Most of my winter wardrobe is wool so I've got a lot of experience washing it. Here's my advice: I believe in every washing machine you can manually set the water temperature and the spinning speed. I always pick 30°C and the lowest speed. If a piece of clothing has any metal elements that could catch on fabric, I put it in a mesh bag. I use delicate detergents in small amounts. Then I dry it on a rack (dear dryer users, I swear it doestn't bite, most of the world dries their clotes that way ;) ) I've never destroyed any wool piece and I have mohair, angora, cashmere and all of that high maitnance stuff in my wardrobe.
As a knitter I can confirm this totally! Also some washing machines have a wool setting that works with most organic or special garments. I do have a drying rack (yes I am from the part of the world where dryers are not common XD) but sometimes I even dry a wool sweater on a towel on the floor. It is also cool that you can form your garment in that state, like stretching the sweater longer or wider. Its called blocking in crafters terms :)
@@sosichanyes my machine has a wool setting though some things don’t do well - wouldn’t risk hand knitted alpaca or mohair. Don’t have a tumble dryer.everything line dried or dried on airers in the house.
I highly recommend “Laundry Love” by Patric Richardson aka the Laundry Evangelist. He basically says a lot of wool shrinkage is from friction. Ive been using his method of rolling up the wool item (then sticking them in a delicate bag, then taking safety(better yet diaper) pins and pinning the extra mesh bag to itself so create like a tight sausage casing for your wool item. This means the fabric isn’t rubbing against itself or other fabric. Then wash on warm with high speed (so it centrifuges to the side of the drum and isnt tumbling) and air dry. I’ve only had two items that shrank in last couple years. One was a fuzzy alpaca/mohair sweater (that I gently stretched back into place) the other was Everlane wool pants. I’m convinced buying wool items second hand (aka already washed) is the way to go, you know what you’re getting.
Hi, I just wanted to give some advice for caring for knitwear/ wool sweaters. I am a knitter and 99 percent of my winter closet is hand knit wool pieces. Wool does not require to be washed frequently, unless it is stained. You can put your sweater on a hanger and hang to air out on your balcony over night, and it is as good as new. In fact, wool is not intended to be washed weekly and I wash my woolen sweaters and cardigans about twice a year and do spot cleaning if necessary. This way, there is less pilling, felting, and with fresh air for a couple of hours, any sweater is as good as new. (I wear cotton tank tops or tshirts under them, so there is less sweat absorption from the wool itself). Hope this helps! :)
Lots of handwash items can definitely be washed in the machine. Pop them in a wash bag and use the delicates option but I think the most important aspect is to use a cold wash. I think it’s common in North America to always use warm/hot washes but honestly I wash everything in a cold wash and everything gets clean. Also super important to air dry those delicate pieces.
Totally agree about heavy earrings. True gold earrings are usually super light though as they make them hollow to save on the cost of the metals I’d rather pay more and have something I can wear and wear in comfort.
OFF THE SHOULDER TOPS!! I buy them yet I never wear them. I hate pulling the sleeves up and having to wear a strapless bra. No more off the shoulder tops for me!
The amount of heels I bought because people who wear them every day kept telling me "Oh you just need to find a pair that's comfortable for you!" Okay well that pair doesn't exist. My feet just don't work with heels. I just wish someone had told me YOU ARE ALLOWED TO GIVE UP ON HEELS 😂
@@rain0450 omg, I’m thinking about deleting my Amazon account since I don’t purchase anything from there anymore. I’m beginning to be more thoughtful about what I purchase
I agree with all of these, especially the shoes and the bags I'm all about comfort I only buy cross body bags with straps not chains as the chains get stuck in my hair, also a back pack is a good hands free alternative.
Re: specialty wash items, especially as someone who crochets/knits and keeps quite a bit of what I make, I have a whole separate laundry bin for my specialty wash items. While it definitely gets annoying when you don't have the space to handwash them, I still love em too much to not do it. Mohair is my friend no matter how much I don't want to wash the batch of thermals sitting in the bin.
Finally all the way through, but non crossbody bags are also a mistake purchase for me! I've been big on messenger bags since my teen years and just can't reasonably consider anything that can't even hold a change of clothes or a book and travel med kit at the same time. The cute little bags are adorable but they're so impractical for how I live and operate.
