Eventually the Spartans did swallow their pride and build a wall to protect their city shortly before it finally fell.
They were merely a shadow of their former self with less then 1000 men also did they because we have no ruins of any wall build in the area although tbh we only have about 2or 3 Spartan ruins the acropolis or theater and the temple of Leonidas and maybe some sort of tower
@@Summercamp1sland Nabis and a few other post-Boetian War Spartan leaders seem to have at least tried to build walls as a propaganda tool but I don't think they had much more than a wooden pallisade.
@@hyperion3145 makes sense
walls were eventually erected around 184 BC, but this was long after Spartan power and influence with had faded within Greece itself.
@@Summercamp1sland visited the acropolis last month, beautiful up there
Can't go wrong with a Rome 2 Battles to be honest my favourites to watch. Thanks for the amazing comentating Apollo!
Hi Apollo,
It’s so sad to see the views dropping to this number. I just hope that you’re not gonna stop. Even though it may remain fewer of us, but these videos are such a relief after a hard day.
Thank you!
This is what I was raised on. I just keep watching ur videos and today I found that you replied to one of my comments 5 months ago. Makes me happy and proud. Love you ❤🎉
This was a very fun game i played as athens (byzantine) and it was wos so we couldnt get any thorax etc but still kinda close
What does wos mean? Im not that much into tw pvp
@@LeroxYT wrath of sparta dlc
@@Pyrrhus_gg ah ohhh wait so in the dlc you cant get Thorax?
@@LeroxYT yes I can only get like 4 different melee units and 3 of them are bad
15:05 Apollo it could’ve been baby oil and as we know from 300 Spartans love themselves some baby oil on their abs
Is apollos commentary during tw battles the best? No. Is he frustrating here and there? Ya sometimes, but we are all human. But apollo forever will be my favorite AND most watched tw youtuber. Love apollo. The true reason I got into tw in the first place watching third age when I was just a youngster. Love you apollo, please never stop tw even tho CA is garbage.
i was missing these rome 2 battles, now i have my feed full of 4 years old rome 2 videos from apollo xD
Nice intro, really good overview, sets a great context for the battle, thanx Apollo
Great video! I love the old rivalry between Sparta and Athens. Currently I'm playing a Rome 2 DEI Athens Campaign.
Man , the Biotian Leuge units are some of the best , they have good infantry and an increased amount of cavalary units , that gives them an edge over the opponent in the campaigns .
The only difference between then and Athens and corinth is theban hippeus bcs otherwise the roster is the exact same no differences
Appolo’s back, two straight bangers 🎉
Also, Apollo can you do a second battle for independence on the next Fourth of July?
Love you pixelated apollo, 30 seconds since the video was released and im here!
Sparta. Tragey in motion. Complete story, not a lot left in ruins.
Apollo, god of light and music, On Olympus, his home, shines with splendor. But war, that relentless shadow, Also touches him, awakening his pain.
With lyre in hand, he sings verses, Poetry that flows like rivers of silver. But when the fields are stained with blood, Apollo remains silent, his heart recants.
He saw Troy fall, walls crumble, And Achilles' heel struck by the arrow. The laurel, symbol of triumph, crowned his head, But the war left marks, wounds that cannot be undone.
Thus Apollo, multifaceted god, Dances between the light and shadows of battle. His silver bow, now silent, Keeps secrets from a god who also suffers and fails.
Ty whenever I am bored I find your videos and they make my day ❤
Please get this man to 1 million he deserves it so much
Defending has become such a challenge in Rome 2 if not the tower ballista cheese at all the defendable wall spots it's some other form of cheese
Hi Pixelated ty for ur work. Love Sparta I did 4 or 5 campaign with them
a good old battle enjoyed watching
GAME RECOMMENDATION!!!
Hey Apollo there is a game you have not played on the channel called “Yes Your Grace”. Brief breakdown… it’s a game where you are the king and make decisions for your kingdom with your decisions leading to your ending. Seeing as your are the best role play TH-camr on the platform you would make this story and game so amazing to watch. Please check it out and hopefully one day we’ll get a play through!
Apollo!!!!! the goat. Can't wait for you to hit 1M
keep the videos going Apollo! Watching you over 6 years now!
nice battle i always like to watch your videos i have been playing it for a while now i always wonder how people get those new factions like the inmortals and goth and many more
Love your Rome 2 vids thank you so much Apollo
@pixelatedappollo how do we send in battle play throughs I got a land battle where I play as the roxaloni in a 3v3 and it's to the wire crazy.
"Where sparta now?" Apparently in your head.. Molon labe!!
