So joining the Xanathar gang is like when a random shmug in Gotham decides:"Y'know what? I join the Joker's Gang. What could possibly go wrong?" Cool:)
I play Xanathar as don Vito Corleone but with bursts of random and inexplicable bouts of rage, sadness, but calmness when it comes to Sylgar.... Should my players kills Sylgar or anything were to happen to him and before Xanathar goes berserk... he shall utter the words: *”Look at how they massacred my boy...”*
@@Fuyutsuru knowing that the current Xanathar considers the fish his most treasured possession, but is by nature a delusional lunatic, it could honestly go either way.
Maybe he could give Sylgar: 1. A (at least slightly) bigger aquarium, so he isn't confined like a madman in an asylum, 2. Something inside of it (sand, water plants), so the fish has something different to do and look at, 3. Some place Sylgar can sleep in (like a model castle, or maybe a hollowed out branch part) so that he has some shade and a place for privacy. I ain't an aquaristics expert, but that's what i would do. Also, _Purify Food and Drink_ cast on Sylgar's aquarium water at least once daily, while Sylgar chills in a temporary aquarium.
This vid amuses me to no end cause I'm getting ready to run an adventure that starts with the party being press ganged into saving Sylgar who has been fishnapped, because Xanathar is besides himself with grief.
Pretty petty considering he's effectively administrated our economy and throwing out terrible deals former Presidents made. Anyway I think its funny that Hillary lost with the media and media companies on her side, but apparently facebook Russian ads and hackers had such a huge effect on our minds that we were bamboozled. That's how stupid they think the general population is. Thats how little respect they give the general population of the U.S. Globalist scum.
No...Zom nailed it on the head. Most of the world lost its respect for the leadership of "Waterdeep" a long time ago. If anything, Xanathars "administration" has inspired a small amount of pity from the citizens of other nations. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence will realize that the Orange Pond Scum, as you put it, is not good for anyone.
Being an insane boss, I think it would be funny to take a page from Undercover Boss. Xanather could decide that he wants to pretend to be a new thief in his organization. Players could cross paths with this gang with Xanather trying to be a new thief. Worse would be if one of the players is a guild thief and is assigned the new recruit to bring along.
So who else had the idea of take the fish hostage an when you give the fish back to Xanathar instead of just giving the fish you bring a large tank filled with all of the same kind of fish. You still give Xanathar his fish back but you also give a bunch of similar fish an no indication of who is who.
I like to imagine that the Xanathar has a voice like Brother Theodore's take on Gollum from the Rankin-Bass Hobbit/Return of the King. You know, the maniacal intesnsity, the mumbling to itself, the occasional screaming.
I'm so exited for this campaign! I've been waiting for a RP heavy adventure within a big city and Skullport and Undermountain are just icing on the cake. I wonder when this book will be released..
This is the third time 5e puts a beholder on a cover (MM, XGtE, and now W:DH). All three were credited as the Xanathar, though the MM one seems to be a different Xanathar. Still, they really love that character.
I honestly added Xanathar into my game, and had my party do a "job" for him, recovering a magical artifact, that he had no idea what it was or what it did, but it was in the hands of Frost Giants, and by god, HE WANTED IT! It also let me mess with the party, because if they hadn't done this job for him, he'd make sure there were bounties on all of their heads in every city on the Sword Coast!
When I bought both SSI PC RPG classics to be, Eye of the Beholder and Pool of Radiance in the early 90's, at the same time I was buying an Amiga 500 to play them on, I couldn't have foreseen that a quarter century later, I would be watching a TH-cam video about a book about the boss at the end of EoB1. The other character thinks Xanither might be her father, quite how a beholder could mate with an elf the create a tiefling is one of the things about this backstory that the player and I have yet to work out

I think people are just tired of real world politics getting referenced in fiction or escapism. It's not hard to see why even moderates find trump references grating at this point. I don't care about Perkins views, and I dislike trump, but I think thats the general opinion.
But . . . Xanathar has *always* been kinda off. Not that you can tell with beholders, since they're secretive and paranoid already. This isn't so much "making the game over for the sake of RL politics jabs" as pointing to reality and going "kinda like that". Which isn't uncommon, though I wish Weisman would stop pointing to the fall of the Roman Empire as the analogue for the Star League falling. Doesn't quite fit . . .