I did a lot of thrifting in my early 20s (I'm 30 now) and while I did find some wonderful items I still own, there were times I bought an item because I loved the colour but wasn't totally sold on the style, or I loved the style but wasn't totally sold on the colour, and it led to most of those items being decluttered. Multiple blouses with peter pan collars come to mind lol. I'm very intentional about what clothes I buy now, thrifted or new - I need to love them 100%.
I always wear crossbody bags but recently spent a whole day in the city with my Longchamp Le Pliage tote because it was waterproof and big, but it was incredibly annoying having to hold it on my shoulder just like you said
I love your videos. They encourage me to be more introspective. I’ve been fighting against the urge to spend a bunch of money recently. Just cancelled my orders and felt a huge weight off my chest.
oh youve touched on one of my favorite rant topics: Why Shoe Companies Can Go [REDACTED] A Walrus! the gist of it is that thinner heels are not actually inherently uncomfortable, and while a lot of it depends on the specific shoe shape and arch for each specific person (bc people's feet have a Lot of variation and designing for that is difficult), a LOT of it also is about how shoe companies just. deliberately make terrible, unbalanced heels the heel of a shoe is supposed! to be centered on the center of the heel of your foot! thats where the foot heel is most cushioned and is meant to take the body's weight. so any shoe with a heel that extends right down the back of it is a Bad Shoe bc it's making the entire bodyweight reverberate up through the uncushioned back-of-the-heel with every single step. any decent heel will have a shoe heel that curves forward and reaches the ground under the center of the foot's heel. but i have never been able to even find a searchable term for this type of heel, and no company ive ever found talks about heel construction wrt comfort (French/Louie/pompadour heels and comma heels are specific iterations of the type, but there are other shapes to make a good heel). even goddamn luxury shoe brands consistently make Objectively Terrible Heels! Loboutins in particular can lick my [REDACTED], anyone who wears those hideously expensive torture devices should be entitled to financial compensation
I’ve been extremely disappointed in Vionic for doing this straight down heel for most of their shoes. For a company who’s claim to fame is being orthotics they are cutting corners and choosing form over function.
For comfortable heels, look at dance shoes. The soles are delicate so they arent good for walking down streets, but if you have indoors events where you are expecting to walk and stand for hours, dance shoes are the best. At some manufacturers you can even customize colors and materials. I regularly spend hours in very comfortable high heeled tango shoes.
@@josiemaromi6981 I have Naturalizers in nude-for-me and black, and the nude-for-me ones have a chewed-up heel on one foot (darn you, elevator) that I am totally going to get fixed, because those heels are BIFL.
I struggle with my winter wardrobe because everything is either cheap synthetics or natural fibers that cost $$$ and I also hate handwashing. I’m still trying to figure out how to shop for winter without my stuff looking like shit from machine washing or going crazy from handwashing.
Honestly, same I only wash my sweaters once a season unless they are visibly soiled and you cannot spot washed it. But if you are wearing your natural fibres correctly and airing them out and hanging them properly, you should not need to be washing them regularly. What do you think our ancestors did before washers and driers especially here in Canada where were seven months out of the year winter they predominantly wore natural fibers, aired out their wolf sweaters. Spot wash them invented a big wash at the end of the season honestly, that is the beauty of natural fibres is they truly are lower maintenance. When you get good quality natural fibers, of course you can get low quality natural fibres where maybe my method won’t work as well for.
Ive washed all my wools, silks, and cashmere hand wash only items on gentle cycle with only 2 to 3 items at a time and drying flat and all have done well. I also get all my clothes thrifting and find beautiful garments that would probably go in a landfill if I didn't save them.
I lost 75 lbs in the last few months and hard to let go of too big sized items as they were always a fall back in the past 😮this time I passed them on to a family member who gained weight and she state what she didn’t like or kept would be donated as she encouraged me to keep only what fits! My goal in 2025 is weight maintenance and declutter anything no longer I enjoy or fits! This helps me to follow your channel as I get encouraged to love what I have and let go of what doesn’t fit or make me happy to wear❤ Thanks for your in depth advice and looking forward to what your sharing in 2025. I know good stuff ❤❤and love to you in New Year 🎉
For the earrings, my grandma uses the little round plasters to help keep the earrings in place and reduce the sagging/puling on the lobe, maybe that could help you!
