on the contrary, we use maobi(brush pen) to write hanzi on wood. these round characters called jiaguwen、jinwen, were carved into bronze and bones or tortoise shells.

People from the land of China and Korea moved to the land of Japan a long time ago, using the Chinese characters as their language. In Japanese language they call it Kanji and don't make distinction for Hanzi, Kanji, and Hanja. In Mandarin Chinese, Japanese Kanji is also called Hanzi. Only English speakers make distinction between Hanzi, Kanji, Hanja.

Kanji is the old Japanese pronunciation of Hanzi. Back during Japanese Asuka/Nara time, China had political & economic hegemony within East Asia. So male Japanese government officials had to learn to read/write Hanzi to communicate for trading trading & diplomat purposes. Back then, Japan were just backwater island(s) fighting amongst themselves with no writing system, just like how England was when the Romans came.

This kind of thing is taught to Chinese children since age 3. Kanji means 漢字which means literally language of the Han - i.e. Chinese. Classic “cultural appropriation”. If China were doing this to Japan there would be an outcry. Please have some self-respect.

Shirakawa isn't a trustworthy source, a lot of his "kanji origin stories" are pure speculation and bear little to no truth. The truth is that unfortunately, most Chinese characters are hard to trace to their original look, let alone to find an origin story for them. Shirakawa's book though, not only makes up meanings for some of them, but also has a lot of blatant mistakes, showing that he barely even knows how the characters looked before and doesn't understand how they really work at all. So please, do not spread this kind of desinformation! Unfortunately, people are very uneducated in this field, so it is easy to believe such blatant lies.

@@helldronez According to Dr. Shirakawa's book, for example, 人, is rather from a dead person (killed maybe). The standing strong people became 立 or 大. Shirakawa isn't a trustworthy source, a lot of his "kanji origin stories" are pure speculation and bear little to no truth.
The truth is that unfortunately, most Chinese characters are hard to trace to their original look, let alone to find an origin story for them.
Shirakawa's book though, not only makes up meanings for some of them, but also has a lot of blatant mistakes, showing that he barely even knows how the characters looked before and doesn't understand how they really work at all.
So please, do not spread this kind of desinformation! Unfortunately, people are very uneducated in this field, so it is easy to believe such blatant lies.
