I graduated high school in 1980 ... what year for movies: Caddyshack, The Blues Brothers, Airplane, The Shining, etc. We had it so good.

1980 might might have been the best year ever for movies. Those above plus The Empire Strikes Back, Urban Cowboy, 9 to 5, Cheech and Chong's Next Movie....

I reckon they just let Dangerfield loose in the dining room and just filmed the comedic magic. That scene is freakin' hilarious!
So much of this movie was improvised, which made Ted Knight unhappy. All the tension toward Al Czervic was not made up - Ted Knight really didn't like Rodney Dangerfield. Bill Murray's "Cinderella" story scene was actually improvised from a page of stage directions.

Allison Venezio Interesting I didn't know that. I have to say in a film full of comedians I thought Ted Knight had one of the best comedic performances in the entire movie, his stuffy exasperation played to a tee. The fact that he really may have been pissed off with Dangerfield makes it even better somehow.
Azure Agreed, it made the tension between them hilarious and believable! I really do like Ted Knight though, he was hilarious!

Only Dangerfield. Think about the line..."Hey Everybody"...."We're All Gonna Get Laid!!" Absurd, preposterous, true, and blue at the same time. One of the best lines in the movie and only because it was delivered by Rodney Dangerfield. One of the original GODS of comedy.

Just read where almost all of Bill Murray's, Chevy Chase's and Rodney Dangerfield's scenes were ad-libbed. The movie was originally supposed to be all about Danny Noonan but the ad-libbed scenes were so good they decided to change the focus of the movie.

One of the best movies of all time. They even have a caddyshack trivia game. RIP Harold Ramis. This is a movie I could watch 3 times in a row and never get tired of it.
I was in middle school when this movie came out and found it hilarious.... A great comedy

I use that last line frequently when my wife tells me to shut up. It drives her crazy when I do that.

Rodney, Chevy, Bill Murray, and Ted Knight are all at the top of their games, playing at a legendary level
but then, there's a bunch of small characters who were hilarious
I recall the documentary about the making of "Caddyshack." And I'm still trying to forget the sequels. Like "Grease" and "Animal House" it was a raucous, on-time-only production in which a whole bunch of whack-jobs get thrown together, feed off each other's craziness and somehow manage to pull together a coherent project.
Funny thing is the story was initially about Danny and the caddies, but once Chase, Dangerfield, Knight and Murray got cast, it became more about them.

Best and funniest movie ever made! My friend worked for the theater company in our hometown when this movie came out and we saw 18 times for free! What a great summer that was!!

I worked in a Pro Shop, and this total smartass of a guest (a first-time visitor) at the semi-private country club I worked at walked into the shop saying this. He had everyone laughing. Caddyshack was the golf department's bible and we all quoted from it. Our boss was on vacation one time, and the movie was showing on the Golf Channel. It was the one time EVERYONE wanted to watch the Golf Channel!!!

True. The night golf scene was the only scene they had any interactions. Murray filmed all of his scenes in about 2 weeks and bolted. Chevy Chase is a total egomaniac. And a complete asshole.
Ted Knight deserved an oscar nomination for this performance he is simple brilliant

I think Caddyshack and Airplane just by being insanely funny, both the earliest movies of the 80s and out of Respect for them, They will always be the two funniest movies ever made to me.