6:03 For "hand wash only wool" you can wash it in the washing machine by stuffing it in the SMALLEST laundry mesh bag possible and washing on warm quick wash with delicate soap. 🐑🧺 -Patric Richardson Laundry Evangelist
@MoreCoffeePlease. It will shrink and felt if you don't put it in a tiny laundry mesh bag. That's why you have to stuff it in a small laundry mesh bag. The mesh bag prevents it from rubbing against itself. 🤷♀️
I loved his book so much that I created an index for it (that his editor absolutely should have put in!). Though I have become mistrustful of anyone else touching my laundry now
I can't buy jewelry period, im austistic and have realized i usually end up taking off said jewlry halfway through every event i wear it to and tossing it in my purse until the next purse clean out lol I have to get my wedding band tattooed because I just cannot wear an actual ring, it drives me nuts to feel the texture of something like that on my finger.
I told my long term boyfriend one time that we shouldn't buy a ring for me because there's no way I'll be able to wear it. I don't have autism but I do hate feeling items on my skin. Even clothes can be a problem sometimes let alone non-necessities!
@charmedvenuss I'm the opposite..I've been diagnosed with Anxiety and OCD and I have to leave the house wearing earrings and my wedding ring..if I have a shirt that allows I will wear 2 dainty necklaces my spouse gave me..if I leave the house without these I feel naked or like something is wrong..I will turn around and go back home to get them even if it means I'm late to work. It's bad lol
I also only buy crossbody bags! The only synthetic fabrics I buy are for fancy dresses that I'm not going to wash a lot anyway. I don't buy jewelry because I'm just not going to wear it
I’m 5’10 so I have the opposite problem with sizing lol. But I have decided I need to try to stop buying anything cropped. The trouble is, most things are cropped and boxy nowadays so it’s a challenge. If anyone knows any tall friendly top brands, let me know!
I have same height and I found that second hand men suits fit me great, Gucci jackets in size 44 usually sold in mint condition and cost me under 250$.
Love long tops and cardigans. I actually refuse to buy short ones now. On my list: new purses in general and the street flat shoes. Need to just get the normal sneakers in the future because better arch support
It is so interesting to see different approaches to shopping especially for clothes! I stopped buying purely artificial fibers entirely, because I dislike how they feel over time. I still get some mixed fiber items that are majority natural, but I mostly buy 100 % cotton, wool, cashmere, linen, bamboo, hemp, etc. I have gotten really good at taking care of natural fibres and making them last. I get what Iitems I need in colors I like instead of what is trendy right now and I get most of it used (online since our thrift stores don't usually carry my size). Goes to show that there is not one right way to consume that fits everybody. The only thing nobody should be doing is overconsume beyond their needs and means.
I have a large bust so crossbody bags are uncomfortable and don't look great. I basically only use large purses with straps deep enough to easily stay up on my shoulder. I won't buy anything with stripes or heavy earings and I surprisingly really love handwashing laundry.
4:21 I have had several jackets and tops with embellishments on the shoulders and it’s so painful when you wear a backpack, not to mention how often my hair gets tangled in it
I love crossbody bags, but they're also the reason I no longer wear necklaces. I feel like the two just don't agree with each other. After taking notes on what I've been decluttering in the past years, I got a pretty good idea of what would be mistakes for me. For example, anything natural wool (merino, cashmere, etc.)- my skin just doesn't agree with it, I break out in hives, so I rely on stuff like Uniqlo Heattech and Polartec AD to keep me warm and light. Anything with a ruched waist is a no-go. I love me some adjustable clothes but ruching due to elastics just... no, I don't wear it. It gets uncomfortable and I feel like it just disrupts the flow of the garments too much for my liking. Last but not least: Clothes with (heavy) visible branding. An inconspicuous logo in a hidden place or something tone-in-tone I'm not *too* bothered by, but ideally I'd have a wardrobe without any logos at all.
I had to giggle partway through this, since I have tried most of these and had to scrap them. I have cauliflower ears, so earrings are a no go. I wear one or two necklaces and THAT IS IT, no more lol. (even tho they are super cute) honestly having content like this is a great tool for those of us who have to say yes, that is cute but not for me!
