I totally agree Mate. In the 70s and 80s fighters were of a different breed. Especially Mexican fighters. Those fighters didn’t have rehydration clauses, duck dangerous rivals, have the luxury of picking and choosing from the bottom of the barrel opponents they knew they could beat, and most importantly relinquish their hard earned title belt just to avoid a legitimate opponent who could possibly beat them. Canelo Alvarez is THE ONLY Mexican fighter in the history of the sport to voluntarily give up his title belt rather than face his mandatory which was a prime Gennady Golovkin. He and Monzon are two guys who, in the states, come to mind as fighters who aren't recognized, outside boxing circles that is, commensurate with their talent. Both unfortunately died too young in car wrecks, one even younger than the other. Keep in mind... the last full year Sanchez ever saw was his TWENTY-THIRDI!!!! Most guys are just starting a career at this point, and some haven't even touched boxing gloves at that age.
Two warriors. Sanchez had the edge in speed and movement, which gave him the win, but Lopez gave his all. I saw both fights when they happened and was a Lopez fan, but Salvador would not be denied. RIP to an all time great.
Roy Jones has a clip on YT where he is asked who the greatest boxer of all time is, in his opinion. He said something to the effect of: “The most TALENTED fighter I ever saw is a guy by the name of Salvador Sanchez.” Solid endorsement right there.

@@omegapoint0 forgot about the ( Old Master)! Thank u for remembering Mr. Gans. Mr. Gans and Mr. Wilde both amazed me in defeating different weight classes.
I'll also add that sometimes when a guy dies early... the reality of what was to be can often pale in comparison to the mystery. In Sanchez's case though, we probably never saw the best of him. He was 23.
Sal Sanchez was an absolutely great fighter, probably the best ive ever seen. From any country and weight class. I feel that his humility, work ethic, and respect for the opponent and for the sport. Is what made him legendary.
Sanchez combination of speed, reflex, balance and power were beyond sensational. What a boxing machine he was. For sure in a 'best ever' discussion. Danny Lopez though...My word. What a tough hombre. He clearly misses the mark when it comes to being mentioned in the same breath as other Mexican legends who come from the storied tradition of those proud and fearless warriors.
@C.STRIKER-yo7zg do you know how many fighters in history relinquish belts? Canelo ended up fighting GGG less than a year later anyways so what's really your point?
I never saw anything like that. Probably one of the best fights I ever saw in my life ! I became a HUGE fan of Sanchez after this one...
Im 77...Salvator's passing is still tender. rip❤
“ THE INVINCIBLE EAGLE”, 🦅, that nickname was accurate!❤. Long live the champ Sal Sanchez, which the Puertorricans named “ 3 lungs “…
Young Legend. may he rest in peace 🙏🏼
Salvador did to Wilfredo Gomez what nobody else could do.And he looked calm and collected while doing it.
This win was so impressive for him because the quality of boxer Danny Lopez was
To call him great is a gross understatement. He was an exquisite fighter.
He said something to the effect of: “The most TALENTED fighter I ever saw is a guy by the name of Salvador Sanchez.”
Solid endorsement right there.
The other all-time great was Joe Calzaghe,
He should be more famous.
His clips are as good: th-cam.com/video/Z93vGUvhY_4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tFEvBf-Xglits-lm
Tyson said the same
Tyson, Sugar Rey Leonard, Jones Jr, floyd mayweather Sr, james toney, and more agreed Salvador Sanchez was a beast
@@guerrero_implacable beast ≠ best
@jjstratford,Jack Dempsey was the baddest fighter ever! No one comes close to him!
In the day one of the local cable stations from NYC carried fights from the stories Olympic Auditorium in LA and that's where I first saw Little Red, among other fighters like Art Hafey. Great days of boxing during the "war weeks."
That damn right hand. Holy Christmas that thing should’ve been illegal.
I remember sanchez v an unknown azumah nelson ...great fight
You aren't kidding!
Azumah Nelson fue un grande
Great fight 👏 👏 Shanchez was unbelievable and thanks to video, the eagle will always fly
Lopez has an insane chin and heart. All that punishment from Sanchez and still kept coming.
I saw this fight live and couldn't believe Lopez was so easily beaten.
"Quick as a cat"! I like it 😂👍🥊🥊
The greatest fighter of ALL TIME ….
Great champions need great opponents.
Sanchez is top three of all time. You pick the other two, any era, any class.😊😊😊
1) MR. SUGAR Ray Robinson 2) Mr. Jimmy Wilde 3) Mr. Salvador Sancez
1. Joe Gans (The Old Master). Master boxer and superb defense. 1-punch KO power in either hand.
What else is there?
2. Sugar Ray Robinson.
3. Salvador Sanchez.
@@omegapoint0 forgot about the ( Old Master)! Thank u for remembering Mr. Gans. Mr. Gans and Mr. Wilde both amazed me in defeating different weight classes.
Salvador above everyone
Sal Sánchez, the best boxer of all time 🥊🥊🥊
I'll also add that sometimes when a guy dies early... the reality of what was to be can often pale in comparison to the mystery. In Sanchez's case though, we probably never saw the best of him. He was 23.
Pound4Pound Inch4Inch #1 of all Times.
Unquestioned.
Definitivamente Salvador Sanchez el mejor boxeador Mexicano de todos los tiempos y quizás el mejor del mundo
Very few (especially these days ;) could take the number of clean heavy shots Sanchez dished out those first five rounds and still stand up. I see he's still going strong at 72!
I wish Sanchez would’ve never died in a car accident so that we can see the rematch between him and Wilfredo Gomez. But Sanchez was a beast.
One of the best fights I've seen!
Danny Lopez had a steel mandible - Others would fall down with the punches from Sal - SS were gone too soon - Maybe it was his destiny - But he left a legacy in boxing - R.I.P. Sal Sanchez
