. But, Ashley Alexander was even greater on the SuperBone
I saw Maynard play it, I also worked at Holton and the designer, Larry Ramirez said Maynard never used it to it's full potential.
Haha! Sounds like toots!
Time to bring out an ophicleide.
The fabled trumbone
Your superbone is a superb one
Your accent got me totally screwed up for a second. When you said the word "viewer" I heard "fuhrer" (y'know, Hitler's title) and I was very surprised that not only was he a fan of the trombone but he was a big enough fan of you to send you his
Needs flight of the bumble glissando
Have you ever wanted to play Flight of The Bumblebee on Trombone and haven't quite managed it? Well get one of these and still don't manage it by forgoing the slide and playing like a trumpet instead! Nice demonstration of both the valves and a slide!
I love how he said you can use the slide and the valves the proceeds to not use the slide once
Interesting, Superbone was my nickname in college
I think the coolest thing about this is that I feel you'd be able to play in different keys by either moving the slide out a couple positions like Eb and then using the valves to play or vice versa
It would be weird to get used to playing like that but it would be cool
I had a superbone and quickly traded it for a Bach 42B
Smart choice
If the trumpet and trombone had a baby:
how to play the lowest note of any trombone family instrument: step one-grab a superbone. step 2-put slide in 7th position. step 3-put all 3 valves all the way down. step 4, widen your embouchure as much as possible while keeping it in the mouth piece. step 5- play with very slow buzzing
So they basically weldid half a trumpet to a trombones
Love it!!!
now i can say that i am a orchestra
nice short!
Glorified Trumpet with a built in tuning slide
I just can’t imagine how hard it is to learn this
I’d imagine that would help change the trombone to different keys too
i'm a guitar player, but dang i like the superbone!
I been a trumpet player for 7 years and I’m just now seeing this what the fuck
Do you have Barriton 3 Valve
I have a stagg superbone. Unfortunately it seems to be left hand valves.
You didn’t demonstrate the slide so I’ll have to knock one point off 😅
That was cool
that's when you use a baritone
That’s really cool
Interesting. Is that set up as a left hand instrument or is video mirrored?
The video is mirrored.
“OG” supperbone
Maynard Ferguson!!
Where can you get one?
Just put that trombone music in treble C and I'll play it
I need that trombone I must have it … it’s beautiful ❤❤
I wish I could have one
you look like sebastian vettel 🤣
Yes, in every way except for visually.
Is it lower than Bflat ? Because of the extra tubing
There’s not any extra tubing when all the valves are open
Without any valves it would be in Bb, but you could use the valves like you would triggers on a trigger trombone or bass trombone and put it as low as E, so not as low as a bass trombone can go (D or sometimes Eb), but pretty close
@@cookie0329 well i guess you could use the slide in conjunction with the valves to bridge to the pedals?
Where you get this stuff?! Cuz now I want one lol.
But like how would it work, can u use both the keys and the slide and if u use them at the same time how do u like calculate what more u get
Super
Can you still use a plunger mute on a superbone?
Does the slide move?
slide and button combinations?
Didn’t demonstrate the slide!
Please tell me your going to make a video on this
Can you combine the two systems for the same note? I mean, play something by fingering the notes using the pistons and the slide at the same time?
yes
Can you still use the slide?
If you can play it slowly
👍👍
or, get this. Play baritone
I gave your mom the super bone AYOOOO
*drops it*
I forgot what you are talking about
@@marten594 lol the tuba he dropped that one time that was from a museum I believe
Does slide move
Soo... the point of the slide is...
But... You didn't use the slide
So now u get to say u blew into a superboner
I prefer peacebone........
I want it I want it where do I get it
Can you use both at once?
Yes
@@TrentHamilton could you demonstrate in a video
where are you from?
you said PLEASE- aunt rather than plez-ant.
Don’t drop it
What is your mouthpiece please ?
And it is left-handed?
No, video was mirrored.
Can U send me one as well please
Wau
A New Zealander masquerading as an Aussie. The word ‘this’ is a dead giveaway, it’s not pronounced ‘thus’, it’s pronounced this! Work on it.
We’ll you have a superbone and I have a superboner
Who's the skinny guy on Trent's channel?
That’s the new and improved Trent Hamilton. He has lost weight recently.