Oh Shawna! I would love to have your problem with long tops! I am reasonably tall and have a really long body. I cannot buy anything that has an inbuilt waist because the waist ends either under my boobs or well above my waist. I live in New Zealand and we do not have the choices available in North America or Europe. In order to get tops long enough, I have to oversize but then that automatically makes an outfit more casual. For some reason, men get longline tops here, but that doesn't work because the chest is too tight. My everyday outfit is leggings and a t-shirt until I've walked my dog after which I shower and put on (currently, because it's Summer here) a t-shirt and shorts or skirt. I have one dress which I wear when I'm going out and I dress it up or down with shoes and I have a skirt and top outfit If I want to be a bit dressier. All my shoes are flat or have a slight block heal. I'm 55 and have dodgy ankles so I'm not risking another broken bone by wearing heels. For walking I wear Hokas and I have two pairs of Adidas Sambas which are my everyday shoes. I do have a pair of loafers, ballet flat type shoes and some shoes I've had since my 30s which I love to wear. The only thing I would like to add to my shoe collection is some knee high boots. The ones I have have been fixed so many times and even the shoe repair man told me they need replacing!
If you are getting good quality natural fibres. (Because of course we can get low quality of anything). The maintenance and the care for silks, cashmere and wool for example, this may sound really gross to a lot of people. But I only wash those items once a season or if they are visibly soiled, I try to spot wash a sweater if it has a visible soiled spot on it, but if you are properly caring for these garments airing them out after you wear them, I only wear them When I leave the house and I go out for several hours. I’m not wearing them like from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed every single day Monday to Friday. I have loungewear for that. I think that’s the misconception is (that would be totally overwhelming) to think that you could wear a sweater three times and then you have to hand wash it in the bathtub and hang it to dry. I probably would not buy natural fibres either if that was the case, but I find the beauty of natural fibres is the low maintenance care That is one of the big positives for me!! 💞
Doesn’t sound gross to me. I own socks that are merino wool and not meant to be washed every wear. You can wear them like 5 or 6 times and just hang them up to air out in between wears and they don’t stink. I did not believe that could be a thing with socks, but apparently it is with the right fabric. Who knew!
🤫🤐🤐 Oftentimes, you can wash "non machine washable" items on the *delicate* setting, using a gentle detergent + cold water. Hang or lay flat to dry, and they come out just fine with much less hassle and a lot of time saved. I hardly ever hand wash anything nowadays, and have never ruined an item. My washer is a front loader but I've used top loaders and never damaged anything. My mom gave me the task of doing laundry for all seven of us in our home when I was in middle school, and I've learned a lot of tricks over the years. I've come a long way since the day I accidentally turned my little brother's white jogging jacket pink. 😅😅
For distressed hems when new take them to a seamstress and have a line of close spaced stitching right where the distressing begins in a matching thread. If close to the hem it will be hidden. Super easy and fast and shouldn't cost much. Will keep the hem in place for years.
I’m similar with the distressed jeans, I have one pair and rarely wear them because the knee holes are annoying when I sit down lol. Also for me personally, tight tops. Usually it’s that ribbed material and I’ve bought a couple and every time I put one on, I immediately want to change tops because I just feel suffocated. So I avoid those clothing items now! 😋
I ended up getting those lobe miracle backings for when I wear heavy and large earrings because I love long earrings. They have been a game changer. I blame my love for Edie Sedgwick’s style on my long earring love lol.
Love videos like this. The things you are talking about are what I call dysfunctional clothing. Some for me are loafers and ballet flats. I have a wide foot with a narrow heal and can never keep these on my feet no matter what I add to the shoe. Same with those damn no show socks. I hate them. I have tried so many socks brands at high to low prices, and everything in-between. None of them work at all. No recommended hacks do either
I also spaced my ears in high school and now I cant wear anything dangly. Not gonna lie I do miss the spacers! But it does stop me from wanting to spend on new earrings 😊
I feel like my list is so similar to yours! Yeah basically anything that's hard to clean or annoying to wear, I avoid. Also things where I've owned something similar in the past and never wore it, like that's not gonna suddenly change haha
For me it is round toe shoes. I just love adding detail to a look with a sleek toe shape! So, even if they are comfortable and neutral; I rarely wear them.
I totally agree with all of your items! Especially the cross body bag!! 💯 My mom wanted to give me this really cute purse that she had gotten, but it was not a cross body and did not have the option of adding a strap :( Bummer! But like you, I also need to be hands free, and can’t just put the bag on one shoulder… it always slips and it bugs me. Team crossbody all the way! :) Also, I hate having pre-made holes in my clothes… Some people look great in them, but on me, I feel overly casual and unpolished. I prefer classic, straight cut, hemmed clothing.
This is silly, but I don't wear hoop or dangly earrings because they just tickle me. As soon as I have them in; they touch my neck and I start giggling. So, I wear stud earrings and that's it. Kinda gets boring after awhile 🙄. 🤭😂👍
Here is a word of advice, get a vacuum table and a good steam iron. I can make the cheapest made garment and make it look like retail quality after. I never hand wash anything and even garments that require hand washing or dry cleaning, I ignore the care label.
