There's nothing I hate more than getting hooked by a Roadhog the same time you throw your flashbang. What this does is it stuns him, REMOVES HIS HOOK, but still pulls you towards him. Meaning by the time you're infront of him, the stun has already finished and he can just one shot you. HOW DOES THIS MAKE SENSE?!
Ameer as an Ana player I swear I have shot my sleep dart a full second before hogs hook but the hook somehow cancels the projectile. I can watch it back on replay and the kill cam and see the dart in the air but when I get hooked it disappears. Basically Hook>Everything.

I think the Overwatch team needs to take a step back from giving us more things like heroes, maps, and skins, and focus more on fixing things like this, Roadhog's Hook™, and Widowmaker's grappling hook. Of course, they're not going to do that, because they're probably worried that if they did they'd end up in the same place TF2 is in.

I saw this happen a few times already, and I rarely play McCree... I threw one point-blank at someone's feet and even saw it GO OFF at their feet, and they didn't get stunned. I was gobsmacked about it at the time, because the faulty stun resulted in them simply turning and blowing my head off. I chalked it up to lag. Another scenario, not talked about in this video, happened to me however. I was playing a payload round. There was an enemy McCree and enemy Rein on the payload, looking forward. I walked up behind them and jumped on the payload. The enemy McCree ran forward off the payload and while STILL APPEARING TO LOOK FORWARD (read: not seeing me at all), hit me with a stun which resulted in my death. The crazy thing is that it didn't look like the enemy McCree was looking at me, or that he was even using his flashbang, yet he was able to stun me through voodoo. The kill-cam confirmed it too. I'm sure that in his viewpoint though, he saw me, turned around, and hit me with it while jumping off..... but that's not what the game showed me. I still chalk it up to lag a lot. I only play with 35ms, but... it's their latency that affects it, not mine. The corner thing is irritating though.
Every single one of those you threw it before aiming where you wanted it to go. It went where you were aiming each time, you can tell because the flashbang icon turns yellow the instant you use it and you're looking at the ground or the side each time. You can't use it then turn and expect it to go somewhere else like a curve ball. Watch them all again at .25 speed (settings), you will see. The bots were a bit messed up, sure, but your in-game play was user-error.

Myself and many others are making an error BECAUSE the ability's animation implies that it will behave in one way when it actually behaves in another. Because of the slow animation, there appears to be a slight delay in McCree's flashbang (like Ana's sleep dart, only not as long), so we were throwing our flashbangs early to make up for it. Blizzard is no stranger to adding small delays to decrease accuracy (think Torbjorn and Mei's right click). Now I can't speak for others, but I know logically that animations are not necessarily indicative of how an ability behaves. But because of the attention to detail that Blizzard gives Overwatch, and because of how fast it all happens, I was never able to piece together why the flashbang felt "off" until I watched these in slow motion. I'm sure there are many people like yourself who intrinsically felt out the ability's timing and used it without accounting for a false delay, but the success of this video implies that many, many other people were also going off of the same faulty visual clues and suffering because of it. If the animation was any slower, it might be easier to detect and correct, but since it happens so fast, it's easy to keep making the same mistake again and again, even after someone shows you otherwise. Our brains are wired to respond to visual clues, especially in fast-paced, reflex-based scenarios such as first person shooters. And the visual clues from the animation indicate a slight delay. So we throw early. And then miss.
I never knew it was a instant throw. The animation itself looks like the throw has a slight delay, like sleep dart but faster, and I have always been playing like it has that delay. Weird.
Fantasy Logos I agree with you, while I do have times where I miss a flash and have no idea why it's once every blue moon. This guys gotta notice that it doesn't behave like other heroes projectiles because no one else throws their projectiles. I will not take back my claim on symmetra tho, her primary is fucking broken. It either needs shorter range, less total damage or force the use to have to aim in order to hit. its fucking ridiculous when you are not a speedy or hitscan character and trying to deal with her running at you and jumping all over the place. He turrets are reason enough for her to be played, but having 6 turrets and her primary is a little much, assuming they arent going to do anything about her turrets, her primary needs to be dropped. Same thing happens with roadhogs hook. Sometimes I hook tracer but somehow she blinks out of the hook, nothing in the way, no pillars or shit like that and my hook breaks. I saved the highlight and checked it out after the match and then its revealed that I actually MISSED the hook. What kind of bullshit is that?

why not just flash your foot? that way you just right click your weapon at the enemy's foot and the recoil going upward will instantly kill your target?

