A popular fan theory is that he was planning on waiting a hundred years or so for Mark and his mom to die THEN start conquering the planet. He was trying to convince himself this was the right choice as much as he was attempting to convince mark

Spoiler for the comics, but they've deviated enough in the show that it might not actually ever come up. I'm pretty sure there are less than 100 pure blood Viltrumites left. They're not invincible (lol) and sometimes do lose. We saw angry kraken basically defeat him once, and Nolan isnt weak by Viltrumite standards, just not the strongest. It's the reason they're going for the long game and planting one on planets to covertly take it over or leave it more open to willingly joining the empire. If they had the numbers to spare, they wouldn't be wasting so much time.
That moment when you realize that Viltrumites are NOT like Kryptonians. They are Saiyans. I love Omni-Man as a character. The man is so torn between two worlds. He loved his son so much he left his only purpose. And I mean to be fair, child abuse may not exist on Viltrum, just conditioning.
I would side with Nolan here and try to explain his situation as I understand it. Nolan was probably a few thousand years old before he came to earth, and his view of humans was as beings that he would one day conquer, and he needed to prepare the earth for conquering so that there would be as little resistance as possible. When he had the first important conversation with Debbie he said that he didn't expect to have a family, and later they had a son, andit seems that starting a family was not part of the job but a personal pleasure that he chooses to be attached to or not. Nolan definitely got attached to the family he made on earth more than he expected, to the point that it seemed like he forgot about his mission or he put it somewhere deep in his mind, but that all changed when Mark got his powers which probably brought back Nolan's mission in his head, and made him fear for his family and especially for his son, since we learned in the last episode that the Viltrumites kill all the weak of their kind, and if Mark had not gotten his powers, Nolan would be able to focus on protecting the two of them when the invasion comes, that whatever his race does on the planet he can negotiate to protect his family, but since his son has gotten his powers, now Nolan has to train his son to become strong enough to pass his race's evaluation. Nolan suddenly killed the guardians in the first episode in order to weaken the earth's protection, because when you have fewer options for defense, then you resist less when the invaders arrive, and another reason for him was to personally train Mark, so that Mark would not get attached to other heroes, but to be only traind by his father because that way he trains better, and makes less connections with other people so that he is connected to fewer people on earth. Nolan definitely loves his family, but in the last episode he tried to return himself to that conqueror mentality he had when he first came to earth, he belittles everything he loved to his son's face, but not only to his son, but to himself, that's why he says when he began to give up on his son, and his persuasion Nolan said "What's another 17 years? I can always start again, make another kid!", Nolan told himself that, so that he would not hold back and end his son's life, but in the end he couldn't because no matter how little time he spent on earth he couldn't kill his son, and he called his wife a pet because he wanted to erase that connection with her from himself, and view her existence as literally as possible, because he was trying to return to the person he was when he came to earth for the first time. And of course Nolan's actions can't be forgiven because he killed too many people to be forgiven, but I just wanted to explain his behavior and what his psyche was probably going through during those periods in the story, as far as they showed in the show and what I concluded from his actions.
Shows and Movies like to touch on the emotional aspect of loss but never the reality of it. I think this show does a great job of bringing those elements into the forefront. Super hero stuff is very idealistic IMO and tries its best to cushion any bad feelings you might have which I dont appreciate nearly as much as what they did here. The subway scene is intense but its to show how small human life is in the context of these crazy superpowered fights and how the whims of a super powered person is extremely dangerous in the wrong context
4:04 yeah the power to take a massive ass kicking hahahahah. In this moment of the story Mark does not have what it take to stand, not to say against his father, let just say against anyone with a little bit of power.
As soon as he punched him 20 miles into Chicago I knew Mark wasn’t winning. Omni was way too powerful. And I’m glad he didn’t get a sudden power up. It subverts expectations. It also shows what happens when stuff like this happens. People die. And Omni man views people on earth as meaningless. And looking back if you listen to what Omni man tells mark throughout the show he’s been planting the seeds to his true goal. This show was so well written.
That’s what I love about this show. They touch on every realistic aspect of superhero work, both the pretty side and most importantly, ugly side. Even the fight scenes are more realistic, the damage build-up that tolls on the body with each hit feels real
I’m glad you guys enjoyed it. Very awesome animated series. Re-watching it with you guys made me realize something that was very subtle in the writing. I think Omni man made Mark stronger by beating him up. Mark only got his very first super powers after getting beat up by the bully. His body reacted grew stronger. Every time he loses a fight it comes back stronger, the invasion, then battle beast, and now Omni man. I think that’s how he gets stronger and stronger. Never read the comic, so I don’t know.