One of fashion TH-camrs shared that the reason why polyester/acrylic clothing looks like sh** is because it’s plastic. When we wash and wear plastic, the tiny bits of it glue together making up that ugly piling. Also, if I need to wash a sweater, I never do it in a washing machine. Lukewarm water, some plain shampoo and then dry them flat on a towel.
raw hems stress me tf out. i got 2 pairs of shorts w raw hems. i didnt know they had them. my shorts keep getting shorter as the hems deteriorate. i need to embroider them before the warm season so i have shorts left!!
I'm a huge fan of everything low cut. My sensory issues can't handle crewnecks for a longer time or sometimes at all. I'll be honest the items I probably regret buying the most is pants. I'm thoroughly a skirts and leggings person. Jeans and a white t-shirt is probably my nightmare outfit😅
I have a uniform for work- and the uniform supplier doesn’t have petite sizing!!!! 😢😢😢My jacket looks so huge on me, and I’ve had to alter basically everything I’ve been given to look halfway decent! Petite sizes need to be the included in standard omg!!!
Not sure if it's the exact name but I love the look of speckled t-shirt, it give the t-shirt a little interest, a little texture without being too present. LOVE the look. I bought one: I can't wear it. The specks are itchy. I'm actually so disappointed. (also: can't wear heels, 158cm tall so everything is too long, but those are a given for me. The speckled shirt caught me by surprise)
I have a big shoulder bag that I use all the time cause it fits my water bottle, a sweater, my lunch for work, grocery bag, just all the things. It's my work/ going out all day bag, all other times I use a small crossbody bag. Would never use a small shoulder bag.
Funny enough, I don’t usually buy crew neck items because I almost always end up finding them unflattering on me. I’m not always in plunging necklines or anything, but I almost always prefer there be a different sort of shape than the high crew
I only wear crossbody purses. My shoulders are so small that shoulder style purses won’t stay on. I like the brand “The Sash Bag” for travel. They are awesome. I’m short too and have to buy the “cropped” version of most brand’s pants for them to fit regular length for me. I’m not gonna hem either 😅. I’ll sew a button on, but that’s about it. Sadly, I can’t wear earrings period. Even 14K gold burns and itches when I put them in. I have a problem with metals. Can’t wear a watch either or most bracelets as I get a rash and if the jewelry has brass, copper, or nickel in it, I’m green wherever it touches. So much fun.
Chunky heel crossbody bag crew!!! I learned in my early 20s, maybe even sooner, that crossbody is the only way to go. As much as I like looking at the other cute bags, I can't stand to wear anything but a crossbody. Purse manufacturers need to make more crossbody options... and cuter ones, too, with a TOP opening and not a fold-over... that just makes them inconvenient and inconvenience is the bane of purses. Even my mom won't carry anything besides a crossbody anymore!
I haven’t used a “bag/purse” for over twenty years, I hang a rucksack off the back of my wheelchair - it doesn’t look cute, but I’m not leaving home without a puncture repair kit, tools and pump, or I might not make it home! I have had the same earrings for many years, I’ve changed them once because I lost one in the shower in hospital when I broke my hip and I tried to buy the same ones, but they don’t make them anymore. I hate wearing anything itchy, plasticky, or tight. If I could, I’d live in the softest, brushed, cosy, warm, pyjamas, so in real life, I try to find acceptable clothes close to this, but I have a few pretty dresses for summer (I couldn’t wear them last year because I was told I had to keep in a permanent catheter and I couldn’t hide the bag, but I’d had enough of it and went back to intermittent ones, and now I can wear them again). Most of the year I wear leather ballet practice shoes as my feet curl up (I’m supposed to wear orthotics and heavy lace up shoes/boots - but as an adult, I have choice, so that’s not very often!)
I often regret graphic anything and end up just wearing them as my "bum around" clothes even if I might've bought it for a big price like a team merch or concert so I just don't buy that anymore. I also try to stay away from big logos I've also regretted that, the biggest logo I can go for is the small Lululemon tag on the calf or Patagonia chest pocket label.
I gave up buying clothes to alter them later. I'm 5foot and refuse to buy long clothes that drag on the floor. It does get upsetting sometimes though. But cost of alterations are $25+ overhere.