When I clicked the video I thought you meant broken as in Overpowered, but I agree quite a bit with you, for things like roadhogs hook and mccrees flashbangs, that have affects, both stunning, and then both have unique styles of doing it, they depend on perfect tick and ping, making 'Favor the shooter' mean, 'favor the server'. Thus getting BS hooks and dud flash bangs.
Yeah it's very misleading that McCree's animation shows up the way it does when other characters are allowed to drag shot (ex Ana's Sleep dart). Good work now I know how to use McCree's stun for the next time I never play him
I actually think those weird map edges are part of the games poor map design. These things unnecessarily make things like this happen, as well as make wall climbing\wall running unnecessarily finiky.
humblecrowplayz yeah sadly most of the problem people can see as glitches are actually cos of that detail, and the stuff that has too much detail sort of always is gonna mess up with game mechanics easily, and sometimes this execive detail is not the same along the map so its even weirder; like with the stair hitbox example, and yeah its quite weird when people complain about too much realism and its quite funny, like when my brother was kill in a game while he was in animation, and he literaly was like "why this thing has to be so unesesarily realistic right now", we were laughing for like an hour after that XD, but in some cases its kind of a thing that someone needs to know before playing the game or learn and get use to it, like in some games projectiles passing straight through corners and stuff like that
lets not forget how you also always get stuck in random fucking edges random trees random objects while you are backing off and you just die in these. thats one thing i really hate about literally every map... random shitty edges that will get you fully stuck instead of getting pushed away from them or just put an invisible wall there so you still have the look while not being able to get stuck there...
Thanks for making the video.. like honestly.I played a lot of McCree recently to get to know him better and i f*ed up about 50% of my flashbangs because the Animation and the actual result are 2 completely different things, but so fast that you cant really tell during the match. Wake Arisato they are easily explained with 1. he throws it at the ground near you while you are deflecting 2. he throws it over the shield so he is quite literally throwing it very close to you, the range overall however is shite but idrc i only use it when i get jumped by reapers, tracers, genjis and throwing it over reins shield to co ordinate an earthshatter with a friendly rein

Watch some western films and keep checking if any of the films featuring cowboys are using a Flashbang. I can't see Blizzard's logic in this. Flashbang throwing should be Soldier 76's resort as he is a codguy. Most Call of Duty games has Flashbangs. Still thank god Soldier 76 can't Flashbang cause he's damage is fucking insane now. It would be acceptable if he gets damage nerf where he was at the beginning where Overwatch was playable. I seriously just fucking replace McCree's Flashbang with a Lasso. genji is still good especially now the tank meta has arrived, regardless pros still rekt enemies as genji which is why they decided they had to balance it...mccree doesnt fit anywhere in any meta and is unreliable... its not even considered a wild card
I actually noticed when this first started happening. It started after a patch, I don't remember if it was after the nerf of the damage drop-off or the wildfire damage nerf, im not sure. But before said patch, the stuns worked appropriately and legit, and then after the patch, the stuns started spazing.

