      I turned 17 last month 😭😭
      On a side note, I do a lot of things that involve public speaking (I even entered an eloquence contest not that long ago and won 4th place) I'm happy to hear my speaking skills are good 😃🤲🏾🩷🩷

    I haven't bought new clothes in nearly two years, and I'm getting very embarrassed to always show up at school with the five same outfits or with clothes that obviously don't fit me anymore, and this video reminded me that I have to go buy new clothes soon.
    So I'll keep in mind what you said, seems like it will be helpful to me. Thanks for the video, have a nice week!

      I'm glad this video could help!
      I find it admirable that you didn't buy clothes for 2 years 👀👏🏾 I wish I could've done that because it's super sustainable
      but I moved around too much and lost a lot of clothes.
      Have fun shopping, make sure to balance your statement pieces and your basics (I'd recommend 10% statement pieces/fun clothes and 90% basic clothes like plain white shirts)🩷🩷

      @LouiseWears Thank you for watching!! Honestly, I think curating your own colour palette makes your personal style stand out (it also helps your friends when gift shopping for you because they just pick out things that are "your colour" 🧏🏾‍♀️)

    the advice not to buy second hand shoes online is so real

    • @hpf.yasmine

    Girl, u're so real w/ the shoes! I also live in europe (I'm not sure this is relevant tho) and sometimes I'm an 36 or an 39. It's HORRENDOUS. So even though most of my clothes are thrifted or hand-me-downs, if I want specific shoes that I can't find in my in-person-thrift-stores I just buy them new.

    • @hpf.yasmine
      @hpf.yasmine  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Idk if this only applies to Europe but it happens a lot here. I feel like the fact I'm a size 40 in shoes adds on to the fact I have a hard time finding shoes 😭
      It really feels like the only solution for good shoes is to buy them brand new 🤷🏾‍♀️

    I’m so glad my local thrift is mostly unaffected by the resellers making the prices go up. Of course there are some more expensive things in there, but that’s only because the original price is crazy high (I got a 200 dollar coat for 38 bucks)

    • @hpf.yasmine
      @hpf.yasmine  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Resellers have been making thrifting a little harder for me ngl 💀✋🏾 I mostly thrift in Paris, where a lot of shops owned by resellers are marked as thrift stores on Google maps.
      I'm happy your local thrift store hasn't really been affected (and I'm a little jealous ngl 😔). You'll be able to really enjoy shopping, and I love that for you 🩷🩷

    A great video! Just a note to the mending stuff - as someone who loves preloved stuff and tailoring them, I would really emphasise the last sentence: buy only if you’re sure you’re gonna mend it. For me it’s a hobby, but most people probably don’t have the time and energy… So just be mindful:).

    Girl Ily for that disclaimer, but at the same time we would not call ir fast fashion if the ones who bought from shein only bought a few items a year bc they don't want to walk around nakey, and/or wear their pieces for several years if the item doesn't fall apart before then
    Also, I had a friend who bought from shein. Said she didn't have the money to buy from other stores, meanwhile bought for hundreds of dollars from shein every 2 seasons. I told her there was an app where she could buy second hand for cheap. She replied she didn't have the time to dig through apps like that, meanwhile she would spend 8+ hours/day on tiktok.... like, what do you want me to do other than tell her that is the literal definition of hypocrisy?? Like, this is not hate, just the truth

    • @hpf.yasmine
      @hpf.yasmine  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I really understand your point of view, I've mostly seen people shops for basic clothing pieces on shein (white shirts, basic button downs, ect) and to this day a lot of their clothes are still standing (I'm surprised they are tbh).
      I really want to insist that I don't expect anyone to be gentle parenting people who don't want to change. If you gave your friend different options and she still didn't see the point in buying second-hand, then she doesn't seem like she's part of the people I mentioned that actually want to change her habits. It is sad that she doesn't want to take the time to actually look for higher quality in clothes, and I understand that you find it hypocritical, but since she's your friend and you know her full situation try to keep encouraging her to buy second hand.
      You obviously don't have to insist on convincing her (because that might be a waste of time), but given she's your friend, hold back from being rude because when I said "don't spread hate" I didn't mean "never call out your friends" it was really "don't be rude"
      You can call someone out on their actions and hold them accountable without being rude!
      I hope you understood what I was trying to say a little better 🫠

      @anaising1753 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@hpf.yasmine yes! I totally get what you meant, now. You meant that we should tell them with kindness, rather than being rude to them which would be counter productive. She is not my friend anymore tho, turns out our values were too different, and she was hypocritical in general. She wasn't a good friend overall, so I figured "why waste my time?", yk? Anyways, thank you for giving me your opinion on the situation :) I hope I'm not oversharing

    I usually prefer shopping in person to get a feel of what Im buying. My shoes wear out so fast because I walk and run a lot so I buy new. For Clothing though like shirts and sweaters, I try to maintain them in good condition. I've have some of my sweaters and sweatshirts that combine with any outfit, and I've been using them for 4 years now even with washing them every week (i passed my gowthspurt already i dont think im growing anymore 😭😭) I feel like with fast fashion everything is just lower quality :( When thrifting I think it is best to look for statement pieces or jackets or clothing that has a long wear life so that you can still use it for a long time

    • @hpf.yasmine
      @hpf.yasmine  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I totally agree that most clothes have dropped in quality and I think it's mainly because we're overusing resources instead of recycling so there aren't much left to make good clothes (I could be wrong about this though 💀✋🏾)
      Also looking for statement pieces at the thrift store is the ultimate move to be stylish with unique clothes because with fast fashion we're kinda losing individual style
      I hope your current sweaters and shirt will still stay as sturdy as possible 🩷🩷

      @seagreen917 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@hpf.yasmine Omg yess thank you. I agree as well. Fast fashion is just driving a lot of us to overconsume and to buy too many items. I think some items from Fast fashion can hold pretty well if you take care of it because I do have a few shirts from H&M but what I've noticed is that the cotton, and structure is thicker than the ones in store now. And a lot of companies do advertise as affordable but effects like pollution and filling the dumps with excess waste can have a negative impact. I think people should become more mindful of the impact we have when choosing what items to buy. Its kind of hard especially as a teenager because we're still exploring our sense of fashion but It's always a good idea to stick to timeless fashion.

      This is really THE message I want to send with my channel, I truly believe that the awkward phase we go through figuring out our personal style can be done while taking sustainability into account. It's definitely tricky with social media narrowing down the places people choose to look for fashion inspiration. It's starting to feel like stylish clothes and statement pieces should always be easy to find when really you need to take the time to look for these things. We're being fed "don't look too far shein has this" instead of taking the time to look for certain peices and to me that's part of the reason why there's a "everyone looks the same" phenomenon.
      I want to be able to lead by example a little more by thrifting and styling hand me downs !
      I hope to be a step closer to leading by example with every video