I appreciate the suggestion but don't own the top anymore. The weight of the pearls and how the top felt on was uncomfortable so I decluttered it a few years ago.
Exactly right!! Too much detergent + cold water = scratchy fabric!! 😬 Warm water is necessary to activate the detergent and whisk away the body oil! 🔥💧
@@georgerubio6317 Aww thank you so much!! 🫂 Patric Richardson Laundry Evangelist deserves all the credit!! I learned it all from his book and YT channel! 🧼🙌
I am average height, but I have a long torso. There was a time when all I could found were average or short shirts. It was terrible. I was so glad when long shirts were around again. I hate having my belly stick out so I will sometimes buy larger sizes to be sure the shirt is long enough. My mother was petite and always marveled over me. One of my daughters is also long waisted and average height and people are always surprised when she mentions her height. I guess we give the impression of being taller than we are. I’m also not a huge fan of cross body and generally will buy convertible purses. I have a large bust and I think crossbody looks weird on me, but I use them when traveling for security.
Shirts that are too long are SO ANNOYING. Reminds me of grade school when everyone was wearing three tank tops layered under a T-shirt, covering all the way down to the tops of their thighs. Organizing them when you stand up after sitting down for a while.. what a terrible time for fashion.
I've stopped buying tops and dresses where I can't wear a bra without the straps showing, and I don't like how I look or feel without some support. I also stopped buying sheer fabric things that have to be layered because I'm just not realistically going to do that. I do like long shirts, tunics and sweater dresses though, I think liking short or long tops might have to do with body type.
I don't like wearing skirts/dresses, high heels, heavy makeup, stuff that demands special underwear/strapless bra, spaghetti straps where you see my bra, heavy earrings, chunky rings, a watch (I'll be too focused on the time), flip flops without a heel strap (it's really bad for your feet to have to hold on to your shoe with your toes). And I have to be wary of the leg length on pants since I'm tall. I also don't buy any sweaters with a 1-10% wool. That's a trick from sellers to make you think it's better quality, but it will lose its shape after 3 washes. I go for mostly cotton, linen(nice in summer), or real wool and just don't buy much and wait for sale season. Polyester makes me sweat and smelly, if I sweat in natural materials, I don't stink😂 I do love my cashmere sweaters!
Won't buy anything I have to hand-wash, just don't have the time. Love dangle earrings but I also watch the weight so they don't stretch my lobes over time. I used to love purses but I've gotten where I only have a small wallet, keys, and phone. So I might use a clutch.
Heavy earrings, off the shoulder tops, plastic feeling fabrics and heels are a no for me. I go for wedges instead. I also hate tops in which you can't fully lift up your arm. Tops need to be stretchy. Waistbands too if possible. I'm all for comfort these days, but it's comfort in cute skirts and dresses, not in loose sweats.
I am 55 and heel are a no, my balance have changed since my mid 30, I use to run in the things and now I can't walk in them. also I only buy shoes that I am comfortable in. cross body bag all the way here too. Now the more sequin/pearl/embellishment the more I love them that is 30% of my tops, I have the handwash set up on my machine, I usually wait until I have 4 or 5 of them to wash they all go in different wash bags and they go on cold short cycle. I probably own 30 of them by now, I only buy the high quality ones so no itchy scratchy going on. I know it is a lots of clothes but some of them are 15 years old and I still loves them also I kept stuff from my twenty(too small) in boxes and now my 19 years old wear some of them. I won't buy dry cleaning unless it can be steamed
For me, anything i cannot wear my daily bra with. I don't fool around with strapless bras anymore and I really can't go without - so any clothing item must work with my regular bra.
I feel guilty because I have gotten most of my jewelry as gifts over the years but I only wear 2 pairs of earrings, 1 necklace, and my wedding ring and I never switch anything out. Sometimes I force myself to just so my other jewelry can see the light of day, but everything else in my jewelry box is honestly stuff I would feel relieved if it disappeared. But I’m keeping it forever since the people who gave it to me are close to me and they would be sad if I didn’t, and it doesn’t take up much space
High End Designer Stilettos. I own several pairs from when I was in my late 20’s. Then I got fat, old, and disabled. So I can’t safely wear them anymore. BIG MISTAKE.
Hi Shawna, I have been noticing that for some of your last few videos I (I am German, my phone is set to German) do not get shown the original English titel of your videos but the title translate into German. The translation are clearly automatically done, as they are done quite poorly, sometimes grammatically incorrect and never catchy. I was just wondering is that is something you are doing, if youtube is doing it without your knowledge or if maybe it's my phone?
