How to beat Master Mode Daytime Empress of Light using Shimmer, Terraria's New Liquid

A step by step guide to destroying the hardest fight in Terraria with shimmer, Terraria's newest and most broken liquid. This also works for other bosses as long as you can acquire teleporters and sensors. I wouldn't actually recommend playing this way, but it is really cool that this exists at all (for now...)

I still think the better option would have been disabling summon damage during shimmer and let us come up with clever trap placements to do enough damage without summons.

Sadly this is irrelevant now, it has been patched so you do take damage while in shimmer.

Just when Terraria mods caught up to 1.4 they do another huge patch for it with perm buffs and an entirely new special liquid that breaks the game. I love it.
Rod of harmony will be stupidly broken in mods with post ml content
fun fact: it's possible to get the terra blade pre-plantera if you get a terra toilet from a jungle mimic and throw it into a pool of shimmer to get the broken hero's sword, had a blast running the zenith seed with the new melee changes.

Can't you use the night sensor and logic gates to disable the teleporters? You would shimmer through the teleporter and make this contraption reusable.

But as the video mentioned, explosions are cooler!
Probably, I don't mess with logic gates much, but I'll take your word for it. There are definitely a ton of different ways to handle the part where you need to get out of the softlock, and plenty of ways to automate it, but this is just the simplest solution I came up with.

But at the same time daytime EoL became much harder after update, so it could be worse)
If anything, you should feel proud. You completed a hard challenge without having to cheat.

-Shimmer no longer protects against 1-hit ko attacks
theyre gona make you not invincible in shimmer anymore bc u can cheese the game so easily after that
still usuable for like every other boss though
The better fix would be not letting teleporters work while shimmering.

My husband and I are racing through the game so we can do this. We love the game, but there are some bosses we suck at and we really want that weapon. 😭

@@MeepMurp72 we have beaten the game many times. We just really struggle with her. Part of it is, the timing of our games is off. So one of us will be lagging and get killed and the other will get killed shortly after. Because the minecart strat gets thrown off.

Also, you can beat the Dungeon Guardian by using that too. But the rewards are simply pet so it wasn't needed at all to do that though.

Surely for dungeon guardian the amount of hits is more important than anything else so you would want a staff with more minions such as the optic staff right?

You can also just use a drone to activate an escape teleporter since you can control a drone while shimmering & they can trigger teal pressure plates (gotta throw out the drone before entering the shimmer tho)

That transition from the beginning to the end of the fight was clean
I did a very similar thing right after I saw what shimmer can do, but with conveyor belts bringing the drops to me and then leaving world
well well. I saw this coming a mile away. The "simplest" way to make it reusable would be a daylight sensor. Stack a faulty lamp on a regular lamp on any logic gate. The player sensor is hooked to the faulty lamp, the daylight sensor to the regular lamp, and the gate hooked to the teleporters. When night comes, you'll just fall out. When day comes the system resets itself properly. An alternative that could be timed better is a honey drop timer like you had, but it would require a honey sensor and pumps to reset itself.

I’m absolutely delighted by this
When WoS said "It's shimmering time" and shimmered across the arena
I felt that
(Still can't believe the effect actually is called shimmering...)
You can just use conveyor belts to make the loot get to the shimmer invincibility machine, you will be softlocked, but you will 100% pick up all the loot so you can just quit after that. I used this method on moon lord, didn't see anyone on youtube do this, you can literally skip placing explosives and a lot of wiring by that, it's much easier.

Considered that the portal tunnel is Soo small you might be able to to use belts to always bring the treasure bag to you.
Making the save and exit method very easy to use right?
A simple way to make this post Moonlord is just prevent the shimmer biome blocks from being actuated or destroyed
And pumping shimmer is post moonlord

they removed dodging, so now we have even better dodging.

I learned something new today, thanks for this video, now I know how to use a water pump
Instead of the pressure plate and dart trap, I just connect the the sensor to a 1/2 second timer and place the sensor one block higher to give it enough time to activate, then make sure the timer is OFF before starting. I also connect both a day sensor and a night one to the timer, so it turns on when the day/night ends, making it so it's turned off by the player sensor, allowing me to exit the shimmer.
EDIT: Aaaand they already fixed it. Goddammit.

for what ever reason some pets can trigger the teal pressure pad and pet items can still be used while shimmer state is active
If Terraria were to ever do another content update, they really need to get people like you and MappyGaming to test and find out ridiculously broken things in new stuff.

I know this video is a couple days old, but it's your most recent one. I thought of a new Terraria run since they changed how the invisible paint works. I think it's called echo coating now, but if it's possible to turn it on and off with wiring and the monolith, you could coat the entire world, and set a timer, so you can only see the world for a little bit at a time, like once every ten seconds or something, or even randomize it so you never know when you'll be able to see the world again
I am 100% going to consume this delicious cheese, especially with the Hallowed armor nerf.

@@anri688 from what I've read about the update, the dodge effects from the master ninja gear and hallowed armor sets will no longer proc during the daytime Empress fight. Unless another cheese strat is found and not patched, players from now on may literally have to git gud.

in a universe where this still works, its probably a good idea to build a large collection area beneath so you dont lose the shimmer

On another note why not use conveyers to push the bag towards the player so they can log out and still have the set up?

