    Part 2:
    • A message to fellow Bu...
This video is in response to people who mistake Hatsumi Soke's TEACHING method as THE training method of the Bujinkan. In the video I say things like "how they train in Japan" What I should have said is "how Hatsumi Sensei teaches in Japan"
I respect that many individual students in Japan, Japanese or not may in fact train according to the methods I prescribe in the video, I personally know a few Bujinkan students that do.
Such clarification is needed because some Bujinkan people are very sensitive... And I don't want to give the wrong impression...
Soke's method of teaching, the one you see at honbu is a great method to milk out all of the concepts contained in the teaching examples, but it is not the way to gain the useable skill to apply what you have learned, you need more and Soke himself when he was younger employed these methods.
The problem is the people who only train the way soke is teaching. This video does not apply to anyone else...

Exactly! Thank you. I've trained in a Bujinkan dojo for over ten years, however my Sensei always took the attitude that "Japan training " had the intention of teaching new and precise concepts, however within your dojo it is important to teach this kind of training as well. Both are important to learning, the slow to learn specific angles, techniques, balance points, the fast to realize how an actual fight feels as well as seeing techniques as they occur instead of seeking them (mushin). Its created a good base for me ( I'm no cage fighter, but fare well when I've spent time sparring with other arts) however we've always been a little disappointed that some of the Buj has lost realism in training.

Well put. Totally with you on this. When have you EVER seen someone at hombu properly try and punch Soke with real intention. Hence he only picks a chosen few to uke for him.

I agree with all of this. I've been a martial artist for about 25 years, the last 7 of it Bujinkan. I know that to train classically, assuming the wearing of armor, it's not applicable to today's fighting. I get inspiration from the densho and pick apart the katas. I create henka that mirror modern techniques and explore those with my training partners outside of class. We're only limited by our imagination or willingness to explore the techniques with realism.

Firstly, learn english, secondly, not every art had a scroll in Japan and scroll is not proof of everything. There were mentions of Daisuke Nishina (Togakure) in a few historical records, just like there is a scroll about Toda ryu kenjutsu, which probably predated the assuming date when Toda family got in contact with Togakure, Koto and Gyoko ryu. Until then, they probably taught just Shinden fudo ryu, their native style. Koto ryu and Gyoko ryu principals have many similarities with some Chinese martial art principals, which indicates that they actually did came from Chinese martial arts, just as Soke says. And yes, he made up Budo Taijutsu which is mix of older styles mentioned up.

Dude literally comments on every bujinkan video saying the exact same thing. Probably knows as much about martial arts as he does about English..

When you talk abut Japan training, are you referring to the honbu training?

in the gyoko ryu alone teaches you bobi no kamae and ichimonji no kamae to effectively defend yourself against those kinds of attacks

If you really pay attention to what soke teaches, he teaches to force them to make the move you want. If you have your distancing right they have to step to punch you and even if it's fast you close the distance and work around their balance!!!! Pay closer attention! (I have used the art in real situations btw)