I live in Canada and have my TH-cam language settings as English (UK) but noticed some French TH-camrs I used to watch had their titles automatically translated. I think it's a TH-cam thing, not selected by the creators, maybe to make videos more clickable or something.
I love beading I love beaded items 😩 but I won’t buy anything heavy beading I can’t easily reinforce because I know for a fact I’m gonna be the one to ruin it
I don't buy pre distressed clothes either. It's feels like I'm being pranked. Clothing will get distressed over time and I'm feeling like too old to look like i got in a domestic or playground fight/scuffle. 😂 Maybe if my whole look is punk style, sure, but thoughtless distressed clothes with an otherwise normie outfit looks silly on me.
One think i'll always regret buying is two silk dresses ! It's super hard to clean because it's so delicate, and a dress, contrary to a top, is getting frayed much more easily when you sit 😂 honestly, the 700usd the less well spent of my life (i had a very well paid job for the first time of my life, i splurged, i regretted it)

I have a couple of wool t-shirts. I don't even wash them on gentle, just cold water. Then I air dry them. They just get softer and softer.
@ if you roll it up tightly it will stay dirty. Friction and ALSO changes in temperature are the problem.
Edit: this goes for any natural animal fiber, and not for polyester ofc
Lots of handwash items can definitely be washed in the machine. Pop them in a wash bag and use the delicates option but I think the most important aspect is to use a cold wash. I think it’s common in North America to always use warm/hot washes but honestly I wash everything in a cold wash and everything gets clean. Also super important to air dry those delicate pieces.
Totally agree about heavy earrings. True gold earrings are usually super light though as they make them hollow to save on the cost of the metals
I’d rather pay more and have something I can wear and wear in comfort.
Also no worries of the polish wearing of or allergy or staining of skin due to oxidisation of polish or metal..
Normally people whose feet don’t go with most heels like chunky ones. Like the sandal heels. But yes! It is ok to give up on heels, I’m a flats girl 😂
I don't think you have given up on anything!! You are being your authentic self!! It's more beautiful than any pair of heels 😊
I’m a platform lady myself- I hate heels! There’s no benefits for me tbh, and I have wide toes so squishy shoes are a no-no.
I’m 5 feet tall so clothes being too long on me is the literal story of my life 😭
i'm always like "i can hem that" and then i never do 😭 good thing rolled/cuffed jeans are in style
I'm smol too! I feel ya😅
i just cut them or else i cant even tuck my shirt on my jeans
I am 5 10 and I feel exactly the same 😂 especially with cardigans and jackets
Me too! I joined a sewing group to help me amend pants.
My husband and I are ready to do a No Buy 2025. I deleted the Amazon app. Your channel has inspired me to be a more intentional shopper.
Just cancelled my orders and felt a huge weight off my chest.
oh youve touched on one of my favorite rant topics: Why Shoe Companies Can Go [REDACTED] A Walrus! the gist of it is that thinner heels are not actually inherently uncomfortable, and while a lot of it depends on the specific shoe shape and arch for each specific person (bc people's feet have a Lot of variation and designing for that is difficult), a LOT of it also is about how shoe companies just. deliberately make terrible, unbalanced heels
the heel of a shoe is supposed! to be centered on the center of the heel of your foot! thats where the foot heel is most cushioned and is meant to take the body's weight. so any shoe with a heel that extends right down the back of it is a Bad Shoe bc it's making the entire bodyweight reverberate up through the uncushioned back-of-the-heel with every single step. any decent heel will have a shoe heel that curves forward and reaches the ground under the center of the foot's heel.
but i have never been able to even find a searchable term for this type of heel, and no company ive ever found talks about heel construction wrt comfort (French/Louie/pompadour heels and comma heels are specific iterations of the type, but there are other shapes to make a good heel). even goddamn luxury shoe brands consistently make Objectively Terrible Heels!
Preach!!! Not sure if it helps but the brand "Naturalizer" usually has 50% of their heel stock with that type of fit 👠
I handwash my knits by hand, then tumble them in machine and it’s hanging as the rest of my clothes and gets dry very quick.
I wear a shirt underneath my wools and only wash once at the end of the season. Unless I spill something and then I have to wash it.