Sure, it's a little confusing that the animation and the projectile behave so differently, but in the end it's just a matter of making sure your cursor is on target and THEN using the flashbang, and not just following the cosmetic animation. Even then there are some cases where the flashbang behaves weird when corners are involved, but that's a problem with general world design, not so much with McCree. (An easy fix would be, like suggested in the video, to have flashbangs radius go through walls, but that would have a lot of nasty implications, giving McCree the ability to stun through walls in a lot of different instances, which would be BS)
Things they need to rework with mcree -console aim assist. Mcree isn't a bad character but he's useless Just about any role he fills can be filled by some one else better. Duelist? Sure he's okay for squishies but so is mei and her ultimate isn't useless DPS? Pharah is harder to hit has a better ult more mobility, can throw people off maps, soldier has rockets mobility, and a sustain plus he's perfect for medium range which is where mcree is good. They need to lower his cooldowns and fix the flashbang, that's all. By the way; Combat roll = instant reload.. wich is the fastest in the game. But it's never actually possible to use it for a reload since the cooldown is 10 seconds wich is insanely long (Like widow's hook) for what it is.

Mcree grenades are a proyectile. They go to wherever you are aiming when you press the button with a little of parabole. It's easy, grenades has not free fics that go from your hands going freely bumping on the scenario like in halo or CoD, the go where you are aiming. If you are siming at point A pres the button and move the aim to point B, the grenade will reach point A. It's like hogs hook, it goes where you are aiming when you press the button and reaches a point of the animation.
A little advice to combat this. I know it's not the absolute answer to his flash bang, but more like a quick fix. Practice throwing your flashbangs from a short distance rather than up close to the enemy. I know it's gonna be hard because you might not be in the right scenario to pull it off but if you can, try sparing them when you have a good feeling it's not going to be a dud. If you get up close, make some distance from the enemy and then flash bang. It seems the only time the flashbang works is directly at the enemy from a few feet away. Try working around his weakness and prioritize his strength. Also for anyone who didn't know, you can actually flashbang a reinhardt while his shield is up. You have to throw it above his shield and it will arch over, stunning him for a second or two. This technique is useless when one on one, but I use the buddy system with McCree. Have your allies assist you in taking out enemies after you stun them. it also helps McCree survive when he's focused by the enemy. Most of these tips are common knowledge but I hope it helped someone.

they need to make it so that when the flash spawns in game it will spawn at his hand when the grenade disappears. you can see in the footage that the grenade disappears when the animation is done playing, I'm assuming that's where the other grenade should spawn in, that's where is place it.
Another part of the problem is because the animation is delayed. Kinda like when you use hog hooks and spins fast the hook won't follow the crosshairs. Just like the hook. The flash won't curve with your crosshair. Idk man.
You'd expect the animation to match the action, that is McCree should throw the flashbang at the direction when his flashbang throw animation ends, not where it starts. In clip 3 for example, you pressed it while facing the rocks, and by the time your animation was done, you were facing the McCree but since you pressed it when you were facing the rocks, it went off at rocks. It shouldn't be like that but it is apparently.
You know, the funny part is I could tell all of these would fail before the resolution because I play McCree a good bit. I knew the animation was way fucking wrong and had accounted for it myself. But with it being this far off of how the attack functions; it needs to be changed desperately.
in my history of playing mcree it took me a few games before i instictively started trying to aim his flashbang at my targets feet. though i didnt notice the animation timing and trajectory issues you mentioned.
With that third one the hand animation is wrong, but when you pressed E was where he threw it, so whilst in the middle of turning and pressing E it hit the place you were looking at when you first pressed E
he points that out in the video. the point of that part is that it looks like there is a delay but there isn't which is counter-intuitive. most people see an animation and assume its accurate which in this case it isn't.
The reason Pharah's explosive hits is because the actual model of the rocket is longer than the corner. But yeah, it took me like 5-10 hours understand how to always land McCree's flashbang

senario 3 was internet problem not in game problem, ur camera flick is too fast for ur internet to register ,I play on console and I had times when I had bad connection, I tried flicking a Hanzo ult and it had the same problem as this flashbang , so on PC u can flick camera instantly fast , it's pretty possible that ur connection can't keep up with it

Every single one of those you threw it before aiming where you wanted it to go. It went where you were aiming each time, you can tell because the flashbang icon turns yellow the instant you use it and you're looking at the ground or the side each time. You can't use it then turn and expect it to go somewhere else like a curve ball. Watch them all again at .25 speed (settings), you will see. The bots were a bit messed up, sure, but your in-game play was user-error.