The thing about the pet line is to Omniman a human would sorta be similar to a dog or a cat. You love your pet deeply but know that you will outlive them. So he does love Debbie a lot, but acknowledges she’s going to die long before him. He just said it in a really shitty way.
just gotta love how even in the final episode of the season Omni Man still finds time to train his son, that is some quality character consistancy right there
When I rewatched this episode it hit me that this is Nolan convincing HIMSELF of his mission. The VA by everyone was at an elite level, especially Steven Yeun and JK Simmons
The thing that sucks about this all too, Mark hasn’t even graduated from high school. He’s 17. Years. Old. He could only stand and watch as his dad killed hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent people right in front of him, with his own face. His dad then proceeded to beat him within a hair of death, and he still loved his dad after it all to say that he would still have him after 500 years. Also, Oak, fun fact; Omni-Man’s speech at the end has been memed to death where that “Think, Mark!” made me want to watch the show that much more.
the more damage his race takes the more they can tank later in life. so his dad just gave him the best kind of resistance training without wanting to, kinda happened to be exactly the kind of beatdown he would need to take to take on greater foes lol +1 to the best Dad
2:36 a pet?! Liked your reactions to that line haha, 15:30 with Quinn & Dave shaking their heads at that scene hehe & what a brutal scene between Mark & his dad! Even though it's animated, the gore in show is still as shocking as seeing it in live action like 'The Boys" 😮
this was a fun show reaction!~ thank you guys!~ cant wait for season 2! big excited for it, not a comic person myself so big hype for seeing it live with yall!
thank alan moore's groundbreaking 80s series "miracleman" for pioneering real carnage in modern mainstream comics. til that time super-battles were conveniently waged in "abandoned warehouse districts" with no casualties. after the industry walked away from its 30yo comics code, moore was able to show us what would happen if a super-psychopath picked london as his arena for his big showdown with the hero. the climax of "man of steel" was basically a live-action version of miracleman #15.
The Chicago scene...The Subway Scene... Loved it all... Marvel, DC or Sony will never be able to show. Maybe '"THE BOYS" This is what happens when superheroes go off the chains... Loved how RAW it was
That last montage shows that s01 is basically setup and origin stories for some of the villains. If they adapt the full run of the comics we're in for a hell of a ride.
Mark grew his teeth back after a few days. Viltrumites regenerate. It is not like Wolverines quick regeneration, but it does get them back on their feet eventually... and stronger than before each time.
When he says pet I think he means more of like you love them and care for them but they simply aren’t gonna last forever. And someone who has lived as long as he did it makes sense. Image being 500 years old remembering your dog when you were a kid or young adult. If you were like me you loved them with all your heart but they aren’t gonna live as long as us.
Nolan wasn’t trying to convince Mark, he was trying to convince himself. If Mark hadn’t gotten any powers, Nolan would’ve lived his life happily with his family
I'm so glad y'all watched this show and awesome reaction! Man what a final episode. It really hit you in feels with the final dialogue between Mark and Nolan.
I have been waiting for you guys to watch this episode for so long. When I watched this for the first time I was quiet for the whole episode. The scene that shocked me the most was the train scene. Best superhero series ever!!!
The subway scene was brutal! Mark would feel guilty both because Omni man made it his fault for fighting him, but also his body was literally going through those people.
"I DO love your mother, but... she's more like a- a pet to me." I've never heard a more vicious burn in any media - and it was unintentional. Every time I see someone react to this for the first time is magnificient.
It reminds me of the scene in Superman 2, where Ursa turns to Zod and voices her surprise that Kel-El is saving the people. Then says to Zod that he must care for them like pets. Then later on grabs Lois saying she has his favorite pet.
It's not even a burn, Omni-Man is just poor at choosing analogies. He was talking about how humans live longer than their pets, at that they resign themselves that they'll eventually outlive them.
Mason Quinn, I couldn’t help but notice that you’re obsessed with the idea of characters needing to gain additional powers to be strong. I promise you, Mark just needs to train the powers he already has.
The green light for both season 2 and 3 of Invincible actually came very fast (April 2021). It's just production that is pretty slow. Hopefully due to them going for high quality.
@@Arkantos117 It’s all about experience. The opponents he’ll have a hard time with have a surplus of it. The only thing that will keep him alive is his invincible willpower to keep fighting.
One thing I love about this show and the comics is that Mark will constantly be kicked around. He may be Invincible but he’s not invulnerable.
the more damage his race takes the more they can tank later in life. so his dad just gave him the best kind of resistance training without wanting to, kinda happened to be exactly the kind of beatdown he would need to take to take on greater foes lol +1 to the best Dad
I have been waiting all week for this episode to see your reactions. Incredible season 1.
"Mark's gonna get a power he doesn't realise."
That would be the power of love
Yesssssss ive been waitin for this one 😈
9:26 Wow, that's spot on and giving me very sad flashbacks
15:28 That quick eye roll 😂
You guys have no idea what's coming I can't wait to watch the reactions!
Loved this finale. Never forget that in this Ubermensch fantasy? You and I are the ones made of jello that splatter when struck by the power fantasy.
Badd medicine: I’ve never seen this much violence
Me: laughs in Attack on titan 😂
2:36 a pet?! Liked your reactions to that line haha, 15:30 with Quinn & Dave shaking their heads at that scene hehe & what a brutal scene between Mark & his dad! Even though it's animated, the gore in show is still as shocking as seeing it in live action like 'The Boys" 😮
I get teary eyed everytime I see this episode, hits a lot of nerves. Best show ever man , for me anyways.