"each time that acrylic yarn is washed in a standard in-home washing machine, approximately 730,000 microplastics are released into the water"

I know good stuff ❤❤and love to you in New Year 🎉
Congratulations on the weight loss! ❤️
I washed a wool sweater on warm once and it shrank so much it resembled doll clothing. 😭😹
@MoreCoffeePlease. It will shrink and felt if you don't put it in a tiny laundry mesh bag. That's why you have to stuff it in a small laundry mesh bag. The mesh bag prevents it from rubbing against itself. 🤷♀️
@@josiemaromi6981 I definitely didn’t do that step. Thanks for the feedback, I didn’t realize it would help against shrinking. 🫶🏻
I loved his book so much that I created an index for it (that his editor absolutely should have put in!). Though I have become mistrustful of anyone else touching my laundry now
@@ricoco450 I totally agree Laundry Love should have had an index!! 📖🧺
I can wear thin Bands without stones. If I get married, I want an old fashioned European Style Ring without Stones or Decoration.
I have to say, I love your eyeshadow. Very pretty. Great vid, I've been loving these December videos!
A have h cups and am also anti crossbody. I have one but I just wear it over the shoulder.
Thanks so much for sharing Brigitte! I appreciate that your wants, needs, and dislikes are different from my own.
Who knew!
🤫🤐🤐
Oftentimes, you can wash "non machine washable" items on the *delicate* setting, using a gentle detergent + cold water.
I enjoy your videos for the content and your voice. I learn and sleep peacefully. It's a good time all around
I ended up getting those lobe miracle backings for when I wear heavy and large earrings because I love long earrings. They have been a game changer. I blame my love for Edie Sedgwick’s style on my long earring love lol.
“Your ankle length is my regular length”, I had to put down my crochet knitting there 😂 I’m so with you on that one.
Is "spacing" Canadian for stretching?
Yes :)
I feel like my list is so similar to yours! Yeah basically anything that's hard to clean or annoying to wear, I avoid. Also things where I've owned something similar in the past and never wore it, like that's not gonna suddenly change haha
Your hair looks so great here! I'm gonna copy you...any styling tips?
For me it is round toe shoes. I just love adding detail to a look with a sleek toe shape! So, even if they are comfortable and neutral; I rarely wear them.
I totally agree with all of your items!
Especially the cross body bag!! 💯
My mom wanted to give me this really cute purse that she had gotten, but it was not a cross body and did not have the option of adding a strap :( Bummer!
But like you, I also need to be hands free, and can’t just put the bag on one shoulder… it always slips and it bugs me.
Team crossbody all the way! :)
Also, I hate having pre-made holes in my clothes… Some people look great in them, but on me, I feel overly casual and unpolished.
I prefer classic, straight cut, hemmed clothing.
I'm not buying pants without pockets anymore. I need pockets.
As an older, short person, if you don't hem your pants they will get distressed hems on their own timeline 😂
Omg I can’t wear anything other than crossbody!! Maybe a backpack for the movies to sneak in snacks that’s it!
You could turn the top inside out and place in a small was bag to prevent the pearls moving around and rubbing against each other
I appreciate the suggestion but don't own the top anymore. The weight of the pearls and how the top felt on was uncomfortable so I decluttered it a few years ago.
I turn all tops inside out before washing sometimes in a laundry bag as well.
If your clothes are becoming less soft the more you wash them, you might be using too much laundry detergent. Very little is actually needed.
Exactly right!! Too much detergent + cold water = scratchy fabric!! 😬 Warm water is necessary to activate the detergent and whisk away the body oil! 🔥💧

175 dollars for any clothing is diabolical. Thrifting has ruined me I literally do not want anything over 10 dollars.
Polyester makes me sweat and smelly, if I sweat in natural materials, I don't stink😂
I do love my cashmere sweaters!
I always wonder what’s in the B&BW bag in the background
I think YT automatically implemented new translation settings 🤔 Shawna might have to disable it in her settings
I did not notice any subtitles, although my YT is in German as well. 🤔🤔 LG aus Österreich!
I love beading I love beaded items 😩 but I won’t buy anything heavy beading I can’t easily reinforce because I know for a fact I’m gonna be the one to ruin it
Synthetic fiber plus cotton is always a mistake, they pill. I think 60% of fast fashion is.made this way.
It's super hard to clean because it's so delicate, and a dress, contrary to a top, is getting frayed much more easily when you sit 😂 honestly, the 700usd the less well spent of my life (i had a very well paid job for the first time of my life, i splurged, i regretted it)
Thanks for the forecast! I need some advice: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