Myself and many others are making an error BECAUSE the ability's animation implies that it will behave in one way when it actually behaves in another. Because of the slow animation, there appears to be a slight delay in McCree's flashbang (like Ana's sleep dart, only not as long), so we were throwing our flashbangs early to make up for it. Blizzard is no stranger to adding small delays to decrease accuracy (think Torbjorn and Mei's right click).
Now I can't speak for others, but I know logically that animations are not necessarily indicative of how an ability behaves. But because of the attention to detail that Blizzard gives Overwatch, and because of how fast it all happens, I was never able to piece together why the flashbang felt "off" until I watched these in slow motion. I'm sure there are many people like yourself who intrinsically felt out the ability's timing and used it without accounting for a false delay, but the success of this video implies that many, many other people were also going off of the same faulty visual clues and suffering because of it.
If the animation was any slower, it might be easier to detect and correct, but since it happens so fast, it's easy to keep making the same mistake again and again, even after someone shows you otherwise. Our brains are wired to respond to visual clues, especially in fast-paced, reflex-based scenarios such as first person shooters. And the visual clues from the animation indicate a slight delay. So we throw early. And then miss.

This guys gotta notice that it doesn't behave like other heroes projectiles because no one else throws their projectiles. When I clicked the video I thought you meant broken as in Overpowered, but I agree quite a bit with you, for things like roadhogs hook and mccrees flashbangs, that have affects, both stunning, and then both have unique styles of doing it, they depend on perfect tick and ping, making 'Favor the shooter' mean, 'favor the server'. Thus getting BS hooks and dud flash bangs.

I actually think those weird map edges are part of the games poor map design. These things unnecessarily make things like this happen, as well as make wall climbing\wall running unnecessarily finiky.

humblecrowplayz yeah sadly most of the problem people can see as glitches are actually cos of that detail, and the stuff that has too much detail sort of always is gonna mess up with game mechanics easily, and sometimes this execive detail is not the same along the map so its even weirder; like with the stair hitbox example, and yeah its quite weird when people complain about too much realism and its quite funny, like when my brother was kill in a game while he was in animation, and he literaly was like "why this thing has to be so unesesarily realistic right now", we were laughing for like an hour after that XD, but in some cases its kind of a thing that someone needs to know before playing the game or learn and get use to it, like in some games projectiles passing straight through corners and stuff like that
lets not forget how you also always get stuck in random fucking edges random trees random objects while you are backing off and you just die in these. thats one thing i really hate about literally every map... random shitty edges that will get you fully stuck instead of getting pushed away from them or just put an invisible wall there so you still have the look while not being able to get stuck there...

Thanks for making the video.. like honestly.I played a lot of McCree recently to get to know him better and i f*ed up about 50% of my flashbangs because the Animation and the actual result are 2 completely different things, but so fast that you cant really tell during the match. I hope knowing that flashbang is instant will actually make me a better player :P

2. he throws it over the shield
so he is quite literally throwing it very close to you, the range overall however is shite but idrc i only use it when i get jumped by reapers, tracers, genjis and throwing it over reins shield to co ordinate an earthshatter with a friendly rein

Watch some western films and keep checking if any of the films featuring cowboys are using a Flashbang. I can't see Blizzard's logic in this. Flashbang throwing should be Soldier 76's resort as he is a codguy. Most Call of Duty games has Flashbangs. Still thank god Soldier 76 can't Flashbang cause he's damage is fucking insane now. It would be acceptable if he gets damage nerf where he was at the beginning where Overwatch was playable. I seriously just fucking replace McCree's Flashbang with a Lasso. I actually noticed when this first started happening. It started after a patch, I don't remember if it was after the nerf of the damage drop-off or the wildfire damage nerf, im not sure. But before said patch, the stuns worked appropriately and legit, and then after the patch, the stuns started spazing.