I just feel like i cant compete with wizards sadly so i probably will abandon it now.
I just hope the actual model isn't full of US political references I dont play d&d to learn what an author thinks about politicians I do it to escape reality and have fun with my friends for a time.
You aren't going to find literature without some sort of commentary on the politics of that era. That said, I wish they would have woven it in, instead of using a hammer. Most of the module seems to be pretty tame (that I've played), but don't be surprised to find thinly veiled Trump quotes by Xanathar.
Oh my god, he's right. I was never going to include Xanathar in a game just because I couldn't think of a way to actually run him. But using Trump as a reference, I have a place to start!
Hey, one of my home game rules, and one of my west marches rules is to keep politics out of play. You don't help us as players by undermining that common sense rule in your marketing material. If you're making a game about enjoying stories together regardless of race, color, or creed, don't let your employees grandstand their politics in official company press.
So you have a house rule therefore they have to adhere to it? I'm struggling to make sense of that. It was a subtle remark and quite funny. Lighten up!
If you don't want them to be at all political then you're just not understanding how creative minds work. People get their inspiration from real life in one way or another. They happened to be working on Xanathar while we're in an administration that feels very similar. This is reminding me of people who were mad at people of color and women being depicted as heroes and warriors in the player's handbook a few years ago. Or people who got mad that the player's handbook said that you can play someone who is of any gender or sexuality, not to mention the newer addition to the 5e books that talked about the blessing some elves have where they are able to change their sex characteristics at the end of a long rest. Anything that is created by people is going to have some sort of influence by the outside world. This isn't a bubble. Not explicitly including these things would both feel wrong, but would also be a political statement of itself. Besides, it's one metaphor from one person involved. He's not saying you have to start talking about building a racist wall or try to repeal the rights of LGBTQ+ people, but he's pulling back the curtain a little bit in what he drew his inspiration from. A DM doesn't have to draw the same inspiration, but it's an option you might want to look at.
Joshua Fogg Yeah I can understand that. I personally don't mind, but I see why people are a bit peeved. To be honest though, sometimes you just gotta lighten up a little.
It's good to have tropes. For any DM who is playing Xanathar it's likely they are going to go with the most famous narcissist in the world, who just happens to be a politician.
Not a fan of WotC getting so overtly political. Keep your politics out of my fantasy game please, I play fantasy games to ESCAPE reality, not to have my nose rubbed in your real-world political leanings.
Yeah, I found a little bit about Silgar dying occasionally to be quite charming and funny. I was going to share it with the PCs that I DM for. Then I heard Perkins (who I absolutely love and respect as a storyteller) unprofessionally reference the PotUS. I do not have warm and cuddly feelings for the president, however I do not think that this is a good plan for a company, and it's chief representatives to engage, not just in politics but in mudslinging to a very diverse customer base while actively selling their products. I have done sales before, and I know good and well you don't bring up several issues with customers it's just not a good policy. An everyman who gets along with everyone is a better salesman. I love you Mr. Perkins, but when the only thing you sell is words you had better choose yours more carefully.
I love the idea that when the fish dies the Xanathar guild try to replace it without the beholder knowing XD
i just wonder how hard ist too find somebody to cast a immortality or long live type spell on the damn fish
he'll spot the magic being cast in his lair without his permission and this is gonna end baaaaad
not if you cast before you make the switch
Who is the unfortunate underling they send to a Archmage asking if they can cast immortality on a fish......XD
a party of adventures of course how think it is a gift for centric noble
Silgar is not a name, it's a title. It is only given to the fish that are truly worthy.
First rule of Waterdeep, never touch Xanathar's fish.
And yet one of my characters did, hence her never being able to set foot in the city again without extreme risk of losing her life.
I thought the first rule of Waterdeep was that we do not talk about Waterdeep.

Silgar is actually an ancient, but adorable, aboleth and it is Xanathar that serves him.

Cartoonking1 Nah, Xanathar has been that way for a long time, I think he was just making a joke.
Xanathar is not a new character.
Samuel Fujita But did it have to be political? IRL politics is one of the many things that people are trying to *_avoid_* by playing D&D and the like.
Killary?