Grabbed my breakfast to watch this with y'all... I do not recommend eating a meal while watching invincible 🤣
The Crew: I'm excited for this episode
The episode: Invincible getting his ass kicked 😂😂
Brutal is definitely a word to describe him. Maybe an understatement. Just a little bit.
HELL YEAH I've been waiting for this! Love your reactions guys!
13:49 literally the best part of this video when you all laugh in unison
over the way he's incapable of keeping a secret 😂
Been waiting for this one! Let's goooo
can't wait for season two!!
I watched this season and loved it so much that I went and bought the entire comic series. It's fantastic and I can't wait for more
this was a fun show reaction!~ thank you guys!~ cant wait for season 2! big excited for it, not a comic person myself so big hype for seeing it live with yall!
thank alan moore's groundbreaking 80s series "miracleman" for pioneering real carnage in modern mainstream comics. til that time super-battles were conveniently waged in "abandoned warehouse districts" with no casualties. after the industry walked away from its 30yo comics code, moore was able to show us what would happen if a super-psychopath picked london as his arena for his big showdown with the hero. the climax of "man of steel" was basically a live-action version of miracleman #15.
The Chicago scene...The Subway Scene... Loved it all... Marvel, DC or Sony will never be able to show. Maybe '"THE BOYS"
This is what happens when superheroes go off the chains... Loved how RAW it was
That last montage shows that s01 is basically setup and origin stories for some of the villains.
If they adapt the full run of the comics we're in for a hell of a ride.
We may be looking at like 7 or 8 seasons
I remember I had to pause in the middle of this episode cuz I was like.....WTF!! 😳😂😂
So basically he thought his dad was Superman when it was actually General Zod playing the long game
Nolan wasn’t trying to convince Mark, he was trying to convince himself. If Mark hadn’t gotten any powers, Nolan would’ve lived his life happily with his family
Believe it or not, the brutality of that fight is a litmus test for what's to come (if they stick close to the story) 😳
Also, keep in mind that Omni Man is the nicest Viltrumite. Yeah.......
The space beam gave Omniman a nosebleed. I say increase the power of that thing? Make it virtually indestructible and they might have a chance
FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for this.
God I can't wait for Season 2, this series and the comics are such an amazing violent universe.
Fantastic series and final. It was hell of a journey on first season, thank you
Episode 1: Omni-Man trains Mark.
Episode 8: Omni-man TRAINS Mark.
Been waiting for this one!
This one's gonna be crazy, I still remember the episode ☠️
"Fun" fact: If you slow down the subway scene, you can see that they animated Invincible's fingers slicing through people. It's wild.
Also, you're going to love Conquest!
3:50 I don't know why this made me laugh so much 😂"What a mess!"
J.K.Simmons killed this role like Omni-Man killed all these civilians
The green light for both season 2 and 3 of Invincible actually came very fast (April 2021). It's just production that is pretty slow. Hopefully due to them going for high quality.
Dude I related so much to Oaks “What the fffuck” during the train scene
I don't comment often, but I've enjoyed your reaction to this series. This show was wild! Can't wait for season 2.
This is seriously the best comic book ever written, IMO. Just you wait.
Invincible learning human martial arts and using them to fight stronger opponents would be a good plotline.
Martial arts won’t do him much good against the few enemies that actually pose a threat to him, but I’m sure he’ll pick up a few things on the field
@@diegopansini3152 I don't see why they wouldn't.
@@Arkantos117 It’s all about experience. The opponents he’ll have a hard time with have a surplus of it. The only thing that will keep him alive is his invincible willpower to keep fighting. Besides, considering that the fight scenes are more realistic, not heavy on choreography, the martial arts would only buy him a few seconds at most. He would just end up resorting to his Viltrumite rage
@@Arkantos117spoiler about how things work.
It won’t help. It is all about strenght. How would martial art help you against an elephant? He will just have to work out. They get stronger as they push to their limits as we humans do
@@Kbax3614 Invincible is strong enough himself to win if he just had any skill. It's nothing like fighting an elephant, the people he's up against have the same body structure as us and are therefore susceptible to redirection and wrestling techniques or w/e.
Really enjoy all your guys reactions. I thought this was an amazing series, and a good example of what comic book animation can be. All of you are great at what you do with good discussions after the reaction. May I recommend watching the animated dark knight returns. It’s in two parts but think you’d enjoy it much like this. Thanks for all you guys do!
That much dmg was done by mark being hit and he was conscious enough to stop himself, now imagine if that hit ko'd him how far and how much more damage would've been done.
07:08 i wasn't prepared before and i still wasn't this time
By far funniest intro so far!
There's gotta be SOME good viltramites! A few people who don't want to conquer the universe but are being forced to.
You can't write what happened here without a god complex. Shit was heartbreaking yet fascinating
The best of the best of the best, SIR!
For some reason that makes me think of a man in his US Army Class A taking a test for a chance to wear a black suit.
Remember what I said in Episode 1 about y'all having no idea what y'all were in for? This is what I meant. This episode REDEFINED the word brutal.
never tire of people reacting to this ep
