Zalensky didn’t mean he wanted physical products from china. He’s saying he wants china to stop propping up Russia.

But china needs to be able to trade on a relatively even field and RU is on the same level of currency value relative to the western countries which have much stronger economies and better trade options. China even stopped trading with the HK dollar because it was tied to the US dollar.
China's economy isn't doing very well. They've overspent on infrastructure and even built whole cities and no one is using the high-speed trains to these outlying cities because there's nothing in the cities they've built...they're literally huge ghost towns.
As was pointed out in today's video update, China wants to trade with ALL of the western world without restrictions or competition. Trading with RU on the short term (maybe long term, we'll see) helps China move in that direction...not so much for RU. RU will only get minimal value but it has no other option atm. China has to be careful not to rock the boat too much or risk pushing the west to close off trade.
It's a game of chicken. Who's gonna twitch first.

That is one of the most likely reasons. Next to the importance of the grain trade. It could also be a signal to the west that if they don’t give enough support, the could turn to the Chinese.
It would be concerning to the west if Ukraine gets economically and politically tied to the Chinese.
Let’s hope Zelenski is just playing a bluff to the west.

@@bluflaam777LSA China is, if we strangle their economy they will stop propping up Russia with weapons and we're doing just that. You can be our friend or the friend of our enemy but you cannot be both.
China and Russia, if they keep this up, will both have a collapsing economy and the thing is... That's pretty great for the EU and the US so we will let them.

I think Zelensky is telling China that Ukraine is open to having a friendly relationship, (and future trading relationship) with China if China will stop supporting Russia in the war. Zelensky is also letting everyone else know it is in their best interest to continue supporting Ukraine in the war if they don’t want to see Ukraine cozy up to China.
For its part, China sees a real possibility that Russia can lose this war. If Russia loses, they won’t be able to keep any promises they have made to China thus far. In short, everyone is shopping around for,the best deal right now.

After the six-month delay in ammo etc. I don't blame Zelensky for pointing out how bad it could get for the USA and EU if they do that again. China would stab Russian in the back for this geopolitical victory. President Zelensky will do anything to ensure survival of his country. Political posturing it may be, or maybe not.

The statement by Zelensky regarding China doesn't need to lead to China providing support. It needs to apply pressure to China to stop supporting Russia. China, whatever one might think, has an extremely image-oriented political approach. If it starts looking really bad that China supports Russia, they might finally drop them.

Fight the US? Fight NATO? Fight the entire West? Without actually fighting them?!?! China will jump on that in a heartbeat, image be damned. Have you not kept up with their Coast Guard and Air Force interactions with literally every other country that comes through there? They don't care what the free world thinks of them and they can control, or their fellow dictators can control, what every single person the government gives a hoot about sees, knows, or thinks about....i.e. they (the dictators) control any and ALL information circulated within their borders....some more harshly than others.

As far as UKR/China collaboration, I personally consider "One Belt, One Road" as equal parts trying to re-establish the ancient 'silk road' trading route to Europe, and a modern version of colonialism (look at how much money African countries borrowed for Chinese-built infrastructure projects). But considering the war and Prez Z's appeal..I can't help but remember that old Arab proverb. "Me and my brother against a cousin - me and my cousin against a stranger." Great update, Andrew. Faster, but not better per se. Here are some others, if you're interested:
Jake Broe - Left leaning, and just got Ukraine over a million dollars in equipment for his birthday.
Professor Gerdes - Right leaning, posts 3-4 short format stories a day about Ukraine
The Russian Dude - A bit cringey sometimes, but this dude literally got disowned by his family and home country because he supports Ukraine.
Reporting from Ukraine - Probably one of the best (if not THE best) Ukraine channel out there. He's so good that Russian troll bots have been consistently trying to get his channels banned from TH-cam.
I will say that The Enforcer tends to get the news out there about as fast as possible, but they have also been involved in a bit of drama in the past, so that lost a small amount of their credibility to me. It can be regained if they don't do it again, though.

I really like your reporting, but I have a request to make. Please lower the volume and high range of the reporting. Sometimes, even with the volume turned down, it is hard to listen to even when I really want to get your information and I have to move elsewhere on TH-cam. That being said, your information is fantastic, is pulled together expertly, often beats other outlets, and the zooming in and out really helps understand the situation. Also, when you are reporting on strikes on Russian territory being filmed by Russians, it would be really interesting to know what the person filming is saying (other than the curse words). Maybe you have a Russian speaking follower who could help.

I can’t believe you really think we have done so much to help Ukraine. While we in the west have done a great deal, we have been careful ( up till now) not to give Ukraine the means to win this war! We have propped them up enough not to capitulate but no more. Further, when you consider that we allowed Russia ( Putin) to take Crimea without much more than a whimper then I can see that Ukraine will not really feel grateful to the west. While we prevaricated again and again their soldiers and citizens were dying and, from my point of view, that will be a blight on the west for generations to come. No wonder the Ukrainians might lean towards China - we have only ourselves and our lack of backbone to blame. A soldier of the Cold War!

Average wage Russia 15k USD, any tax increases are going to hurt. GDP per capita 15k USD. For comparison average wage Poland 23k USD, . GDP per capita 19k USD. Russia has 144 million poor mouths to feed therefore only a tiny portion of GDP can be spent on this war before the population starve. Putin had million put to the side for this war and this is now gone, we are going to now see the true cost to the people of Russia over the next few months.

If one person makes 10 billion and the other 50k residents of his city make about 5000 each. (Mr Burns..) Then the average income for that city per person is 205k per year!
Real-life wages in Russia are more like 300 USD a month. Even in Moscow 3000 a month is already very high and definitely not what the average person makes.
In Poland this '23k average' is also definitely not realistic but much more realistic than the russian number you pull up.
Russians are poor because wealth in Russia isn't for the people. And indeed, war is costly.

Going out on a limb here about china. I think the Ukraine is asking them to be friends would mean that the if china helps the Ukraine, it will give less help to Russia. And if it looks to china that Russia is starting to lose the battle. They might actually turn away from Russia.
And i think that this would be good. Because that would also mean that China would not try to threaten Taiwan (for now). And with Russia out of the way then. China wont have the backbone to be an aggressor.