U should do the siege of troy for a video I know many would enjoy and when is ep 17 of fall of the samurai coming
Really enjoyed the battle man great job
love this guy
Aaah back to the siege battles
What laptop i need so i can play without any lag
Does anyone know if there are any mods that are used while he streams? Like if it’s just vanilla gameplay or modded
This game was vanilla dlc wraith of sparta
@@nella_jt4353 thank you
I normaly cant join your live streams because when they start its already midnight for me
Apollo nice battle as always where's shogun 2 azu
I would love to participate in a battle, i dont really play PvP, but i found myself a pretty funny and interesting to use army. Tho i currently forgot the name of the main unit in it, they are spear, can form square, are a mid unit and have alot of pilum capacity. Pretty good because they can Support each other in combat and have fairly good shields i guess.
You’re on a roll Apollo! Keep it up!
Is multi-player big on Rome 2 lookin for historical to play in multi-player no one plays Troy or 3 kingdoms
you should recreate the battle of Jerusalem during the first crusade in a 3v3
Why cant we start to see you yourself play? That would be way more fun
Go back and look at previous videos.
Conqueror's Blade has greek season now as well maybe you cover this game at some time ;)
why arent they limited to actually like 45 aarows
Too op
thought i was going to see a rare defender win for a while
Beautiful map
Fun Fact: Sparta worship the god of war Ares and Athens worship the other god of war Athena.. so this is another Ares vs Athena thing
I am still watching ur vids, im not gone
Hi Pixie 1 minute release and im here for you
Another online battle yesss
🔥🔥🔥
12:25 a lot of that stuff is just stories the Spartan slaves were honestly treated better then many other areas of Greece at the time being allowed to keep 50% of what they produced and being allowed to have a family
wheres the shogun 2
will game chat ever return in rome II?
Words are hard. 🥲
Love the rome 2
I wish i could do this with real players, it just that i would get destroyed early on
W
very entertaining when you ramble and talk nonsense lolo
Who the hell is Sally😊😂
Spartans didn't have to kill slaves as a rite of passage... they relied on them to keep every day life flowing. the rite of passage was a year or so in the wild fending for themselves when they reached adolescents. they were expected to live off of the land and avoid others. this tested there resilience, stealth and ability to survive in solitude.
Helots were not classed as slaves, more like Medieval serfs.
It depends on who you talk to, some sources said they were worse than slaves and others said they were their own category slightly about a slave but less free than a serf at the time. They were NOT like medieval serfs because they were owned by the state and the state is recorded regularly abusing them to discourage rebellion.
Serfdom is also considered a form of slavery today, it doesn't really make it much better. The Spartan system was especially vile and an example of how to perfectly squander every great opportunity you could have.
@@hyperion3145 Modern historiography does not consider most serfdom to be like slavery. It only looks like slavery in Early Modern Russia. For the most part serfs had many more rights than slaves do and more ability to get out of it.
Most historians I have seen also call Spartan helots slaves. But Athens also had slaves.
Does anyone else feel like arrow tower blocking with siege towers should be something that should be forbidden in the rules? It just feels so cheesy.
No?
hi
Pozzz second!
So many bots brah
half of you people need to go and watch some documentary's... stop acting like you know and actually find out.
To be fair, Athens also had slaves and the voting system only applied to male citizens so they were not much of a democracy really by our standard. I don't think any of the Greek city states were particularly moral but few places if any were this far back in history .
If only the male population could only vote, am i right fellas?
@@PixelatedApollo1 Haha, I suppose the Athenians still deserve credit for inventing the notion of democracy in the West. Sparta has some cool aspects to it but I think they were too wrapped up in their old ways. I agree with you about the walls too. That seems like common sense :D
Interestingly enough the Romans enfranchised more of their people by percentage than Athens did during the Republic. The Romans even criticized Athens for this. But wealth mattered even more in the Roman republic and the Roman voting system was totally broken once they conquered more territory. Plus they had slaves themselves.
What a crazy theory, the smarter gender making all the decisions 😂 (Not saying women can’t be smart, just talking about the average person from both genders) for every dumb man I’ve met, I’ve met 3 dumb women, and that’s crazy because I know a lot more men than women 😂
There is always someone who thinks is smart and that applies modern standards, literally more than 2k years later.
Were you born at the time you wouldnt even understand that concept.
I didn't know people still played this..lol
Athenians need a solid units with swords, spears, archers
With their nice blue/white colours,
Shields with athens emblem
I love the ,,king guard spearmen,, for sparta just not correct helmets
