This is one of the most complete, tough, rewarding and brilliant experience i had so far in the year, is amazing how this little game offers so much more than AAA games.
Glad to see Huber finally got to become a true Sifu to get the review going 👍 This game is something real special, and it feels so good to have been excited for this to come out and have it meet all my expectations. They wanted this game to be an homage to kickass action/martial arts flicks, and I think they delivered in full. It's a brutal, relentless journey without mercy, but it's a blast the whole time. I FINALLY beat The Club this morning, so I'm looking forward to... eventually beating this game!
First review that recognizes the game’s featured martial art style of Pak Mei Kung Fu = 10/10. Pak Mei (also known as White Eyebrows) Kung Fu, was also featured in the Kill Bill films. I also heard a Cantonese VO track to Sifu is coming.
Can I just say for future reference: I don't care how long it takes for you guys to review games. I understand that most times, it's better to get the review out early at launch to catch traffic, but at the end of the day, I appreciate when I don't feel like reviewers rushed through a game or didn't finish it and gave an opinion. It creates a sense that they aren't being thorough enough. As was the case with some Horizon Forbidden West reviews. So I'm glad you took the time to finish the game Huber, and Easy Allies will always have my views.
Great review Huber as always. I wish they did the camera better, seriously. Sometimes it's so distracting to me it's immersion breaking. But otherwise, this is some pure gameplay experience.
I think the camera works well for this kind of game. A challenging experience where your camera placement and control are part of your skill in it and detriment if your bad at it.
@@zackrose6261 I disagree. I NEEDED to get used to the camera. That shouldn’t even be a thing in any video game. The camera needs to be designed such that it assists you in combat by giving you 100% situational awareness most of the time from the beginning. That wasn’t the case here, chiefly being if the camera hits a wall and gives you too much of a close up you can’t see everything anymore. I needed to develop an intuition for when the camera was going to hinder my combat and adjust it accordingly, taking up some reaction time that could’ve been spent avoiding a fatal blow. That’s a design problem that they didn’t solve. Granted, I don’t know what they could’ve done to fix this issue as the camera being all over the place once it hits a wall has been an cardinal video game issue since the dawn of all video games, but they still should’ve done something in this regard somehow since this game is very demanding gameplay-wise. Still though, for me critically the game is 8/10 due to this camera issue. It didn’t hurt by the end, even though it should never have, so it’s not a huge problem in the grand scheme of things.
@@yoloalchemist Personally, a camera should be of two things. it either assists, or works as a tool the player has to master as well. I personally don't feel like a game like sifu should have a camera that just assists the player in surrounding awareness.
@@yoloalchemist Yea, I don't think that camera issue with walls will be fixed for a long time in video games. Some games have some roundabout ways of fixing that by just having the spot disappear for the camera, but that can lead to other issues.
As a competitive fighting gamer, I wish more action games put as much effort/challenge into their 1-player combat systems as Sloclap and Team Ninja do.
Great review. I’m waiting for physical copies (release in May) but it’s nice to see a brawler-martial arts games like Sifu again. I hope it’s inspired more devs to do more brawler-martial arts games. Man i missed Jackie Chan stuntmaster, Sleeping Dogs, Urban Reign, God Hand, and the old Yakuza pre-Y7 😔
I've been favoring easy mode for a long time. But I can appreciate games like Metroid Dread, Sifu, Demon's Souls. Games that offer varying levels of greater difficulty for the reward of repeated play and mastery.
@@NigelMelanisticSmith Fair lol, But at the end of the year we know Brandon gonna have to go in on that easy mode and there is absolutely no shame in that.
Glad to finally see this review! I stopped playing cause it has felt so difficult for me lol i cant even get passed the second level without going over 40
I hope you go back to it. Failure isn’t a bad thing. It’s part of the experience. As someone who studied ACTUAL Kung Fu for over a decade, it’s al the same thing. Success and failure. It’s just about where you love the “doing”.
thank you for not putting any of the side-scrolling segments in this review you can't really "spoil" a game like this, but the side-scroll section in the first level had me shouting, and the fact that i didn't know it was coming amplified its effect as someone who grew up adoring Jackie Chan and practically everything Raymond Chow touched with Golden Harvest, this game is absolute bliss great review, huber
Awesome game, I’m on the last boss. 1st and 2nd level I finished while being 22. I always dodge, I never parry. These fighting mechanics are something else 👌
So Huber finally managed to finish it then, good going Huber L&R, i can't get past the second level so i'm having a little break and trying to pass Camellia's What the Cat on Normal on Beat Saber and that's tough as well i can't do the last 30 flipping seconds :'D

Supported them before the review dropped. Games like this have been a rarity from the days of Jackie chan stuntmasters. Hope they make enough so we can see what they do next!
Ha ha Before watching this, I thought that in this game when you get older was because after you lose, you run away to train a few more years then come back for another shot and for some reason those enemies are still stay there waiting for you. I guess magic amulet that revive you makes a lot more sense.
as a fighting game player this game was a blast but i can totally see how people outside of the genre run into a wall of frustration luckily it was popular with streamers so they could learn that way how to play it doesnt really accommodate absolute beginners

I know its a beat em up,aka final fight type, but wish had better story and characters like npc I can interact with.I hope in 2 they can have better story with combat.plus, dont make sound effects sound like I'm hitting a pillow
So true, this is by far the best beat em up that truly gives us something new, I love my old schools including the upcoming Tmnt game but this is what I've been craving from the beat em up genre.
I think a 9/10 is fair. Sifu was really good but i think they could've added a bit more content or options for replayability (harder difficulty, different enemy placements, maybe some challenge modes). I think for me personally, that would've made it closer to a 10.
Its a good game but I personally think its more of a 7 than a 9. Too many issues with the camera and too many inconsistencies when trying to read enemy attacks really hurt the game for me (for instance attacks that you have to parry glow the exact same way as attacks that you are required to dodge, which is just weird). Overall its a step forward from Absolver, but the developer still has a lot of work to do when delivering satisfying mechanics.
@@paullucci What I meant was that there are certain unblockable attacks, and some need to be parried while others need to be dodged. The problem is that they both glow the same way. This makes some fights very hard to read, particuarly boss fights which i dont think are that well designed in general.
I wish you’d said “challenging” instead of “hard”. “Hard” is more of a judgement call and up to individual perceptions. Meanwhile “challenge” is what built the industry. The original NES was sold as the “Challenge Set” and the box for the original Legend Of Zelda lists “challenge” in it 3 times as a selling point. This game legit ruined all other 3D brawler for me. Sleeping Dogs, Arkham, Mad Max.. all feel like child's play now. It requires smart play and total mastery from the player, things that those other games severely lacked.
While I think the commenter above me is super right, I do agree with you on Sifu replacing all other 3D beat-em-up brawlers for myself. I went to those games for my doses of rad melee action, but now, Sifu really does feel like a sort of culmination of the genre. That, or at least a revitalizing of it. Now that this game is out, Midnight Fight Express should be on any 3D brawler fan's radar.