Wouldn't the Chromatic Cloak allow you to stop shimmering whenever you want instead of having to wait for the contraption to explode?
It prevents shimmering, but not if you're already shimmering, so no unfortunately.
@@WandofSparking If you equip it before and hold down or have something else do it for you like that option (I use windows, idk about others) that sets the mouse buttons on toggle and bind the down action to it, you can leave anytime unless for some reason telepoting disables it.
It stops you from shimmering entirely, once you start Shimmering you cant change your gear

I prefer the method of honey and shimmer using a bow and stacking a ton of arrows then using an invulnerability gen
You should make a playthrough in which you start with rod of harmony, but you cant use wings or any other movement related accesory
The mass arrow bounce should still work as it's an instant kill, so there's still that.
They buffed EoL too much, so it became more grindy instead of challenge
Ikr EoL is literally such a grind. The spawners are so annoying to farm and now dodge accessories and hallowed armor don't work. They weren't even op because you lost damage if you used them anyways. It's all in vain anyways because you can make a minecart arena and cheese it super easily. Obviously you can just learn the attack patters but a lot of classes (especially summoner) take so long to kill her because they have low dps outside of mid/close range which is not an option because EoL can turn into the sun randomly and instantly reduce you to ashes.
@@HIIMROSS777 the best way ive found to get terraprisma, is to just do it post moonlord lol, get the zenith and dps the hell out of her.

You're called wand of sparking, so you probably know about it already, but did you know that your namesake is a hardmode weapon on the don't dig up seed? (Dropped by mimics, replacing the magic dagger)
Time to try this on Moonlord... so I can get shimmer in my main world... TO DEFEAT MOONLORD!
You could do 10x20 pool of shimmer below a 10x20 honey pool. Stand right at the bottom of the honey pool and shoot the shimmer using tsunami with high damage arrows (not DoT). Shoot until your arrows start to despawn and spawn the empress, and viola, daylight empress killed in under 5s.
Can you pilot the Kwad Drone while shimmering? It’s a projectile, so might trigger pressure plates and get you out of the shimmer.

The statue from the empress of light on Master Mode looks almost exactly like the statue from Queen Bee so I guess we can kill Queen Bee and Pretend we killed the Empress of Light.

You can still use the bouncing of projectiles through shimmer to stack enough damage to rapidly kill her.

You should do a playthrough where you're only allowed to move with Rod of Discord or Rod of Harmony! You'd have to give it to yourself at the beginning like the portal gun challenge but I think it would be pretty fun.

You can't equip the cloak while in shimmer, it completely disables your inventory. Also if you were able to equip it you'd still sink, because the cloak let's you sink if you press down, so since you're already sinking it won't stop you

mappy gaming made a super compact invincibility setup
currently doing a master, hardcore, FTW run (well, runs, 30 so far) and i'm contemplating whether or not to use this setup to cheese all the hardmode bosses
on the one hand: it's a hard challenge and i don't wanna fail, especially on a run i make it that far
on the other hand: it ruins the challenge and is really lame
you should cheese the boss, because imagine the pain of losing the world due to a mess up

@randomguy9777 yeah, part of it is the challenge, but another part of why it's hard and not medium is because while hard is a one-chance challenge, medium is a try-not-to-give-up challenge, sure you can get your stuff back in mediumcore, but good luck doing it in hardmode without some serious pre-planning or backup gear

Idea for playthrough:
Terraria but every 3 days all the bosses are summoned(However, some of the bosses may be unable to be summoned due to biome limitations like the Wall of Flesh) If you somehow manage to defeat one boss the boss will not show up again when the bosses spawn on the third day. You cannot progress through the game without killing a boss from the boss infestation (for the wall of flesh it needs to be summoned along with the rest bosses that are not biome exclusive). I feel like it would be possible but there may be some slight modifications in the end.
if u make it a multiplayer world someone can join after u killed it and u can use a wormhole potion to get to them
Could you use the chromatic cloak to unsoftlock yourself? The wiki says it grants immunity to the phasing, but that holding down negates it, so could you just hold down the whole fight and then let go when the fight ends? I haven't used it yet so I'm not completely sure how it works
Once you press down once, you can’t stop shimmering until you’ve gone into air, sadly.

Myth suggestion: Normally the 1k beach balls, doesn't let any projectiles exist, but minions count as projectiles. Using 990 beach balls, then summoning 10 minions, and then spawning a boss, can you let your summons do the killing for you instead of only having melee?
Could you not use the rod of discord to get out of the shimmer? I'm just curious is all
You can't use items while shimmering, so no unfortunately.

The only issue - you can only get a shimmer bucket with luminite… or you have to mess with the underground pool of shimmer

Honestly, I think I'll try to get some shimmer for the daytime-Empress. I absolutely hate that that boss can one-shot you. It's already crazy powerful during the night, so I have to be careful about accidentally killing some stupid bug. Okay, Nevermind. They took it away. You'd really think that they'd be aware of having a boss that you're supposed to avoid all the time when they give us something that gives us immunity.
It's crazy how the terraria community manages to always find the weirdest strats or tricks to beat a boss. And it's always terraria.

Relogic: Pumps ignore shimmer. Added a new shimmer pump sold by Steampunker npc, requires to defeat empress of light to be sold and "Secret of the liquids" dropped by Duke fishtron to be placed, can only be activated using a luminite lever. Also buffed back all of those bosses lmao.