Agreed. Sure, it's a little confusing that the animation and the projectile behave so differently, but in the end it's just a matter of making sure your cursor is on target and THEN using the flashbang, and not just following the cosmetic animation. Even then there are some cases where the flashbang behaves weird when corners are involved, but that's a problem with general world design, not so much with McCree.
(An easy fix would be, like suggested in the video, to have flashbangs radius go through walls, but that would have a lot of nasty implications, giving McCree the ability to stun through walls in a lot of different instances, which would be BS)

By the way; Combat roll = instant reload.. wich is the fastest in the game. But it's never actually possible to use it for a reload since the cooldown is 10 seconds wich is insanely long (Like widow's hook) for what it is.

Mcree grenades are a proyectile. They go to wherever you are aiming when you press the button with a little of parabole. It's easy, grenades has not free fics that go from your hands going freely bumping on the scenario like in halo or CoD, the go where you are aiming.
If you are siming at point A pres the button and move the aim to point B, the grenade will reach point A. It's like hogs hook, it goes where you are aiming when you press the button and reaches a point of the animation.

A little advice to combat this. I know it's not the absolute answer to his flash bang, but more like a quick fix. Practice throwing your flashbangs from a short distance rather than up close to the enemy. I know it's gonna be hard because you might not be in the right scenario to pull it off but if you can, try sparing them when you have a good feeling it's not going to be a dud. If you get up close, make some distance from the enemy and then flash bang. It seems the only time the flashbang works is directly at the enemy from a few feet away. Try working around his weakness and prioritize his strength. Also for anyone who didn't know, you can actually flashbang a reinhardt while his shield is up. You have to throw it above his shield and it will arch over, stunning him for a second or two. This technique is useless when one on one, but I use the buddy system with McCree. Have your allies assist you in taking out enemies after you stun them. it also helps McCree survive when he's focused by the enemy. Most of these tips are common knowledge but I hope it helped someone.

I hear salt. Meanwhile I think they could take a second or 2 off Widow's hook. It's like one of the longest cooldowns and makes her vulnerable, at least Ana can heal herself and hanzo can climb. And her ultimate gives you the slight advantage of knowing when an enemy turns a corner and where they are but if they get close or hid behind cover it's useless

they need to make it so that when the flash spawns in game it will spawn at his hand when the grenade disappears. you can see in the footage that the grenade disappears when the animation is done playing, I'm assuming that's where the other grenade should spawn in, that's where is place it.
Another part of the problem is because the animation is delayed. Kinda like when you use hog hooks and spins fast the hook won't follow the crosshairs. Just like the hook. The flash won't curve with your crosshair. Idk man.

You'd expect the animation to match the action, that is McCree should throw the flashbang at the direction when his flashbang throw animation ends, not where it starts. In clip 3 for example, you pressed it while facing the rocks, and by the time your animation was done, you were facing the McCree but since you pressed it when you were facing the rocks, it went off at rocks. It shouldn't be like that but it is apparently.
You know, the funny part is I could tell all of these would fail before the resolution because I play McCree a good bit. I knew the animation was way fucking wrong and had accounted for it myself. But with it being this far off of how the attack functions; it needs to be changed desperately.

in my history of playing mcree it took me a few games before i instictively started trying to aim his flashbang at my targets feet. though i didnt notice the animation timing and trajectory issues you mentioned.
With that third one the hand animation is wrong, but when you pressed E was where he threw it, so whilst in the middle of turning and pressing E it hit the place you were looking at when you first pressed E
he points that out in the video. the point of that part is that it looks like there is a delay but there isn't which is counter-intuitive. most people see an animation and assume its accurate which in this case it isn't.

senario 3 was internet problem not in game problem, ur camera flick is too fast for ur internet to register ,I play on console and I had times when I had bad connection, I tried flicking a Hanzo ult and it had the same problem as this flashbang , so on PC u can flick camera instantly fast , it's pretty possible that ur connection can't keep up with it
